  • R.I.P Earphone Users

  • Ouch. Hopefully you learned a few lessons that night. Sucks about your 5D.

  • That is so fucking awful.

  • modiar raimu su!

  • Ya me jodería gastarme un pastizal en esta cámara y que luego me la jodiera una puta lucecita... menuda mierda la 5D...

  • What an idiot !!!

  • I laughed so hard watching this. You kid are a true idiot

  • Please can somebody tell me is there any way to fix this at all. this happened with my phone and i'm really worried... plz :(

  • @MrCrazyHobbies There is a way to fix it.. replace the sensor.

  • @MrCrazyHobbies broken sensor, ur fucked

  • I had the same thing happen to me filming the sun with a fisheye lens on. I fixed it by going into my cameras debugging menu and calibrating the lens.

  • That's why they record behind the talent...not in.

  • пизда камере

  • OMG, LASER damages CMOS device and our wallet

  • Thanks for warning us indeed. Noone told me a laser can damage the censor.

So like, new censor or dead camera?

  • Sorry about the sensor, but thanks for warning the rest of us.

  • now you camera can see DJ

  • experience for all

  • i would have cried

  • it seems more like a failure of the low/high pass filters on the sensor. Note how there is only one line affected on the sensor despite the fact that the beam goes back to moving at apparently the same initial speed and no other gets affected. If in warranty, I do not see why Canon would not fix it. It should not happen at all.

  • seconded rogerpenna, this laser must've been powerful to burn a line of pixels.

oh wait no, you just shouldn't be on a retarded place like this first.

  • thats what you get for enjoying shit music dumbass

  • Why the hell do they even have lasers there?

  • imagine your self in a pitch Black room(letting Massive amounts of light in your Eye/sensor)....then in a fraction of a sec it turns to brightest spectum of light ..and you can't close your eyes(camera sensors can't really blink/shut off ..now can they) .....only makes sense it would cause damage(i would think they had Fail safes but i guess not )~~~~Sorry for your loss of your camara

  • Sorry for your loss. RIP row of pixels.

  • if it does that to a camera sensor, it must be very healthy for your retina!

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • aww poor 5D :(

  • LMAO @ CMOS sensor users. HA HA AHAH AHAHH...YOU'RE ALL FAGS!

    Foveon sensors FTW!

  • @neocon70 lol... go play video games kid

  • @neocon70 LMAO at your lack of knowledge. Foveon is a type of CMOS sensor. Technically therefore, you are are a CMOS sensor user, subsequently laughing at yourself. TA DA ;)

  • I can't watch it, it's like a horror movie, or a bad dream...

  • You shouldn't be worrying about the camera, you should be worrying about your eyes. Anything that can damage a camera sensor can damage human eyes as well.

  • @Mxsmanic maybe if you have glasses with big ass lenses on.

  • @kamikazeOS One of the characteristics of a laser is the collimation of the beam, ensuring that light rays in the beam remain nearly parallel. This makes the laser just as intense at a distance as it is close up. When the parallel rays enter the eye, they are focused to a point on the retina, which is then burned. This can happen at ten feet or 1000 feet.

  • @Mxsmanic ok, makes sense...but if it's that dangerous why are laser shows allowed? ...thank god I saw these videos, didn't know this can happen to cameras.

  • @kamikazeOS In developed countries, there are usually strict regulations on how laser light shows may be conducted. There are limits on the type and power of lasers used, the way they are moved, the directions in which the beams can point, the motions they can make, and so on. If the beams are aimed to the sky, there may even be aviation restrictions on them. But some less developed countries allow anything, and that's when it gets dangerous. I prefer to avoid laser light shows entirely.

  • The laser killed the CMOS sensor. The tell you the same thing to not shoot into the sun. You will burn the sensor. You should have closed down the aperture to f19 or f22.

  • @GenVirtu I agree. F22 would look awesome at night.

  • I heard just flying in a plane will give you some dead pixels too. The gamma rays that high up do it.

  • @phototristan I've been flying many times with my 550D, no issues thus far.

  • Thats what you get for being at a fuckin faggest

  • That is what happens when you buy a Canon LMAO!

