  • This is disgusting. What happened to caring about ALL people equally? That is the teachings of the bible and jesus last I checked. Far too many "religious" people contort the tenants or outright ignore them in order to be self-centered jerks.

  • Correction: He is not a practicing Catholic if he is living in a homo relationship.

  • Catholics are awful people.

  • I just love how the priest on there talks about hurting people, and consequences... Yes consequences for giving us LGBT people our denied rights to be treated equally under the law as tax paying citizens to our straight counterparts. Giving equal rights to oppressed minority, freeing them from years of hurt, and discrimination has only one real consequence, or effect as it should be stated: Equality. What the church is doing is showing that as a force of evil it hides itself well in the light.

  • @darkwolfx333 That priest scum was basically issuing a threat.

  • In later news the Catholic Church pulls and Ashton Kutcher and Punks DC; back tracking on its empty threats.

  • Obama is stupid...

  • Wow. You clearly have little comprehension of Biology. You seem to doubt the fact that even certain animals in their natural habitat have been known to display homosexual acts. The fact remains that while variations like skin color and race are determined by the parents, these traits are contained in lines of genetic code. It's literally impossible for two members of the same race to produce offspring of a different one.

  • Homosexuality isn't caused by a "lost" gene, but rather another (much smaller) variation in genetic code (DNA). Homosexuality has been documented all throughout human history, despite the violent prejudice they faced. If this was simply a "curable behavior" then homosexuality wouldn't exist today. Welcome to the 21st century. Scientists don't "vote" on social issues, they study the reasoning and physical meaning behind social phenomena. Get a college degree and then get back to me.

  • Some religious people turn to threat and violence whenever they don't agree on something. Religion can be very dangerous. Many wars have been based on religion.

  • @tkathryyn

Some anti-religious people tend to speak even dumber than the rest of the anti-religious people!

  • @Chuichupachichi the way you debate sounds like you are a little boy

  • Would the catholic charities also request the right to deny gay hobos food at their soup kitchens ? or request that gay people be prohibited from entering their shelters ?? If they would like the right to discriminate legalized, why stop at just benefits for same sex couples ? or gay adoption ? the unabashed bigots that they are should also insist that they have the right to deny gay people the right to breathe the air around their churches or enter any buildings owned by catholics.

  • @pondy107

    {Would the catholic charities also request the right to deny gay hobos food at their soup kitchens ? or request that gay people be prohibited from entering their shelters?}

Oh boy, I don't know which is dumber... the comment I read before yours, or yours? There you are, intending to make Catholic Charities look bad... so what do you do? You begin by listing the good things that they do. But you didn't mind because you thought that you had the hook that would nullify it all. Guess what

  • @Chuichupachichi - it's heartening to see that the catholics don't want to kill the gays. They just don't want them to live happily. About this bizarre quote -

"However, at Christmas time, they do discriminate against homosexuality. They don't give naked Ken dolls to little boys." - That isn't discrimination against gays, genius, that's just plain common sense. No gay parent in his right mind would buy nude dolls for his children for christmas.

  • @Chuichupachichi - And about gay adoption, I would like to know if they would check if the parents are atheists, muslims, adulterers, gluttons, lechers, divorcees who are now remarried, embezzlers, porn watchers or alcoholics too before letting them adopt children - these are immoral too.. why discriminate against the gays alone ? That's where the unblushing bigotry rears it's ugly head.

  • @Chuichupachichi - The biggest charities in the world, nobody does better on abortion & they built many orphanages & hospitals across the country... the world actually! - If all that comes at the expense of discrimination against ANYONE, be it the blacks (in the 1960s nobody would dream of letting a black couple adopt a white orphan !! Racist and bigoted White pricks ) or the gays, they deserve to have their adoption centers SHUT DOWN. Discriminating against minorities is unacceptable.

  • @Chuichupachichi -

"But you have no room to speak... Satan loves Fagotry!" - The only people that satan loves more than Fags are haters... such as yourself... So.. I guess I'll see you in hell...

