I pretty sure that you are installing the OS to your current OS. This is considered easier because if you decide you don't want the operating system anymore you can just delete the OS out of your programs (easily found in your control panel). It's also a lot safer for those who don't have experience dual booting in my opinion.
Finally someone that uses some good music on a tutorial lol. I was getting tired of all that techno stuff. Anyway, good video, it was informative, that's for sure. I might try this out... I just don't quite want to risk somehow losing all my info and school work. I have Puppy Linux installed to the Hard disk on my netbook, but I'm wary in regards to dual booting Ubuntu with Windows, it's fairly risky. We'll see. Great video, though.
when i try to install, because im running this on my netbook, i shoose ubuntu netbook as a second OS, but it comes up with being unable to acess the server. any suggestions?
Hey guys at @hackpodnet. I got an issue. I installed Wubi as shown but after rebooting my PC the screen at 1:29 doesn't appear so i can't choose Kubuntu. I'm using Windows XP SP3. Any help?
ummm, this is Wubi, which isn't a full install of Ubuntu, it's kind of like a live CD but it saves it all to your hard drive and allows it to boot with it. You could download the full install and run it beside your OS
so, if you install ubuntu, you can switch back and forth from ubuntu to windows? also, if you install this will you loose other programs like windows office, rosseta stone..etc or will they still be there?
It's that fucking easy? What have I been spending 20 minutes downloading, then? Also, I hate the new dual-boot screen... I want to dual-boot on Windows.
i had to get this freeware to my laptop becuse well first . i deleted the os, secondly when i try to instal windows xp and when iget to the place where ur suppoused to chose hardrive. it blue screens.
I have a question... I installed this like 5 times because every time it didn't let me change it to ubuntu, even when I manually entered the boot select screen. what am i doing wrong?
PS the "demo" thing works fine... but it's useless basically.
@johnnyrainbow123 Well i understand that you had windows and wanted to install Ubuntu but failed and couldnt get into windows again. Download a Supergrub iso and burn it onto a cd ( different pc Or do it on ubuntu when you run the livecd) Then boot with The superGrubcd and select detect any os, this will detect your windows and makes sure you can enter it. From there on download Easus partition magic and restore your partition by selecting Rebuild MBr, after that windows is accesible again
@tomo0594 if u want a bual boot on the same drive partition your drive into two seperate drives and install linux on another drive, that way you can boot ur os and linux when ur computer starts! hope i helped reply if this helped!
@Coolboy529 it may have done if I hadn't already done it :) I just used the article in the description and I managed to install it on the same partition
I have now installed ubuntu/kubuntu, but it takes me to a loggin screen pretty much like the one in windows, but i'm not sure wich username and password to type, i tried the one i use on windows but it didn't work.
do you've a method to install a dual boot ( ubuntu and window ), and then run it both without using Virtualbox or the other? which mean, you can go to the another Os just like changer another user account.
Is this method of installation (virtual partition) any slower or more problematic in any way than the traditional methode of creating a new partition on the disk?
Because honestlu it sounds a bit too easy and cool too be true.
my computer is a bit older. i went to reinstall windows and found i had lost my xp disc. I was stuck installing vista. Needless to say my computer runs like a slug now. SOOOO slow. If i installed ubuntu through windows like you have done should it possibly speed things up for me or do i need to reformat my harddrive with ubuntu. Hope i am clear. PLEASE HELP! thanks.
when i go to select the installation drive the only option is the C drive with 500 gb free, but you said to not have more than 250 so what should i do?
When u choose at the install screen before rebooting it takes like 37 minutes here.. but i saw u used 6GB my pc automaticly use 17GB is that ok?? i still; have 233GB free but Its going on now i hope it works cause i had many troubles like error screen when i installed windows 7 but thanks :) i comment later again :)
hi, i succeeded installing ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop. but i'm having trouble getting my external monitor (connected to VGA) works correctly. The screen on monitor keeps flashing and i observed very high noise in the image. It seems to me that ubuntu does not send the signal to my external monitor in a stable way (I also have WinXP and it is fine.) Could this be a hardware-recognition problem? Is there is any driver fix? Could anyone help? Thanks!
I need HELP!!! i installed Ubuntu and its all fine, but i cant boot into windows 7, it automatically goes into Ubuntu, and now i want to uninstall it. Any help? ive tried changing default boot settings but theres no files :( this is real scarey cause just got my new pc and im going to be dead if i cant fix it!!!!!!
@MrPcHackz , were you able to solve your problem? My question was gonna be, what if I want to have it automatically boot into one of the OS's or delete Ubuntu outright, what do I do?
@afhead Well it seems that i partitioned over my windows 7 so i lost my legit version. and there was no way that i could install another OS over ubuntu. So i bought a new hard-drive and installed windows 7 from the disk i bought.
Id reccomend you dont install Ubuntu since it is actually pretty shit.
For the uninstall'ing part there are video's on youtube.
If you still want Ubuntu use Wubi Installer. it does everything for you and i've used it before no problems.
@tanjoodo Wubi creates a virtual partition, which just reformats the existing partitions. So you really don't need to worry about resizing your already existing partitions.
I followed this video exactally (installing ubuntu not kubuntu) and got up as far as 1.44 where the ubuntu logo appears, it then dissappears and i'm left with a blank screen and nothing else happens. I tried leaving it for a while but still nothing happened. I also ...... continued
pressed esc and tried the other boot options and they all came to a stop at some point and would go no further. Can anyone help me? I am running windows 7 64bit on my Samsung x460 with 4GB DDR3 ram and a dedicated graphics card. I partitioned my external hard drive and installed it onto that and then changed the boot order in my bios but surely it doesnt have to be installed on my computers hard drive to work? Any help would be great.
@Sorakh221 uhh... no flip fade effect when opening or closing a window? also check out the close button, its not attached to the tip of the title bar,

