Get food, find a good shelter, grab one gun and one sidearm and, for the love of God, don't buy shotguns, buy a silencer! You don't want to attract all the damn carcasses in proximity of 1km! Lead pipe is not a bad weapon for melee, to be honest. It's light enough to carry it, heavy enough to dish out enough damage to the brain and, unlike blades/axes it won't get stuck in the skull.

All normal survival rules apply, plus proper countermeasures.
