Check out the solo. The studio version is just as good. This is a really good example of yet a whole other side of his playing that a lot of people(not saying you) are completely oblivious to seeing as they've probably never heard anything beyond Cult, Glamour Boys, etc.. And of course like any stellar band they always take things to a whole other level in a live situation. So yes absolutely amazing band! Enjoy!
@fatbackfunk I usually have to tell the guitarists in my bands to tone it down too and try to write some melodies or use some vibrato. Although the other guys probably didnt feel comfrotable telling him that since he started the band (Vernon Reid) lol. Sounds like he is trying to keep it metal by shredding so much. Except he shredds melodic minors and chromatics and whatnot.
@Kharn8181 He's not playing any real scales in this song, he's just shredding random notes like Slayer! But you would know this if you played an instrument.
@murderousbastard83 i know your game, i see your comments in other music videos always throwing shit to people talkin about music sitting in front on your pc
@Kharn8181 Living Colour is still an amazing band regardless. And Vernon Reid writes most of their tunes but sometimes the gratuitous shredding gets old quick. Thow some melody in there! Anway, I don't care what you think about my comments. I have a right to my opinion and I 've been playing music for a long time before Youtube ever existed.
@murderousbastard83 Well I see what you're saying but the random pentatonic shredding is only a sliver of what this guy is all about. Vernon absolutely knows his instrument inside and out & is more knowledgeable & has much more musical depth (harmonically, melodically, & conceptually) than most guitar players out there today. This example of his soloing does not at all fully represent entirely what his musical vocabulary consists of or what he's capable of. He is truly a brilliant musician.
i think some of this is shot in Aug at Great Woods in Mansfield MA. It looks like the venue and Dave Navarro of Janes played w them which is seen towards the end of the vid. I think it's the only time on tour he did.
It was easy to forget they were on that first Lollapalooza tour since they didn't play at every single date and were eventually replaced by Fishbone, I believe.
they did play the whole thing. fishbone only played two dates on the 1st Lollapalooza and LC were on the dates with them. Fishbone played (and were considered one of the headliners) at Lollapalooza 93
Yeah, I remember FB from the '93 lineup, but, I had always been under the assumption they had stood-in for LC in '91. One of the bands from '91 didn't complete the whole tour, right? I had always thought it was LC. The Femmes, maybe?
@Fakename70 You got it sir! It was The violent Femmes who dropped out...they were not on the bill when the festival hit southern california (neither was Fishbone for that matter)
3:40 hello Dave Navarro!!!?? :D
