IF any of you bothered actually watching the show, you'd realize Jobs was referring to the technology Apple imitated from XEROX PARC. It's well documented. The "theft" of the PARC ideas shows how Apple had the vision and the brilliance to lead the PC industry where XEROX was content sitting on patents and watching.
Also "stealing" the concept of good type faces for use on a computer was SJ's favorite example of stealing. It's taking past innovations to enhance new concepts. My favorite example now is the iPhone AppStore. A lot of components has been attempted before with other efforts. But none comes together the same way as iPhone's AppStore. It's no wonder critics only point to the parts and not see the sum.
The person who really deserves the credit for the GUI and the Mouse is Douglas Engelbart not Xerox since he was the individual who invented them back in the 1960's.
Xerox improved the GUI though just as Apple Computer did later on with its LISA and Macintosh.
not likely, microsoft might have a 90% hold on the market, but fact is they're a shrinking company. On the other hand, Apple has been a consistently growing company since '97
Where did you get those statistics, 1996? This year Apple owns between 10 and 15% of the market (depending on your source from pro-Apple, to pro-MS). It's pretty safe to say they have at least 12% of the market. Also, market share does not prove how good a company they are, who's better Aston Martin or Fiat? Now, guess who has the bigger market share :-).
Which means Windows users were the beleaguered backs upon which Bill Gates' superior BUSINESS model triumphed in flogging inferior TECHNOLOGY. Congrats! Give yourself a pat on the back... hopefully it won't sting those welts.
And major PS: I don't think that neither Steve Jobs nor his customers care about your take on the situation. Both are very VERY happy, thanks.
"The good poet welds his theft into a whole of feeling which is unique, utterly different from that from which it was torn; the bad poet throws it into something which has no cohesion."
TS Eliot wrote something similar which has been misattributed to Picasso:
"Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different."
This is an bite stolen from "Triumph of the Nerds" produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting and Channel 4 in 1995-96...it was broadcast on PBS. Steve was not at Apple. Hadn't been for a long time. He was running his own company, Next...soon he would return to Apple, grow Pixar, Next?
judging from the long hair it looks like this vid may have been taken before he left apple. maybe i donno. anybody have and ideas on stolen ideas except front row?
Google Picasa or Pablo Picasso? Lol. Sounds like he said the former.. hehe. Both ways, you shouldn't talk to software that's not built for speech input.. lol

The previous takedown of this video clip is a good indication of where youtube will probably end up, simply a meaningless cog in the corporate wheel where people can talk about planting daisies and showing little dog tricks. It was a nice idea while it lasted

An entrepreneurial genius, a wise marketer.
Who played at influencing people, and say what they needed or not.
I'm not your fan as a person, but as a professional.

Actually, MS have a 92% market share, and Apple has only grown 2% over the course of the last 10 years.
At this rate, it would take Apple another 200+ years to catch up to Microsoft.
Good lucl with that. *yawn*

Microsoft has an 89% market share. look it up.

Seems to me that American car makers were the highest percent in the 50s and 60s, where as Japanese car makers were in the single digits.
So much for 200 years for someone to catch up.
btw. It's spelled luck

To put it crudely ,in personal computer and technology terms Bill Gates would be an immature bad poet while Steve Jobs would be a mature good poet.
Gaur1983 4 years ago
another way to put that is;
bill gates, rich. steve jobs, poor.
bill gates, winner. steve jobs, loser.
bill gates, retired. steve jobs, mid-life crisis.
VivekRajcoomar 3 years ago
Steve jobs is worth billions.
Id hardly call that "poor"
masterd151 3 years ago 2
Too right man! Please God, I get a mid-life crisis that good. Hell, I wish it on all of you! Disney, Pixar, Apple, the works.

Apple fans must listen to this, and stop bashing microsoft or any other...stealing ideas is officially endorsed by steve jobs!!

Microsoft copy, which makes them bad
to steal an idea, you make it your own, you make it better than the original so it becomes yours. apple steals.
that is the secret to creativity