  • @l337virus

Canons are good SLRs you n00b

  • Comment removed

  • @l337virus

How did I spell Canon wrong. Canon are good SLR doesn't sound right hence the pluralization you "dumb fuck"

Canon EOS SLRs usually great good reviews and the 550D is one of the best SLRs

  • @mewrox99 so what you are trying to say? That a 550D is better than a 5D Mark II? From what i know a 550D aka T2i has a crop sensor whereas, the Mark II is a full frame. My whole rant was just a joke and a clear reminder that high power lasers and CMOS sensors don't get along well.

  • @l337virus

Yeah but the things lasers and cameras isn't a Canon specific thing. Any DSLR will get damaged from a laser

  • I'm sad :(

  • ouch man!! did you can repair it??

  • Thanks for the warning. One more thing to worry about. Thank goodness I'm mainly a nature photographer.

  • I'm wondering what kind of damage those laser shows can do to the human eye :/

  • Could you let the sensor get repaired by warranty?

  • whos playing?

  • wow , I have the same camera and wouldn't have know about this . Crazy . No techno videos for my camera . Damn that sucks

  • Bad for your eyes as well.

  • LAME

  • That happened to my other camera aswell but mine got full of purple dots!

  • that sucks the big one. thanks for the heads up though!!!

  • Ouch, those lasers can be more than 100 mW when focused.

  • People who go to these "parties" deseve to be deaf, and as the lightning crew agrees, blind too!

  • For those doubting it was the laser that caused this, you are wrong... its well known using live view near lasers damages/can damage the sensor.

  • Think of what that can do to your retinas too. But at least those can heal over time if the injury isn't too bad. I once got zinged by a "cat toy" laser pointer because somebody was being stupid and had a migraine that evening and after image in my eye for a day and a half until it healed up. I'm sure even that would have been plenty to mess up a CCD or CMOS. Lasers aren't a joke in that regard.

  • Your camera has been chosen by the mighty trance god; now you must WEAR THE MARK!

  • @lagator2

    funny shit

  • I highly doubt that was done by the laser. More likely just a coincidental glitch. It wouldn't take out a horizontal line like that.

Not to mention, how many times have people shot over and over and over and over and over with the sun shining directly into the lens?

I shoot events all the time. Unless the light show coordinator is an idiot, those lasers are not powerful enough to damage eyes, so they certainly won't damage your CMOS.

  • @0tystyx0 In the likely event that one should take a picture with the sun in the shot, the sensor is not damaged because it is designed with a shot like that in mind, or in other words, most modern DSLRs have UV filters in front of the sensors.

Lasers on the other hand, are not UV rays so they are not filtered, and truthfully, I do not know the exact science of it, but I know from personal experience that lasers can and do damage the increasingly sensitive sensors in digital cameras.

  • Comment removed

  • I think a combination of laser and strobe. Note how it started on same section of screen as strobe flashes? If that laser had done it alone, then it would have caused further damage most likely through the sequence in other parts. I've had issues with lasers/strobes vs cmos in the past a few times too >_< They seem to be more sensitive to light damage than our eyes, due to the fact their 'eyes' are much larger usually.

  • that was pretty awesome.

    poor camera.

  • I can't believe they would aim a laser at the audience from the front like that. That's a massive lawsuit waiting to happen. If you're ever at a show like that you need to tell the stage crew that they are blinding people.

  • gawd. are you guys DSLR newbs?

a camera sensor is flowing with electric current hence ISO cause of the intensity of the laser and electric current going through the ISO

it is highly possible to fry your circuits!

it doesnt necersarily have to get hit in a straight line!

the laser sweeps through the whole sensor! nd that one circuit runs horizontal and vertical but in this situation the horizontal circuit the worst possible thing to happen, happened!

learn your cameras! or stay with ur low end!

  • I don't get it. I can't see the problem here. Can anyone explains it to me...? :(

  • daaaaaamn, crazy - thanks for posting that!

  • fuuuuuuuug. that was painful yet also awesome :\ sorry

  • well that's a bloody expensive oversight :/

  • ouch

  • Thats mad, has the camera worked ok since? What way do pics come out?

  • this kill eyes too. laser is too low. bad organisation. sorry for your great canon.

  • Fuck of laser

  • =(

  • ouch !!!!! , but that was a serious killer light !!

  • you shooting wide open. close that thing bro. you cant even see the lazers

  • no way!!! why did that happen?

  • OUCH!

