In defense of Venture, it had a creepy vibe that was wonderful. The music and characters really capture the imagination. The ghoul that enters after some time was horrific for a child. I remember really having the sense of penetrating deeper into a frightening dungeon.
I remember when I was about eight, I went over to a neighbor's house and started playing this. My friend left me alone and I just stayed there and played it for god knows how long. I think they were miffed that I did that, but hey, it was a great game!
On second thought maybe I just went upstairs to the landing and started playing of my own accord, I'm not sure.
Wow. This brings back memories! My grandparents had Colecovision. I would play this whenever I was over there. Yeah it sucks but it has such sentiment and nostalgia for me personally.
wow, I'm really surprised by this review, Venture is an absolute classic, still very challenging and fun, the sights and sounds of the game are classic arcade style. Loved Venture as a kid, and if I stumble across it I'm always happy to play again.
Not only was the main character poorly rendered, he was poorly named ("Winky"? With a name like that, growing up as a member of a barbarian tribe in the Cimmerian wilderness must have been a bitch.)
One of my bro. used to work for coleco , and they could buy cartridges with damaged labels for cheap , we ended up with a massive video games cartridges collection , including that game , oh i loved that game so much !
im enjoying ur reviews, keep it up :) but i gotta say i don't agree with u on this one..
almost as many question marks there are rooms,, and the challenge gets really good as it gets harder,, its a good merger of berserk and adventure kinda..like u said but it adds the bonus counter for the hi score so u can have something to challenge ur friends..and u forgot to add when u shoot the corpses they stay longer.. so its best not to rapidly shoot the corpses blocking ur exit
