fashcndy Please forgive the ignorance of others who have no knowledge of culture and disrespect other cultures. The vast majority of Puerto Rican know that the African beat of congas originated in Africa. How the Taino Indians helped and embraced the Black slaves from Christopher Columbus and into freedom. Yes, the mixture has become a Latino Black sound in PR, DR, Panama, Cuba, all over so we can only give true credit to the Africans for their introduction of such beautiful music and sound.
I'm African-American but this dance is seen in my great grandparents whos parents were sharecroppers and slaves who danced like this. @sopaman1234 I agree 100% Brother. There is nothing more Powerful, more Beautiful, more Extravagant, more Extraordinary than being NEGRO. The FIRST Human Being on earth the Black Man and the Black Woman, we are very proud of it! My Negro Ancestors brought here via The Great Western-European Slave Trade Chained and Shackled survived in darkness through whippings, lynchings, rapes, hunger, murders and through it all at the end of the day they'd express themselves with LA BOMBA.
@masterdeeable1 I was watching a program on tv with Dizzy Gallespie when went to vist cuba
he said that and it was very sad how the slaves were not allowed to speak their language that if they could to
slaves speaking the same language they were beaten and how they took away their drums and that cuba's afriacn culture and music was close to afrian music of the slaves in the Us that's because they were allowed to keep their culture what really upsets me is when you have all these whites cont'd

I love the music of my Afro Puertorican ancestors my blood. This is the music of my family from barrio Tortugo in Rio Piedras, Puerta de Tierra, Barrio Obrero, Loiza, Carolina, Luquillo. Saludos to all my cousins Castro, Rosario, Chiclana, Rosa, Pellot, Woodrup, Ma Simple, Cotto, Tapia y Merleno de este boricua ausente. Que viva la Bomba y Plena y LAS CARAS LINDAS DE MI GENTE NEGRA