  • genius, in the soup kitchens, they don't care what your sexual corruption may be... they figure that hungry people aren't going to have sex with their food anyway. Also, people that are facing the possibility of freezing to death or being rained upon, aren't much of a sexual threat to a cot & a blanket. However, at Christmas time, they do discriminate against homosexuality. They don't give naked Ken dolls to little boys.

If you're going to speak against the Catholic Church, at least speak of

  • something, of which, someone should speak against. They are a rather strange institution. That, one can discern simply from the "candle of the hands". Or from St. Chango aka "St. Simian Selection of the Tree Descention". But mostly their strange because they have a mixture of good & bad people. You can say the institution itself, has a "Jeckle & Hyde" condition. When they're good, they're the best. The biggest charities in the world, nobody does better on abortion & they built many orphanages &

  • hospitals across the country... the world actually! But when they're bad... ahi yai yai, are they bad. Basically, it doesn't get any worse. Whoever is in the office of Pope... is the Anti-Christ. Their own archived documents are filled with accounts from Cardinals & Bishops saying that one Pope or another was the most wicked man in the entire society. They don't even bother to hide it. "Anti" is Greek & means "in place of". But the same word in Latin is "Vicar". Thus, "Vicar of Christ" is

  • Anti-Christ. Although throughout the years, Cardinals, Bishops & others may have had their own pet projects that they initiated, there was one that was always exclusively the Pope's baby through & through... the Psycho Inquisition. But this is not Catholic bashing... why hell, they're own Chief Exorcist said that Satan lives in the Vatican. I would think its safe to say that few are better qualified for detecting the presence of Satan. But you have no room to speak... Satan loves Fagotry!

  • The Knights of Columbus is a Roman Catholic disease!

  • That guy IS NOT a practicing Catholic. A complete lie.

  • I'm sure the anti-gay religious right will refer to this in future anti-gay propaganda that claims gay rights impede religious rights. And of course, they'll allude to it in vague terms, not explaining that Catholic Charities relies heavily on public funds, and therefore is subject to the law.

  • Attention queers: you are NOT a monotreme. Wise up and repent.

  • Monotreme? Please elaborate on why you chose to use that word. Furthermore, don't tell educated people to believe your fairytales. Gay people need not repent. Their existence is a natural occurence in our species and others. Even monotremes.

  • A monotreme is an animal whos vagina and anus are one and the same, and evidently homos believe this is the case for primates as well. BIOLOGY FAIL. And the "homosexual" behavoir observed in nature is really "conflict resolution " and "alliance formation", and not what you think it is; another BIOLOGY FAIL.

    --------------

Homos MUST repent or pay the penalty of spiritual death aka Hell.

  • attention religious people: god is not real

wake up and realize the truth

  • I'm very torn on this issue. Even though I am not a fan of the catholics, I recognize their massive charity work. I'm all for gay rights, but I also know they won't pick up where the Catholics may leave off. There needs to be a middle ground. I don't think the church should be forced to give same sex benefits. Religion is voluntary, if they don't want you ...don't attend. Find a church that does respect you.

  • If they want to receive public funding, they have to abide by the laws.

  • I am honestly ashamed to be catholic if this is the way they treat homosexuals. How does it matter that two men or women get married? We are all made in God's image, and no amount of old testament writing makes that untrue. Nobody "chooses" to be homosexual, they are born with attractions to the same sex, this has been researched by many psychologists. There is no legitimate reason to deny homosexuals their right to marriage

  • @kevbo006

    {We are all made in God's image, and no amount of old testament writing makes that untrue}

WOW! The further one gets down this column of comments, the more brilliant things get. I get a strange feeling that all Christians would agree with you on that one.

    {Nobody "chooses" to be homosexual, they are born with attractions to the same sex, this has been researched by many psychologists}

Certainly, and the path taken by Psychologists which lead to that discovery, would have started

  • at the point in which they no longer considered Homosexuality to be a disorder. Its amazing how Psychologists cured all the world's gays from 1 day to the next. For 1 day they were all mentally defective, then the very next day they weren't. Thats what exceptional scientists can do when they properly & stringently apply the scientific method of "voting". Otherwise, gays would have had to of undergone the long, slow process of having illness spoken into remission!