  • interesting..... 0:06

  • Don`t blame Canon. Blame this "music" :)

  • The line on the sensor is horizontal because the laser "blew out" something in one row of the sensor. That row no longer functions properly. You can see a similar effect when a camera or camcorder sensor is aimed at a bright light, and there is a vertical or horizontal line seeming to come from the light. That column or row is being oversaturated.

  • uh that wasnt a lazer burn in ya just put the camera down fag its fake but the lazers were awesome

  • uh that wasnt a lazer burn in

  • good, maybe u should put your damn camera away and enjoy the show while your actually there!

  • i just don't understand how it can be very horizontal, i mean the laser didn't shoot at the sensor 100% horizontal, and also if the laser really did shot at the sensor, how would it be just a line? it would have been the whole sensor since it looks like the laser sweep the whole sensor to me. no offense but is this real??? by the way, was it kinda danger that they shoot laser to the audience?????

  • @sdutango BTW, does laser only kills DSLR or it will kill every camera such as point and shoot??

  • @sdutango - Point and shoot cameras use the same technology (CCD) as DSLR cameras.

  • @sdutango No, the laser didn't sweep the whole sensor. the damage only occurred when the laser was pointing -directly- at the sensor. as for why it's horizontal, i have a few guesses, but i'm not exactly sure.

  • @sdutango Yes its very real, you can find other similar videos of laser damage causing exactly the same problem to CMOS sensors. And yes, at that level it wont do you eyes much good if you keep staring at it dead on straight angle for too long. As cool as lasers look at such a low level shooting through crowds, you have to be a bit careful.

  • @sdutango Lasers become very concentrated when shot through a lens - think of it as a magnifying glass. A concentrated light becoming more concentrated has a lot of power in it. Combine this with a sensor which is overclocked to shoot in near darkness and you've got issues. The reason the line is horizontal is because that is how the pixels are arranged in a sensor. So a single piece of circuitry going out would blow the entire row of pixels.

  • @AngryGoats Oh, I see on that horizontal pixels, but I still don't understand why not the whole sensor is damage because it looks like the laser swiped through the whole sensor

  • @AngryGoats i dont think he was asking what happened to it...

  • @sdutango if the light source (likely combo strobes and lasers) damages the correct point on the cmos or the cmos fails in a certain way it will take out the entire line trace as it has no more continuity. Same with lcd screens, many times had customers bring them in with loose solder joins, one takes out entire line. Sometimes they also occured mid-screen without breaking it.

  • Que dolor....!!!

  • Dude thats so depressing fuck my life

  • Wow that sucks

  • Damn.Same problem with 550d.Small purple/blue dot on the screen.Interesting is that when change the shutter speed about at 400 the dot is dissapearing, same when manually change the aperture.

  • @xeqtrmkd it's called hot pixel and it's quite usual, that you will get them even after months of regular shooting (with no lasers :) ).

  • Fat boy slims music broke your sensor. Great!

  • H2O - What's it gonna be (Vandalism Remix), enjoy and check my channel : )

  • Any idea why subsequent passes of the laser over the sensor did not create more lines?

  • Jeesh, i gotta becarefull with my 5dmii

  • is it just me or do i think this is the most awesome thing ever

The sensor broke just as the music rose and OMG awesome

  • Oh MY WORD!!!

Hey duder, thanks for posting this. I film quite a bit of club stuff and now I've seen this will be avoiding those lasers!

It would bring me to tears if that happened to my new 5D.

Wonder if there's a filter to prevent? Either way I'm vertainly gonna be wary.

Glad you got it sorted out.

    All the best, N

  • If you are in a public place then you can within reason take pictures/video of anything you want. Issues arrise with children or police officers. There have been cases where people have been stopped under anti-terrorism laws for filming police officers. If you are NOT in a public place (the ground you stand on is owned by a person/company) you need permission to film. Doing so without permission means the venue owner will own copyright to the pics/video. They can't take camera off you though.

  • @AJpianoUK some exceptions apply to registered press where there is proof of public interest.

  • Extreme 5D

  • What festival is this? I love this track and want to see if anyone else got any footage

    Thanks

  • OMG

  • нефиг видео снимать, а так очень жаль 80косарей на ветер

  • WOOOW!!

    Cool laser man!!

  • just imagine what it does to your eyes if it does that O_O

  • HAHAHAHA, DENIED!!!!!!?!`1111

  • Shite, that's balls :/ guess it'd only happen when the shutter is open for a while, I'm still on a 400 but shoot a lot of gigs. I hope it's somehow covered under warranty...