@josefzachariassen You likely installed wubi. If you want ubuntu to have more, you should remove wubi, burn ubuntu to cd, and run the installer. Ubuntu will ask you how much you want to resize windows, and you can move the little bar. :-)
the desktop environment that is used. for Kubuntu the desktop environment is KDE and for Ubuntu it is Gnome, the only real difference is looks. just pick which one you like bes t
yeah easiest way to dual boot, the only issue with that is that you will need to change what drive to boot from in the bios every time you want to change from windows to ubuntu and vice versa

@frand120 It'd certainly be safe to do so, but you might want to wait for me to post a video with an update for a Windows 7 bug workaround for WUBI.
Your netbook should be faster and the battery should last longer with Ubuntu/Kubuntu.
The worst thing that can happen is for it to not boot into the installer and/or installed system. If that happens, you can just remove it like a regular Windows app and reinstall (K)ubuntu.
same can help me?? after reboot and selecting ubuntu i get 55.415417 firmware bug.power now-k8:your bios does not provde acpi_pss in a way that linux understand. who do i fix this
i can't understand a thing. when i install it do i have to already have a spare disk or do you make one when installing? is it possible in any way to lose any stuff from your existing hard drive?
@DrumOlly No, dude, you just need to have the main disk with one or many partitions (no need to make changes, just let it as it is) and install from within windows just like I did.
I downloaded the latest Ubuntu studio and realize there's no wubi after I mounted the iso so I tried getting the latest wubi 9.04 to run but the wubi attempts to download Ubuntu Studio again and worst, its getting the 64 bit OS for my x86 machine....
Thanx but I think I found out what's the problem, according to the faq the iso I downloaded is an "alternate iso" and they are not supported by wubi and to get a supported 32bit Ubuntu iso for my x86 machine, I must start wubi with a "32bit argument?"(not really sure what that means or how its done)
Anyway, I guess unless I feel secure to use my 64bit machine to test Linux, I should forget about it for now
i see you have chosen c: for installing kubuntu .. was windows 7 installed on c: also or another partition?

i can't understand a thing. when i install it do i have to already have a spare disk or do you make one when installing? is it possible in any way to lose any stuff from your existing hard drive?
DrumOlly 2 years ago
@DrumOlly No, dude, you just need to have the main disk with one or many partitions (no need to make changes, just let it as it is) and install from within windows just like I did.
Really, that's all there is to it.

I downloaded the latest Ubuntu studio and realize there's no wubi after I mounted the iso so I tried getting the latest wubi 9.04 to run but the wubi attempts to download Ubuntu Studio again and worst, its getting the 64 bit OS for my x86 machine....
Why is the wubi ignoring the iso I mounted?
Inthewet 2 years ago
I haven't considered trying out Ubuntu Studio. I'll see if I can get it to work and let you know.
hackpodnet 2 years ago
Thanx but I think I found out what's the problem, according to the faq the iso I downloaded is an "alternate iso" and they are not supported by wubi and to get a supported 32bit Ubuntu iso for my x86 machine, I must start wubi with a "32bit argument?"(not really sure what that means or how its done)
Anyway, I guess unless I feel secure to use my 64bit machine to test Linux, I should forget about it for now
Inthewet 2 years ago
You're thinking it's risky to try it, but it's not even remotely as risky as you think it is.

Are you running the installer as an user with administrator rights?
hackpodnet 2 years ago
forgot to say that I dont have much free space left on C drive where vista is installed.
zepix92 2 years ago
Obviously, you need to free up at least 6GB of space on the partition you choose for this to work.

I need help, I am getting error when extracting files from D, it says access denied check log blablabla. How can I fix that? Thanks:) nice vid btw
zepix92 2 years ago
Hey, great video! Very helpful, and should help newer to Linux users to experience Linux. IMO, every distribution should include that option.
BTW, may I ask what is the music you have included in the video?
LeoNatan25 2 years ago
I am sorry, my bad, just looked at Statistics & Data, and it's there - Rubber Band Collection.
LeoNatan25 2 years ago
That's the song. It's one of the songs Youtube provides. It's better to use one of those songs if you do not have voice over the video.
hackpodnet 2 years ago
Yeah, I keep forgetting to look at S&D section. it's a great feature of YouTube indeed. :)