But since people are born gay

  • & we know that the only thing that determines one's entire composition are genes. Also, since homosexuality is a behavior, then that means that the world's geneticists are going to have to once again conduct the "Human Genome Project" because they didn't locate the "behavior genes". They better go back & find them cuz I don't know how they could have missed so many genes. Think about it, if there's a gene for 1 behavior, then there must be a gene for every behavior. How many human behaviors are

  • there? Its not my job to count them but I know there's way more lost genes than there are found ones. Either that or Biological Psychology is even more ridiculous than is Psychotherapy! oops, I wasn't supposed to blow the cover for the new version of Eugenics! Sorry Eugenicists... "Psychos"!

But we know gays are born gay because of lost genes & because every person that has ever become gay, was a product of the heterosexual act. Lost genes do that. Its not impossible. Its simply the equivalent

  • of Blacks reproducing with only Blacks for many generations & then one day, they'll have a white, blond haired, blue eyed baby. But its a good thing that Eddie Murphy didn't have one of those babies because after all that talk about getting a butt naked Zebra woman, can you imagine if he would have paid all that money, simply to get a baby that didn't even come with a paint job? He would have gotten ripped off

  • WOW!! talk about over-reacting!!! the church in this case is a jackass!! I hope this bill got passed.

  • why is he pushing it onto the government decision YOU are sayign ur pullign otu dotn make it based on prob 8 thats jsut childish

also are u s judgemental ( which catholic also teachs u not to be) of people sexual orentiation that ur willign to abandon the poor, meek, and suffering poor?

people have done a good job fucking up the world where its more about hate than love

  • I'm Catholic but wtf is wrong with our church????

    Separation of church and state.

  • Comment removed

  • When I think of Christ, I think of universal love. I don't understand how this church is representative of what Christ stood for when they would make people suffer because of gay marriage. What kind of shit is that?

  • @odzfynestwork

You want to see Christ through your Homosexual goggles instead of seeing him as he truly is.

Open your Gay eyes and stop thinking like a Queer. All of that man on man dick sucking and man on man ass fucking has caused you to think like a retard.

  • You are a relig. pyscho who is criticizing ppl on youtube as if you are God. You are not god, and you most certaintly don't speak to him b.c if you did he would inform you that you are an evil hateful person. BTW you r the fkn pervert talkn about dick sucking and ass fucking, nobody else here talkn about that shit except u and all other homophobes....hmmm strange, huh?

  • r0bl84

The root situation which is your agenda as a Homosexual is to engage in man on man dick sucking and ass fucking with impugnity.

The Catholic church will never place an impressionable innocent child into the homes of ASS FUCKERS like you. Go to HELL you filthy SODOMITE.

  • lmfao! I'll go to Hell and you can go to ur fucked up Heaven w child pedofile priests, in the closet homophobes from youtube and other blogs, and relig. nutcases like you....trust me hunnie I DONT WANNA GO TO WHERE YOU ARE GOING!!! And homosexuality isn't about sex, it's about love....is love defined by you as SEX? Ask yourself that b/c it sounds like it to me.....pervert.

  • r0bl84

Listen up FAG, HOMO = Same, SEXUAL= Sex activity, So Homosexuality is about sex not Love.

Another thing, Dumb Ass Fag, pedofile priest don't go to Heaven they go to hell with you.

Bitch don't call me "Hunnie" you dirty FAG.

  • Ignorance is bliss.

  • @r0bl84

I would expect a Homosexual such as yourself to consider having your rectal walls stretched to the limits by a penis to be considered bliss for your type rather than just your ignorance.

  • videosRfun: you are way out of line. You're selfishly getting repulsed and abusing people Jesus told you to be compassionate toward and treat with dignity. How many gay people have so-called Christians kept from Him with that dehumanizing word "fag"?

  • @DalisYT

The thing which keeps Homosexuals from God is their refusal to stop engaging in Homosexual activity.

You can't have both Homosexual activity and a relationship with God, choose one or the other.

If you think that you can have both, then you are deceiving yourself.

