@cellopipe In fact he built this organ!! The front is the Marenghi original but the organ itself is not!! I think the original 'Wonderland' is now sadly no longer with us.
@petermackett37 If it was a Marenghi arrangement then I would guess the British monarch at the time it was made was either Edward VII or George V (who both reigned during the 'hey day' of fair organs.) Charles Marenghi himself didn't make arrangements did he?, if he didnt then why didnt they put the markers names on the book labels instead of merely putting on 'CH Marenghi Et Cie'?
@ceredigio Charles Marenghi did not arrange music, there were always a team of factory arrangers in those days whose names were never recorded on the books as it was just seen as an unimportant job then, you do sometimes find the names of the girls who cut the books written on the edge and most of them are dated, the only two that i definitely know arranged for Marenghi are Ernest Drijvers and Marcel Bartier.
@petermackett37 So I guess there were female book cutters but no markers? I've only known Bartier to arrange for cafe organs (you can hear some of his books in some vids of 'England's Pride'.) The late George Cushing in his memoirs 'Steam at Thursford', says that when the Marenghi was being overhauled they found a few names of Marenghi factory workers scribbled onto the bellows in pencil, as well as the date 1910 (or 1905?).
@ceredigio Yes,most of the cutting was done by girls,i have seen the names Lucie and Marie on the edge of some Marenghi books, the markers names were never recorded but all the books bear the initial M so they must have been the person who checked and passed the completed books,Bartier was with the firm,by then Gaudin from 1925 - 1930,he then went on to work for Mortier and as a freelance, his early arranging style is similar to Jan Verbeeck.
Spent a good hour infront of this organ at elvaston this year....great video, i love wonderland :)

First tune,Hoch Heidecksburg March, second tune,is ''The music goes round and around'',1930's Chiappa book, probably Louis Blache

@karlplastow I may be wrong but I think John Cocchi was also arranging for Chiappa around that time, unless he came along later

This organ was the late Victor Chiappa's pride.