Thanks for sharing this great video from el batey de los Hermanos Ayala en el Barrio Madiania Alta in my home town, Loiza, PR. I miss my people and my music...
Bomba is increasingly popular at Disney Land where the FAKE Tainos do their FAKE Apache rain dances & wear their FAKE Hopi war paint on their asses.
Bomba is also popular in FAKE presentations of "authentic" Portorican culture on US college campuses & typically presented by WHITE puerto ricans who have been brainwashed into an afro-centric ghetto mentality. You can find them at Cornell, UT-Austin,UW-Madison & even in UI-Champaign-Urbana & other "ancestral" homes of more FAKE Bomba"dancers".
@BennoFletcherBorges White puerto ricans Really where the fuck did get that bullshit of white puerto Ricans
ther's no such thing I'm a light skin Puerto Rican and if you see my father side of my family you prob. shit
your pants and stop talking that nonsense, maybe you came across some wannbe Puerto Ricans that think because they are light skins complexion that that makes them white check your history of my people before make a stupid dumbass comment like that again
I LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!TO BAD TRADITION IS DYING OUT..AND FOR THOSE WHO LIVE OUTSIDE THE ISLAND , IN OTHER COUNTRIES AND DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE WOLD R MISSING OUT ON ALL WHAT PUERTO RICO HAS TO OFFER...
@diangeli2 AMORSITO OUR TRADITION NEVER DIES AMOR IT WILL LIVE FOR AS LONG AS WE BORICUAS WALK ON THIS PLANET OUR TRADITION AND MUSIC WILL NEVER DIE IT IS OUR JOB TO TEACH OUR KIDS TO MAINTAIN IT LIVE FOR WE STAND OUT FOR ONE STRONG ISLAND AND THAT IS THE ISLAND OF BORINQUEN!! ACHE MI GENTE!
I swear, this music is truly for the soul.. Our culture is so wonderful. Should PR become a state, America will regain its true roots. Puerto Ricans are definitely a well deserved people of the Americas.
as a boriqua, you hear this and HAVE to move. it's like it's engrained in our blood when we hear drums we move naturally. nothing is more beautiful then that!!
Can someone tell me..was the 2nd lady having a game with the Lead drummer? It was like he had to match her moves; everytime she stopped, he stopped, and then resumed when she resumed dancing.
That sort of reminds me of Capoeira, the Brazilian martial art that I do..very rhthym related and all about energy!
hi i'm from loiza and the answer for you it's simple everything she do the drummer has to play at the same time she move it's like the beat of the music but in movements (sorry about my bad english but i hope u understand)
Lookie here... we are used to following the music when we dance.. in here, it's backwards; the dancer leads the musician. That's why the drummer is in tune with the dancer :)
@DaGlowingElement I WOULD GLADLY EXPLAIN TO YOU MY FELLOW CARIBEAN BROTHER IN OUR MUSIC OF BOMBA AND PLENA IT IS THE DANCER THAT LEADS THE MUSICIAN TO THE RHYTHM AS WE WERE ONCE AFRICAN TAINO SLAVES AND THE SLAPS ON THE BARRELS OF THE DRUMS IS OUR CRY OF LIBERTY AND FREEDOM AND AS YOU SEE MY FELLOW PAISAINAS DANCE THEY ARE LEADING INTO OUR CALL BACKS AS WE LEAD THE RITMO AND DANSA OF WHAT WE CALL BOMBA AND PLENA! I DEFINATELY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT THE CAPOETA! GOOD LOOK OUT! ACHE!
@Nehesy DEFINATELY BUT REMEMBER MY DEAR THE DIFFERENCE IS TREMENDOUS SHE IS YOUNGER THEN AIDA AND AIDA HAS BEEN KEEPING HER CULTURE! FOR THE LONGEST BUT AIDA DANCES IT THE TRADITIONAL WAY WHILE JESSICA DANCES IT THE YOUTH WAY ! WHICH IS THE SAME AMOR!!
@sifupr PLEASE DO MY QUERIDO FAMILIA! PLEASE DO! AND PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHEN THEIR ARE MORE! BEMBES AND TAMBORES! THAT WAY WE CAN INVITE MORE! ACHE MI FAMILIA!
loiza is part of my heart and soul. all my bests memeories is in loiza. this music is part o my past, pesent, and future. whn i hear the music of my loicenos, my heart swells up with pride.
@debo156 ACHE MI HERMANO!
No comprendo!?
Que chulo, de verdad, consta que viene de una Cibaena!! Estoy acostumbrada a oir Accordion y Guira pero esta musica esta SUPER! Jamas podre bailar asi, tan intenso ese baile, por dios que belleza!!!!
chuchuka whatever your name is. you are cibaena and you are not accustomed to this music? we have palo in the dominican republic in villa mella and san juan de la maguana has many different types of african dominican music. check out videos on here with palo. you are totally wrong we have our music too.
pupu or whatever your name is. Yes,I am cibaena and no,I do not listen to this type of music, so much there for that neither my family or neigboring families had any idea of huge diversity of our music and Santo Domingo music (ex. palos). All I listen to growing up were tipicos, pambiches, bachata(as in REAL bachata,Luis Segura)and sometimes mangulinas.
i am cibaeno myself from manabao and i was not accustomed to listening to afro dominican music either. when you think about it just because we are all dominicans does not mean that are cultures are entirely the same. case in point what you mentioned concerning the music you an i grew up with. you mention luis segura and i commend you for mentioning him an i will mention eladio romero santos and leonardo paniagua. the pioneers of bachata! i was just saying that in the republic we have such music.
Ok I understand where you come from now. Before, I felt like you were in attack mode.I agree with everything you stated.I will check him out right now,I had no idea of this man.I am from Santiago, well from a campo of Santiago. No need to state, you will not know where it is! I am truly campesina, from the mountains and all! So our music is completely different. I was just saying this is so beuatiful to me b/c its so different from my culture,MY campesino culture.
@PeepeeYChuchuka OK I RESPECT YOU RESPECT SANTIAGO EN DOMINICAN REPUBLIC MOST LIKEY LOVE OUR CULTURE IS VERY DIFFERENT AMOR YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF CAMPESINOS! PERO LOS CAMPESINOS ARE WAY DIFFERENT TO OUR PUERTO RICAN CULTURE! WHICH HAS BEEN AROUND FOR SO MANY YEARS AMOR! NUESTRA MUSICA OUR MUSIC! HAS A STORY BEHIND IT AND ITS A PRETTY POWERFUL ONE AS I WAS RAISED IN THIS CULTURE I KINDLY AND RESPECTFULLY ASK YOU TO PLEASE UNDERSTAND NOT EVERY CULTURE IS THE SAME ACHE MI GENTE LATINO/A GOD BLESS!
@PeepeeYChuchuka GRACIAS MI QUERIDA! HERMANA! DOMINICANA! SOY PUERTO RIQUEÑO Y DE PURO NACIMIENTO LAS CULTURAS SON BIEN DIFFERENTE! Y GRACIAS AMOR! QUE DIOS BENDIGA A QUISQUEYA LA BELLA! Y A TI MI QUERIDA HERMANA ACHE! SIGNIFICANDO! BENDICIONES!!!
@PeepeeYChuchuka I DID NOT MEAN IT THE WAY YOU READ IT JUST SAYING IT NO MATTER WHO AND OR WHAT WE ARE ALL ONE BODY BLOOD AND CULTURE SOME WAY OR ANOTHER ACHE MI GENTE~!
@triginta Puerto Rican Pride! I love being Rican too.. pero tu sabe si no hacemo nah y perdimo nuetra ila (nuetra patria) no vamo a perder to'a la cosa que tuvimo.. nuetra cultura, herencia, tradacion, lengua, herencia, historia.. Por eso tenemo que ecoger y pelar pa Independencia! Puerto Rican Independence.
We are a mix of 3 races: Taino Indian, Spanish and African. I have to say that I can definately relate to our African roots. So much rhythm, passion, movement and power. You can see as the second woman dances, she will move, and the drums will change their "repique" or rhythm according to her movements. I love her energy and the drummers too. Beautiful.
In Africa, dancing means more than just fancy steps. Even the drum beat has a message. The second woman danced as if the moves were past down. She is exceptionally talented. We African Americans have forgotten our roots! We have totally sterilized dancing to accomodate the Western world's idea of dance. Also, for all the ricans who are making negative comments about the blacks of Loiza and the African music, get a life! That African beat is what made Puerto Rico music popular, OKAY!
@deliveredin2009 I agree with you100% as a boriqua for those who don't know what word means is what the taino indians called Puerto Rico i'm very proud of my mixture and beautiful heritage, we as Puerto Ricans should be proud of our african, taino indian and our european roots they are what makes us who we are i don't care for BS and it makes me sick when people say black puerto rican white puerto rican we are all one
@fromnytopr i dont understand why people make puerto ricans and african americans seem so different , african americans are a mix of 3 races too
Puerto Rican = Taino idian, African and Spanish/European
African American = Native American, African, And European ( british, french and so on ) they have a similar mix, puerto ricans and african americans should get along
Basically. We look different because after Mulattos lost the special rights afforded to them by the whites they reintegrated with the other blacks. They never lost their rights in PR so you have more of them there.
@starRavenCraft I will have to say -and this is only my opinion- that it has to do more with the culture per se than the racial making. We feel that we are more in touch with our roots and with what we see as "real" culture than people in the United States in general, regardless of race. With some exceptions, most people in the U.S.A. subscribe to a popular culture (MTV generation). This is not say that this does not happen in Latin countries, especially due the comercialization of music.