  • VideosRfun:

you are gay. seriously dood come out of the closet...

that was the most homo erotic thing I have ever read on youtube.

why r closet cases like urself SO angry?

  • @r0bl84

What are you saying??? That you were Homosexually excited upon hearing about rectums being stretched???

    You really are GAY.

  • ur a bird.

    nuff said.

    peace.

  • You're a FAG

  • im crying, stop, ur so offensive.

  • for some1 thats so offended by fags u sure have some gay ass fkn favorites in ur videos...alanis morriset? rihanna? BEYONCE? hahaha im a fag but ur a fkn little bitch

  • open your eyes and think on your own

    religion is wrong

  • wow come down who cares if gays wanna get married seriously how does it affect us?

geez christain people are such retards

  • @shiv604

You say Christian people are retards but the facts points to Gays, Lesbians, Trannsexuals, Bisexuals, and Queers as being the RETARDS of society.

All you people do is wine like the devious, unethical, perverted bitches that you are. Perverts should not be allowed to adopt children.

  • dude i am not gay i just think gay people should be allowed to do whatever they want

and really in what aspect are they considered perverted

  • @shiv604

If it looks Gay, acts Gay and has a Gay agenda it's Gay.

    You're GAY.

  • lol what are you five?

im perfectly fine with my sexuality.

im not gay but if i was it shouldn't matter.

you have a lot of growing up to do, jackass.

  • Why are religious people so bothered by what other people's do with their genitalia ?

  • bigboss025: I can't speak for religious people, just me. I'm also gay, so I'm hardly "bothered". In fact, said behavior makes sense in that I understand the motivation. I think that as God's children treating ourselves with dignity has to mean more then getting off, but that's between you and God. I'm not perfect either. What's more problematic to me is what people may do to justify to the world what they're doing with their genitalia. See comments below.

  • She said Catholic Charities pull out. Sounds Catholic to me

  • Ha!

  • Can someone give me some thumb ups please?

  • ok so a child has to go on without parents because of fundamentalist christian bigotry?

  • Well.. No they would still be able to get parents, just they will have to go somewhere else.. Since the Catholic Charities wont give the children to the gay parents.

  • Chamerlengo: Not at all. An adoption agency isn't a baby supermarket where prospective parents shop for a child. None of us - gay or straight - are entitled to other people's biological children. Adoption is a privilege, and the needs of the child matter above absolutely anything else. While the state, on the advice of psychological study, may rule that gay parents can provide kids' material and emotional needs, CC can't conscientiously deny a child in their care a mother or father.

  • Churches shouldn't be getting tax dollars in the first place.

THAT IS WAY WRONG! SHOULDN'T HAPPEN!

  • how come

  • If "religious freedom" means the constraining of the liberty of others, then fuck "religious freedom"

its a logical fallacy to suggest that these people will not have freedom of religion if gays get married....

gay marriage does not prevent them from worshipping...

gay marriage does not curtail the liberty of others...

but this so called "religious freedom" certainly does curtail the liberty of others...and that liberty should take precedence over religious nonsense

  • EnhancementSmoker: the principle of separation of church and state works two ways for the insurance of freedom of religion and freedom from religion. One religion cannot dictate to all others and the government cannot tell any religion what its doctrine must me. In this case, the Catholic Church won't be able in the future to take public money and civil contracts. As such, people will suffer. That does not mean that religious people have to be banned from the public square. We have rights too.

  • are you serious?

    Leviticus 18:22

    Leviticus 20:13

    Corinthians 6:9-11

im sure ur aware of this...if not it would be a pity to have to teach you what you claim to believe in

the catholic church not being "able" to do something is a choice...not a decree. wont be able to take public money and contracts? what does that mean and why should they even get public money in the first place?

im not saying religious people should be banned...but i am sayin they should hinder others liberty

  • EnhancementSmoker: no, I just didn't feel like getting up to grab my Bible. Thanks. Besides, you're telling me what my own religion says. Come prepared.

