Wow! I am so glad you put this wonderful film up on here! I had seeen it before and it is one of my favorite all-time films. What a work of art! Khmer life is often a struggle, but the people are stoic and make the most of life. I admire their spirit and resilience.

Very happy to see a Khmer movie...thank you for posting. To many Khmer dubbed Thai soap operas. Glad to see and hear something in Khmer, and have a plot that is true to our identity. A saying I heard on TV that stuck im my mind...There are two ways to be rich. One is earning a lot of money, and buying everything your heart desires. And the other is being happy with what you have, and you'll be happier than anyone can be. Thats what the Cam. govt should say, and make everyones spirit high.

Rithy Panh is one of the best Cambodian directors alive. He directed/released this movie (Rice People in 1994), and many other great films. Rice People is the first Cambodian film ever submitted to the Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film.

Dude, anyone can submit their film to the Oscars lol. It's like how everyone can apply to Yales but not get in. That being said, I've seen a few of his works and they are pretty cool. He has an artist's heart. All the other Khmer movies being made today are for shear profits only. That's why they suck big time. An artist can make the mundane beautiful where the for-profit filmmakers or producers can go bankrupt creating a crappy superficial and shallow sad attempt at the cinema.

Neak jomkar/Neak sre has the same meaning, farmers, duhh...

In Khmer language, Neak Jomkar and Neak Sre have different meanings.

Neak Jomkar refer to those who have fruits and vegetable plantation whereas Neak Sre have and work on rice fields as their main source of income. Some farmers or country folks are both Neak Sre and Neak Jomkar. This way, their standard of living is much better.

Hope and wish, in the future, Khmer farmers will be as rich as European farmers.
