From all your little gasps of pain, I'm going to guess there is no other way to comb out natural hair except screaming in agony. XD dang it! Looks tight though
@OkashiiAmerican I guess the trick is to not wait for your curls to lock up and dry out like I did. Perhaps start combing the hair after showering? Just a guess...
lol...wow.... im currently tryna put mine in a ponytail... not sure what to do first.. i was gonna wash it, then put gel in it. i've been growing my hair since i cut my high top off.. which was this time last year...so id say ive been growing it out a good 10 or 11 months.
@1SirCarlton I always started with slightly moist hair, which is interesting, because hours later when I took out the pony-tail, there was still moisture in there. When I did mine, I could never get all the hairs in there though, there were always some "fly-aways." I guess I needed to have much longer hair (?) Once again, I'm no Steven Segal, but, you might want to try getting as much hair as you can in the pony-tail first, and then seal it all together with some slapped-on, smoothed-in gel.
@xmen171 thats what im thinking. that i might not have long enough hair to put it all in there. another problem im facing is actually putting the rubber band on. lol yes im using a rubber band... dont have the proper...um...tie down thingy? lol
@DemolitionBoy15 First, I am no expert. But, here's my thoughts. Perhaps genetics are at work? Meaning, your hair's uneven growth may be something inherited and unavoidable. Does that mean the end of your afro world? Not! I say let it grow out then trim it to a nice even sphere with electric clippers. Or, do "pat down" shaping. That simply involves you puffing it all out, then patting the uneven parts down with your hands. Black people have been shaping their afros like this for decades!
Aye mah boii am coming from chicago. I got really wavy hair and im a black male. Just saying how long will this take get an afro. I wanna fro because im tired of haircuts. Urg please help my friend
@773deeznutz I'm no expert but it all depends on a few things: how fast your hair grows, volumne, etc. The afro you see in this vid took me two years to grow. But, there's no reason you can't have a decent afro in less time than that. An afro is an afro! It doesn't matter how long it is. Some of my personal tips to help it grow include not washing a lot and moisturizing. Hair follicles have a hard time growing in dry scalps. Good luck. Please post some videos to show us your progress.
@mimymiamor I am not sure. I am sorry to tell you that I was born with this hair. I did not do anything special, or go to any salons to style it. All I do is shake the water out of my hair after showering and pat it dry with a towel. My curls form naturally. If I comb my hair too much, it will become more straight and fluffy. So, I don't comb it very often. I just try to shape it with my fingers.
I've got an afro too, and man, it takes a LONG time to prepare the hair after I shower. Around 15 mins of waiting for it to dry, then putting my hands through it for 10 mins, then about 10-15 mins of combing xD
@BohemianAsh I agree. Afro hair requires a lot of work. That's why I only pick it out for these videos. Normally, I keep it they way it is at the start of this video. If you're sporting an afro every day, duuude, my hat's off to you. You're a stronger man than me.
Can you help me get my hair like yours is at the beginning of the video? My hair grows afro like but I want it curly like yours is. Can you give me some tips?
@B33ZY101 Remember these words, "Don't break the curl." Meaning, don't use a comb or brush. They straighten and detangle your hair. And, don't shampoo so often. I shampoo only once a week. Normally while showering, I use my fingers to "comb" my hair backward. As I sit under the water, I run my fingers through my hair, making sure to get out all the kinks. Lastly, when I step out of the shower, I shake my hair from side to side and PAT it dry with paper towels. Try that. Good luck!
@xmen171 a woman told me that it will grow out and become equal with the rest again and that she had tried it before. and each time i am combing my hair when it is wet some of it always falls off is it bad?
@MrShiftowns Good question. The key is to not comb or brush it. You'll destroy the curls. Instead, in the morning, after I shower, I shake my head from side to side like a wet dog and the natural curls are left. Such a long explanation, huh? I should have just should said, "Because my hair is cool."
@BigAfroRaheem1 On this particular day, my curls were especially tight. I try to let my hair be natural by not adding a lot of greasy hair products after shampooing. That way my hair curls up pretty nicely on their own. But, I certainly pay the price if I try to comb them out. After I shot this video (two months ago) I have left my curls alone. I have no interest in repeating the pain of pulling them out again.