Yes, Jesus said that (John 14:15, Matthew 5:17). St. Paul then resolved this issue of Mosaic Law as applied to Gentiles with the Apostolic Decree. That's why Christian boys don't have to be circumcised (Acts 15:19-21). Leviticus, Acts, Corinthians, Romans all refer to sexual ACTS, not sexual orientation. Thus, GLBT Christians are to abstain.

  • so you are a homosexual...but abstain from sex because you are a christian?

so you actually think that the thoughts that you have are "detestable" in the eyes of god. and doesnt god punish/condemn you for improper thoughts as well?

  • EnhancementSmoker: Yes, yes and no. Let's have a mutual understanding of what sin actually is. Many thoughts that human beings have - gay or straight - are detestable (yes, detestable) and ought not to be acted upon, if they do not come from love but selfish motivation, not because some cartoon god is going to lob thunderbolts at you, but because they actually cause harm to yourself or others. They divide you from God, that is, from love. Love is never wrong, but you have to ask if it's love.

  • and im not trying to be confrontational...

im genuinely interested as to how you square your beliefs with the fact that you are gay...

  • and remember, jesus said that every "jot and tittle" of the old testament law is to be followed...

  • Geeze, now the church is attempting to blackmail DC... Well i for one don't want your bigotry affecting public policy!

  • Oh knock it off! What, are you 12?

  • LOL! And us niggas will continue to deny you faggot fucks the priviledges & benefits we currently have you cock suckin fudgepackin queer son of a bitch! LMAO!

  • You just described homosexuals perfectly! Thanks cocksucker!

  • that's why black men and woman are infected with HIV more than homosexuals right? b/c u undercover homo thugs that lurke and hate on youtube go out and have sex w/ each other and bring it back to ur nasty ass skeezas and have unprotected sex and multiple babies and live off the system.

    you=dirty monkey

  • LMAO! You hate the fact that you are a dick sucker! LOL!

  • I know your daddy is proud of his lil cum sucker if he hadn't already disowned ur faggot ass!

  • LOL! Superior! You faggot fucks are still fightin for acceptance you dumbass! LOL! You will NEVER be accepted in society! LOL! Faggot!

  • I'm not fighting for acceptence, I live in NY and have never had a problem with being gay. I come from a good family and I own 2 businesses that I work myself. I don't even need to meet you to kno that I am superior to you. = )

now run along and collect your wel fare that u'll probably use on drugs or getting laid by some crack ass nigga

  • You are a waste of life. Pathetic.

  • Nah, I contribute to society....

    unlike.........

    ya whole generationnn niggaaaa

  • Ok fag!

  • He is not a practicing Catholic if he is practicing Homosexuality.

  • Correct

  • k monkey!

  • LMAO!

  • Seperation of church and state, bible thumpers. Consitiution was written for a reason. Fuck the church. Its called dictation. Dictators always fall you nazi fuck ups. the church learned nothing from their man jesus. Jesus is sad by their judgemental exclusion of others.

  • And after only 87 whopping posts we have our first invocation of the Nazis. Happy Godwin's Law everybody!

  • so, because the catholic church wants to be a bunch of hating bigots, they think they and their followers are immune from the constitution of the united states.

all other people must follow the constitution, but christians do not have to. what utter bullshit.

it's not about freedom of religion, it's about discrminiation and hate.

  • christians wrote the constitution.you christian hating bigot

  • I'm a Texas Catholic.

Even though Texas has been considered a Conservative state we have such a tremendous surplus of children waiting to be adopted that we've allowed gay couples to adopt for a good while.

I do not, however, believe the Catholic Church should be forced to do gay marriages...there are other churches which will gladly perform them.

  • what rubbish! if that is where catholic charities CHOOSES to draw the line in the sand, then they've already lost the battle and can eventually kiss all their contracts away. but this jerk is just posing. in the end, they'll concede and draw another line. meanwhile, the people they supposedly serve continue to lose faith in them. religious freedom? how does that stack up to basic human rights guaranteed to everyone except gay people?

  • IMAGINE removed from a March 26, 2004 letter by Theodoe McCarrick, Archbishop of Washington ...

