Hi Steve Rabb - Thanks for sharing your talent and sound - appreciate that!
You mentioned Buddy Cole - which reminded me of the same timeline, Eddie Layton, organ & Buddy Marrow, t'bone - 33LP Titled "Just We Two" continuous medley both sides - wore two albums OUT. I'll have to see if that "treasure" can be called up in CD quality... If you ever come across it, give it a spin, I promise that it will NOT disappoint!
Steve your playing is inspirational you GOT the original registrations of Henry mancini's version for orchestra. IT IS BRINGING ME TO TEAR THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING. LOVE LOVE LOVE THAT HAMMOND ORGAN SOUND!!!
@rcpict79 I just used a fakebook music of melody and shorthand chords and improvised the rest, so I don't really have any written arrangement of it. Thanks.
Just superb. You captured Buddy's sound perfectly. Buddy was absolutely the organist on the original Mancini session, he was replaced by someone else for the "Mr. Lucky goes latin" LP release as he knew his organ playing made the original album and wanted more than union scale for any future "Lucky" release.
Mancini/producers went elswhere. Buddy died in 1964 at age 46, a true loss.
Look up his "Modern pipe organ" and "Autumn Nocturne" albums.
Hammonds have the crispest sound of any organ I've heard before and the A100 is a nice model for a cheaper b3 sub. This is a great song and I also like the synth combo in the middle.
This is an EXCELLENT performance of Mr. Lucky. Thank Goodness for all the memories archived by You Tube. I would be hard pressed to find this otherwise.
As a kid in 1960 I don't remember seeing an episode or two of the actual show, but the Theme Song was popular and played on the radio. This is a Mancini masterpiece.
You do well on Alley Cat too.
It would be cool if you could play at Bransom, Missouri or even a lounge in Las Vegas.
Great job! It's always nice to see an intact A-100. Too bad so many of them are being cannibalized. If you truly love the Hammond Organ, you should not do that.
Thanx for subscribing to my videos. Your Mr. Lucky is VERY well played, and reminds my of Buddy Cole playing it on the original Mancini recording. I hope to record this on my theater organ some time and will send you a copy. I was able to pick most of it up from your Youtube. So sometime I hope you will be able to hear another slant on this fine tune, this time with theater pipe organ voices. BTW Jesse Crawford recorded it on one of his last albums, so there is yet another version out there.
Thanks for your compliments. Looking forward to hearing your version played on the theatre organ. I spent the last hour searching Amazon and eBay for the Jesse Crawford version. Found it on eBay. It's on the way. It'll be interesting to hear Jesse's take on it.
Steve: Thanks for the insight on who played the Hammond on the recording of Henry Mancini. Have always loved that version. You play the song very well, and will agree that music sounds so much nicer with it comes from a master like Henry Mancini.
Absolutely fantastic ! It's so great to see and hear such great organ playing that utilizes the full sound range of the instrument without it being drown out by other instruments. Thanks for posting !
My all-time favorite song, on my all-time favorite instrument, GREAT registration, nice rich reverb. I normally "cry foul" with synth..... but you integrated it so well I just can't. You're really inspiring me to go home and practice. THANKS for posting this GREAT performance.
Incredible! The ultimate favorite sound from one of the best that ever composed- Mancini. Thanks for bringing back great memories. It makes you chill to hear that organ coming thru.
Wonderful! I had to search through my record library to find my Mancini "Artie Kane" promotional album and listen to Kane's arangement again. I honestly like the sound of your hammond more than the hammond Kane used in the promo album plus you did a great job blending in your synth. Nice sound!
Actually I haven't heard Artie's arrangement, I was familiar with Buddy Cole and hope I wasn't in error listing him as the player in the original recording. I found that info through research. Thanks for your compliments!
I don't think you were in error. Artie Kane entered Mancini's musical world sometime in the mid or later 1960s. Henry Mancini was such a great composer of jazz for the movies. A light certainly went out in the musical world when Mancini passed on.
Every new item from Steve Rabb is just GREAT - that's just how a Hammond Organ should sound!!