DaGlowingElement 1 year ago
hi i'm from loiza and the answer for you it's simple everything she do the drummer has to play at the same time she move it's like the beat of the music but in movements (sorry about my bad english but i hope u understand)
nevadapr 1 year ago
Lookie here... we are used to following the music when we dance.. in here, it's backwards; the dancer leads the musician. That's why the drummer is in tune with the dancer :)
islanderslover 1 year ago
ACHE!

PeepeeYChuchuka 2 years ago 4
chuchuka whatever your name is. you are cibaena and you are not accustomed to this music? we have palo in the dominican republic in villa mella and san juan de la maguana has many different types of african dominican music. check out videos on here with palo. you are totally wrong we have our music too.
pupusoft 2 years ago
pupu or whatever your name is.
PeepeeYChuchuka 2 years ago
i am cibaeno myself from manabao and i was not accustomed to listening to afro dominican music either. when you think about it just because we are all dominicans does not mean that are cultures are entirely the same. case in point what you mentioned concerning the music you an i grew up with. you mention luis segura and i commend you for mentioning him an i will mention eladio romero santos and leonardo paniagua. the pioneers of bachata! i was just saying that in the republic we have such music.
pupusoft 2 years ago
look up a video of eladio romero santos. he was the first man to play merengue on guitar. did you know that?
pupusoft 2 years ago
Ok I understand where you come from now. Before, I felt like you were in attack mode.I agree with everything you stated.I will check him out right now,I had no idea of this man.I am from Santiago, well from a campo of Santiago. No need to state, you will not know where it is! I am truly campesina, from the mountains and all! So our music is completely different. I was just saying this is so beuatiful to me b/c its so different from my culture,MY campesino culture.
PeepeeYChuchuka 2 years ago

Beautiful.
fromnytopr 2 years ago 29
In Africa, dancing means more than just fancy steps. Even the drum beat has a message. The second woman danced as if the moves were past down. She is exceptionally talented. We African Americans have forgotten our roots! We have totally sterilized dancing to accomodate the Western world's idea of dance. Also, for all the ricans who are making negative comments about the blacks of Loiza and the African music, get a life! That African beat is what made Puerto Rico music popular, OKAY!
deliveredin2009 2 years ago 13
@deliveredin2009 I agree with you100% as a boriqua for those who don't know what word means is what the taino indians called Puerto Rico i'm very proud of my mixture and beautiful heritage, we as Puerto Ricans should be proud of our african, taino indian and our european roots they are what makes us who we are i don't care for BS and it makes me sick when people say black puerto rican white puerto rican we are all one
beautiful nationality QUE!! VIVA!! PUERTO!! RICO!!! YA!! LO!! SE!!!...

@fromnytopr i dont understand why people make puerto ricans and african americans seem so different , african americans are a mix of 3 races too
Puerto Rican = Taino idian, African and Spanish/European
African American = Native American, African, And European ( british, french and so on ) they have a similar mix, puerto ricans and african americans should get along
starRavenCraft 1 year ago 3
@starRavenCraft
Basically. We look different because after Mulattos lost the special rights afforded to them by the whites they reintegrated with the other blacks. They never lost their rights in PR so you have more of them there.
Quiteness 1 year ago
@starRavenCraft Exactly!
chsn09 1 year ago
@starRavenCraft I will have to say -and this is only my opinion- that it has to do more with the culture per se than the racial making. We feel that we are more in touch with our roots and with what we see as "real" culture than people in the United States in general, regardless of race. With some exceptions, most people in the U.S.A. subscribe to a popular culture (MTV generation). This is not say that this does not happen in Latin countries, especially due the comercialization of music.