"Our faith teaches that the moral measure of our society is how we treat the least among us. (Mt. 25). Welfare policies should be judged on the basis of their effectiveness in alleviating the poverty of our sisters and brothers and in helping their families to live in dignity. We look forward to working with Congress to achieve these goals."

  • IMAGINE if the second sentence read... Policies should be judged on their effectiveness in assisting our brothers and sisters and in the hopes of helping their families to live in dignity.

    Hmm...

  • This is just another fine exampel of a religion telling people "You will obey and do as we say, or else".

Control by religion? Oh hell yes, religion doing best what it has allways done. CONTROL through FEAR !!!

  • This is the Catholic Church's trump card: Either 86 the gays or we'll pack up our toys and go home. "Think of the real life people who may be hurt because of the actions that are taken." Um, ok, except the gays, right? Because you don't give a shit about them. Thanks for making that so clear.

  • SeparateisntEqual: I hope you understand that this will all be a moot point when Congress vetoes Washington's same-sex marriage bill since it doesn't actually have state sovereignty and Congress can't (more like won't) sign off on a bill that conflicts with its own DOMA.

The Church views gay issues this way: they will feed you, clothe, shelter, educate, counsel, find you a job, get you off drugs, etc. etc. But they will not recognize a union they believe places its partners in mortal peril.

  • @DalisYT As you said: the secular world has changed the church hasn't: it still clings to it's outdated discriminatory policies. Good luck with that. Mortal Peril?- Explain. All those lovely things the church does - feed, clothe, educate, etc. They don't have the capability to do that without public funds, because the mother church is sitting on her billions. There are plenty of agencies that could be formed by existing professionals in non-profits who would be happy to serve the entire public.

  • SeparatieisntEqual: Yes, cut off the public funds; I've said I agree with that. Catholic Charities, Catholic Relief Services, etc. will continue. Yes, there are plenty of non-profits that would be formed, but they can form now too. Where are they? Let's have them now.

Mortal peril: Read JPII's Theology of the Body. Lust is a deadly sin. The Church doesn't think people in sexual relationships outside holy matrimony are acting out of chaste love, since their sex isn't life-giving.

  • (continued) Please understand that homosexuality is a major issue in Catholic theology right now. The Catechism devotes a whopping three paragraphs to it. There are many GLBT Catholics (I'm one) who are regularly told by some in the Church and in the gay rights movement that they have to choose sides - between living within their faith without guidance of how to do that and someone else's idea of sexual liberation. I don't want 68,000 people to go hungry over my sexuality either.

  • im interested to know how you can have faith in something that says ur evil and should be killed...

do you just disregard that part of the bible?

  • Chapter and verse? EnhancementSmoker

  • Liberals are against freedom of religion when it comes to Christianity.

  • No, liberals are against religions pushing their doctrine onto the public.

Religion should be a personal belief, but your freedom to practice it ends where it violates my freedoms.

Equal rights and non-segregation are supposed to be cornerstones of the US freedom.

We fought hard to make us as free as we are today, blacks, chinese, etc...

Christians want to keep segregation for homosexuals and push their doctrine onto them.

  • how about 1st amendement, seperation church and state

  • How about freedom of religion? Liberals are so concerned about separation of church and state, yet they won't touch Islam in public schools.

  • What about Islam in public schools?

I havent even heard of any issues regarding them yet.

  • i would just love for you stoogewatcher to, for once, use logic and fact in your statements.

you know you're a FAIL when you spout lies and misconceptions in the name of "christianity" what's the matter, don't you like truth???

  • Don't worry. 500 years from now, the catholic church will apologize and acknowledge they were wrong on this issue.

  • Simple - stop taking federal money and start paying taxes. Religion and the Cathholic Chruch especially, personify what it is to have your cake and eat it too. Disgusting they would hold poor people up as a shield to get their bigoted way.

  • hollygolightly66: that's a rather slanted way of viewing this issue. The archdiocese is saying that they want to continue their services (and I think they will in some form or another), but that the law will force them to betray Catholic teachings. We as a country don't go tell Jews to eat pork or Buddhists to step on bugs. It's pretty audacious to say, please take care of our social services for us but leave your Catholicism at the door first. Ending the contracts will resolve this.

