This remind me of harmony we used to have back then. Culture teaches more and it is good for generation after generation to see and look back for the past that shape the future. Great documentary!
Thank you for the film! i am from the luo tribe, i had shivers just watching the film, it speaks volumes to me, so thank you! i almost she a tear when the man was singing! beautiful!
The Nuer tribesmen attacked Dinka cattle herders in Tonj and seized about 5,000 animals. They killed 139 people and wounded 54. Nobody knows how many attackers were killed. But it may be many as a lot of people came to fight.
The people in this film are from the village of Lara, in the Gaajak Jikany section of the Nuer lands along the Baro River in Southwestern Ethiopia. The film makers lived with them during the dry season of 1968. This film could not have been made without their generous hospitality.
You can substitute in "the Dinkas" here and no one would doubt you! We are the same people. And the sound of the cattle, it is so comforting, it brings me back to my time ten years ago when I was a boy herding the cattle.
Precious film of a wonderful world. The Nuer are Nyath (Nyathi), around Lake Victoria, colonisers turned the word into Nyanza. Nyath or Nyathi is 'child of''. The Nyaath, word preserved in Alego Location by name of area called NYAADHI.
Note: The Nuer (Nyaadhi), Dinka, Anyuak, Achol, Alur, Luguara,Padhola, Ik (Iteso) etc and Alego (the Luo around Lake Victoria) are of the same root called LUO. Luo is their nucleus just as the KELT (CELT) are made up of the Scot,Irish,Welsh and the Breton.

The Nuer are LUO in the same way as the Scot, Irish, Welsh and Breton are Kelt (Celt).
