See when he first done the first step of closing his both hands crossed and told everybody to do the same, he then took them apart in a way to either itch or tell someone to correct or anything else (the camera did not show), then he would do the same (as obvious to those who don't pay much close attention) but he will close one of the hands with the other not crossed, that would give the audience that he made the same first step where in fact he did not! then he just rotated his hands normally!

At 0:20 when they show the audience. He must've released his grip to point to the thumbs while he was off camera and then switch to the other position. In fact, after the video loads completely, stop it, click around 0:14 and again at 0:21. You'll see just how much more his right arm needs to twist now. This is what annoys me about Copperfield. The shows are one thing, but the camera help for his videos is just lame.

you can see his right pinky as the upper finger and then after the camera goes back to him you can see that his left pinky wus the upper finger

He definitely rotated his left arm when the camera was directed to the audience. Watch the angle of his left elbow at 0.18sec and 0.22sec. Clearly there is a difference because at 0.18sec the angle is due to your left arm rotated clockwise to get to the initial position and the one at 0.22sec is when you rotated your left arm anti clockwise so that when you rotate both hands clockwise, the left arm is back at its neutral position.