  • So in your mind marriage equality for the LGBT community is equivalent to forcing a Jew to eat pork? And I'm the one with a slanted view? Religious freedom means that entire communities should not have to conduct their lives according to the doctrines of one church. The Catholic church doesn't seem to want to adhere to religous freedom for those not in their congregation. If they want to put restrict the freedom of others then no they shouldn't get federal money or tax exemptions.

  • hollygolightly66: Equivalent in scale? not at all, but equivalent in principle, sure. I'm simply saying that the government may not under our constitution dictate to the Catholic Church who they may regard as married couples because the Catholicism already has a very clear teaching on sacramental marriage. It does not consider any civil contract as "equal" to this bond. Civil marriage is a relatively recent social construct, and the Church thinks it's sinning by honoring any they wouldn't bless.

  • Nobody is forcing them to accept federal funds thus they aren't being forced to accept civil unions. If they want secular money then they have to accept secular rules. Besides with their hypocrisy of marriage, pedophile priests, celibacy and all the rest they aren't on very solid ground when it comes to judging the morals of others.

  • hollygolightly66: I agree that there are rules associated with accepting public money, and so, because those conflict with Catholic teaching, they have to sever those contracts and consequently, people will suffer. Catholic Charities is the second largest social service provider in the U.S. after the Fed. I have to take exception with those who nitpick how they do it. It's the "secular rules" that are changing; the Church hasn't.

I agree about hypocrisy, but what's your issue with celibacy?

  • If I was the Washington City Council - I would be looking to terminate the Catholic Churches social work contracts with the city as if they pull a stunt like this now - there is a danger of them doing it again. No thank you. The church does not seem to separate its various services from each other like withdrawing from adoption services while retaining their help to the poor. No to blackmail and no to bigots.

  • @johncrwarner

Exactly. There are plenty of other charities like the United Way that could take up the slack on social services.

  • We have an old saying that says, don't look a gift horse in the mouth. The poor have been there, but what have you done for them? Wait for one organization or another to do the grunt work?

  • The only bigots are the ones attacking the Catholic Church.

  • Too bad the church attacked first.

Though you fail at knowing what bigot means.

    This started in this sequence.

Homosexuals wanted to get married for equal legal rights and for the symbolism.

No attack on the church. Most states wont even allow judges to marry them, and how are judges affecting the church by marrying people?

So the church attacks homosexuals in the name of their god.

I believe its the church obsessed with attacking another group, not the homosexuals

  • @StoogeWatcher

So you think that threatening to drop their contractual agreement to take taxpayers' money to feed the poor and house the homeless because they think they can get political mileage out of it is acceptable then?

  • I actually see both sides to this, as hard as that is to fathom. I don't want to see civil law controverted or church leaders betray their consciences. The only solution I see is to dissolve those government contracts that come into conflict. That doesn't mean that they can't offer social services, just on a non-contractual basis.

  • I once thought the way you are thinking for 5 mins until I realized that they benefit from gays paying taxes.

  • You take public money, you follow public laws. Pretty simple guys. The threats and equivocation are disgusting.

And didn't Jeebus say something about rendering unto Caesar what is Caesar's?

  • Actually when you say catholic church, remember that this is the DC branch, alot of others like the one in San Antonio would not do this.. I mean we would for abortion since thats murder, but for gay marriage not so much.

  • If the Catholic Church is going to pull these kinds of ridiculous, cruel stunts to influence politics in this nation, they should lose their tax-exempt status.

  • And yet you want tax exemption for Satanists and the ACLU.

  • Did he actually say he wants tax exempt status for those 2 groups?

Though I would like to see proof that satanists actually have tax exempt status.

In fact, donations to ACLU arent tax deductable I hear because they also have a decent lobbying group.

  • Did I say that? No, I didn't. I simply believe that any religious organization that doesn't have to pay taxes in return for not directly influencing government policies should STICK TO THAT DEAL or forfeit their tax-exempt status. It's only right.

  • Think of the real life people who are hurt if this action is not taken.

