@KickingKids Well, if you make a new sequence at 1920x1080i and have your field dominance at "upper"...that might do it. Also, I think there might be an interlacing filter you can put over your footage. Just makes sure you don't see motion lines - that's the worst.
@KickingKids You can change your Sequence settings by right clicking on it (or Control+click) and going to Settings. From there, I believe it's Field Dominance. Make your Field Dominance anything but none (which is progressive). You're probably going to want Upper, which is what 1080i is filmed in. Lower is usually Standard Definition.
@RMMultimedia No, I'd always deinterlace it. Many movies are shot on film which is true progressive at 24fps...but even those are burned onto DVD at 480i - it's just standard definition resolution and image scanning. Basically what you don't want to see are interlaced lines.
@StevenlovesChar Technically, kind of. It's how the image is scanned/recorded - every other line (interlaced) or consecutive lines (progressive) However, if you are uploading for others to see - you don't want complaints about the interlacing lines. It'd not a huge quality loss though
I'm not certain that YouTube accepts those, but I always compress to H.264 anyway. I'd just export to an uncompressed Quicktime ProRess 422 (it will be huge) file and then take that file though Compressor and compress to H.264.
@airbillnumber I would bring it in as 422, but export for web as an H.264. This keeps quality and gives a much lower file size. Also, youtube doesn't stream video at biterates higher then 4 mb/s anyway
i have a sony HDR-XR500v using FCP 7 and i cant find what my settings should be in the audio/ video settings. Every time i export in apple prores 422 1920x1080p 30p 48khz and upload to youtube is says processing failed!
Are there a program that does this but for windows??

I need some assistance ASAP.
I see that you can export 1080i to 1080p, but can i export 1080p to 1080i?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm making a commercial for the american shopping channel, but they won't accept progressive scan picture.
I'm filming with the Canon rebel t2i which shoots in its native 1080p if thats any help to you in solving this pickle.
Also, I'm editing with final cut pro 7

Also - because Iam puting my final export onto DVD Studio Pro [480i] should I not have to "de-interlace" the export as an option too?

Hey ratkins - can I use this same procedure for export to DVD Studio Pro? I thought I'd ask before I try.
Thanks

@RMMultimedia Yeah, just convert that 1080p file to a DVD Preset in Compressor then
ratkins0687 1 year ago
@ratkins0687 hi ratkins - got your reply - however it cut off after Compressor then.....

Does it lose it's quality if you make interlaced video into progressive? I ask because interlaced video isn't "one complete frame of video.

what are you transfering in as? I see this camera is 1080i AVCHD
ratkins0687 2 years ago
Also, Youtube may not accept the ProRess 422 codec...I always upload in h.264, because you have to compress anyway for the web...