  • it may have broke it but hey the show is freakin awesome

  • What song was that? That was a good song.

  • Lasers.What can't they do?

  • yeah cause, ya know, every land owner is so going to flip when he realizes someone took a photo or video of something happening on his turf. Oh wait, the landowner already leased the plot of land to the event organizers, so its the organizers' problem now. What does organizer say? Here's your permit. Go forth, shoot this and don't ruin your 5D by pointing it straight at a laser.

  • cool ... the laser thing looks like the milky way

  • how would u know if the sensor is damaged? how do you tell? thanks

  • I guess no more recording with my T2i from now on.

  • Crappier cameras seem to be much more laser-proof. /watch?v=GqcSYukkesc&feature=related

  • think what the shit does to your eyes if it killed your cam

  • The Who light show killed a pixel in my DV camera, and they weren't even using lasers. I kind of laughed about it actually, if you're gonna get a dead pixel it should be at a fucking awesome rock show.

  • supersonic.

  • LOL pwned!

  • @mihneadevries i know right, how come it didnt fuck it up the other x it looked at the laser again and again and agina lol

  • @mihneadevries No it's not. This is exactly what would (and does) happen to DSLR cameras shooting video as the sensor is wide open. The unusually high frequency of light over-charges the sensor nodules and the charge can't dissipate, thus said nodules (i.e. pixels) blow out and cannot function or record pixels thereafter.

  • @KeirAyres Some performers allow their shows to be photographed/taped. Maybe you shouldn't be such a bitchy little angry troll.

  • Comment removed

  • @KeirAyres

Well I did not film it illegally I actually work for the festival and had a permit to film and photograph it!!!

  • @TheisPhotography I feel sorry for you and your camera :( Did you have insuranse for it?

  • Comment removed

  • @TheisPhotography

Really, you worked for the festival from the backrow? HAHA stfu.

  • @strathpol - You're not a photographer are you strathpol? I recently had an invite to photograph a national act, but could only work from the sound desk, mid-way back in the arena, NOT from in front of the stage. That's quite a common restriction, it depends on the venue.

  • @TheisPhotography yeah right, you arent even in a "permit only" filming location

  • @TheisPhotography I was going to say, that's probably why they say no filming at concerts! (LOL =D ) But, since you were able to that stinks!!! Good thing Canon fixed it!

  • @KeirAyres Er, since when is it illegal to film a concert?

  • Comment removed

  • @KeirAyres This is a concert, though. If this is illegal then just about everyone I know has broken the law, myself included. I've never once heard of any issue with taking pictures or recording video at a concert. Look up the photographer's bill of rights (apparently cant post links), I've read it before, and a concert sure seems to fit the public place bit.

  • Comment removed

  • @KeirAyres Oh gosh! You're right! I'm such a misguided idiot :[

Honestly I pity you, I bet people come from all around just to spend some quality time with such a fine young gent.

I was holding a polite discussion, you're being an immature and arrogant prick.

  • Comment removed

  • @KeirAyres Oh yes, and I bet you have a master's degree in law. Just because I don't spend my spare time studying trespassing doesn't give you the right to call me an idiot. I'm a CS major, it's practically the last thing I care about.

For the record, paying for a ticket to go to a venue grants you access, so that isn't trespassing. Unless posted at aforementioned venue via a sign, or announcement, taking pictures or video isn't illegal. Hell, most bands love the free publicity.

    Have a nice day.

  • @KeirAyres Shut the fuck up, please. I said please. But really, shut the fuck up. You sound like a snob who covers his face when a group of tourists 100m away is taking a picture on the same street you're on. He said he had a permit, and even if he didn't, it's JUST A CAMERA. It won't kill anybody if he films...except his sensor :) Glad you got this fixed @TheisPhotography

  • @KeirAyres The idea that a person should not be able to film a live event is total bullshit. We should have freedom to film whatever we want. It's one step removed from saying people should have to pay to take photographs as mementos.

  • Comment removed

  • @KeirAyres Well, I'm afraid I disagree with you, and so does Wikipedia and the law in the UK.

  • Comment removed

  • @KeirAyres As someone that's studied bullshit I can tell you that your statement fits the standard definition.

    Educate yourself before spreading disinformation.

  • @KeirAyres Pwned. And who cares anyway..

  • @KeirAyres Completely pwned.