  • This isn't Catholic Church against gays. This is Catholic Church against everyone else. It's saying that the citizens cannot pass their own laws, without approval from them.

  • Agreed. And I would love to see the Catholic Church sued out of existence. And why on earth does CNN give such credence to a Catholic Priest?

  • kd1s: want to know what's motivating the Church, ask a priest. It's pretty simple journalism.

Answer me this question, if you don't mind. I'm a practicing Catholic; how would one "sue out of existence" the Catholic Church, when there are 72 million self-identifying Catholics in this country? As much as it might please you for all of us to decide to change our minds, we have rights too.

  • This was not journalism. This was giving one side a platform to fearmonger and blackmail the D.C. Council.

Notice that the priest could not come up with one example HOW this legislation would threaten the church. Only fearmongering it "could".

Wolf did not call him out on that. Somebody from the other side would have called them out on that immediately.

  • We don't care what your opinions are, or what your religion is. But there are these magical words called "separation of church and state", and the CC has a history of completely disregarding that. This isn't the Vatican or historical Europe where the church = (or even >) state.

I don't need to ask a priest to figure out what's motivating the church-- it's hate. Their hate of gays is simply stronger than their empathy for the suffering. I'm pretty sure that this is NOT what Jesus would do.

  • limonade09: perhaps you might benefit from more dialogue with Catholics then - because you only presume the Church is about hate. If you respected those who believe differently from yourself, you'd understand that. Step back and think. Some religions call gays an abomination; the Church calls us children of God. That doesn't mean that everyone is ideally suited to get married or raise children. The Catholic Church feels spiritually responsible for the kids they adopt out and their employees.

  • To clarify: Catholicism teaches that while many people - gay or straight - can raise children well in every material and emotional sense, the Church must, out of a duty to sacramental marriage, place the children in its care in households where they will have a mother and father who are Catholics in good standing so they will be baptized and raised Catholic. With employee benefits, it's a different situation. They basically don't want to pay for a partner they don't recognize as a spouse.

  • ...Hmm, that makes me wonder if they've adopted out kids to non-Catholic straight married couples, cohabiting couples, or single people. Another consideration is the wishes of birth parents. The Church forbids Catholics to abort their children but also recognizes that even if one isn't in a position to raise a child themselves, they are responsible to ensure that the kids will be in communion in their new homes. I wonder if they respect these similar wishes for non-Catholic birth parents.

  • I also have to wonder why a homosexual person in a sexual relationship would go to work for a religious organization that views the nature of their partnership as sinful and doesn't recognize their civil marriage in any spiritual sense. Gay Catholics who go to work for Catholic Charities would already know Catholic teachings. I wonder however, can or do non-Catholics work for Catholic Charities? Is there some kind of honor code for Catholic Charities employees like there is for school teachers?

  • The irony of your statement is: I was RAISED Catholic for 18 years.

"Step back and think" Good advice! You should take it ;P

  • What a cop-out to presuppose that those who disagree with you don't think for themselves.

  • Where did you get that assumption? All I said is that you're being a hypocrite and not taking your own advice.

I have a lot of friends who are cathlolics. My *parents* are catholics. I tolerate the faith, even if I don't agree with it, and even if that toleration is not mutual.

  • Don't you liberals believe in the First Amendment, something called Freedom of Religion.

  • Read the founders documents. They meant free to personally believe what you want, but most felt that religion was a personal issue and not to be imposed on others since that affected the rights of others to have their own beliefs.

They tried hard to limit the imposition of ones beliefs onto anothers since many of our early settlers ran specifically from discrimination by other denominations imposing, like the christians of today are trying to do on the homosexuals.

  • um.... what??? there is a separation of church and state isn't there it didn't just go away without me knowing right??? and isn't there in the Bible scriptures that say love thy neighbor as thyself and that means EVERY neighbor doesn't matter about if they are criminals, poor, gay or whatever??? This entire factor just makes me so sad

  • Just like a school canceling prom because of the attendance of a same-sex couple. Let's make others suffer because some people would like to get along. I'm SOOO ashamed that I was raised Catholic. It's okay, I'm all better now!
