to freeminded4ever: I could not have said it better, best comment so far. I´m from Germany and used to look up to the US, especially after the war. But look nat them now, very sad to see!
I've watched every George Carlin HBO, I've seen all of his interviews (I think), I've heard Napalm and Silly Putty and When Will Jesus Bring The Pork Chops (7 hours of straight comedy, look it up).
I bought a black truck and I wear almost all black. You know why? It was George's favorite color.
To say that George Carlin has changed my life would be an understatement. He's the first individual I can truly relate to, or at least the first bold enough to make that impression. RIP to a great man.
Man, I love George. I'm sure his candor is offputting to many, but just look at the modesty of this man in his twilight. "Comedy in the last third of the 20th century would have to include me." Are you kidding me? I will be forcing my children to watch and listen to his material when it is absolutely inappropriate for their age. George would be a great speaker and thinker without being a brilliant comedian. What a treat, and he was just here a minute ago?
What a good man. I wish I would have seen him. Too late, too late. I love that other interview from him- just saw it- about being privileged as humans and squandering everything. So true, to true. The idea of the spirit running into the strong arm of material limits. And also just being stupid and horrible throughout history. Hating on everyone. Curse the media- long live Carlin. Kick him in the nuts someone told me one time.
He was definately to hip for the room. The sad part is there's really no one to pass the torch to ... at least no one with the same gravitas and quicksilver intellect. Goddamn I miss George Carlin.
It`s kinda ironic that todays best philosophers have to be comedians. It`s like in the middle ages...only the mad or the clowns can offer truth because all the other guys aren`t allowed.
Mr. Carlin you won`t be just remembered as a footnote of comedy in america but as a true heroe that fought the law.
A true american, honest, im from the u.k but its good to know there is americans that think, lol with all due respect, America was the envy of the world, then the elite took it over, the flame of hope was extinguished from the world, reclaim your rights, the spirit is strong but the mind is constantly under attack, fear is a great mind bender, im am sad such a great man has left us, he was a mirror, showing the truth, bet the puppet masters hated him alot
In many cultures, the elders are well respected by the younger members of a given society who look to them for education and guidance. However, we Americans don't seem to follow suit with this theory. I do believe that it's time to initiate this practice, and we can begin with George Carlin...a man who could make you laugh your ass off, and teach you about life in the process. Wow...fun and educational! Whooda thunk?
This era needs George Carlin more than any other. His absence is a void in this world. I have been thinking it for a while, but i'm going to take his advice and write down all my thoughts. I hope one day I can be one millionth of the comedian he is.
People shouldn't judge George if he was religious or not. I am a religious man, and I loved him as much as anyone did. Great human being. Felt so sad when he died. Even though he didn't believe in God, I'd like to say God bless his soul.
Among the many things I liked about George Carlin I also really admired how down to earth and nice he was. I mean, you can see that he has a good understanding of his ability and what he's contributed but there's no arrogance. He's very engaging to the interviewer. Just a very affable guy.
Gotta love this guy! He was the one true genious of out time. Truly the mind of this millennia! If you ain't atheist yet... your son WILL BE!!! Just the matter of time. HA HA HA!!!! Viva la humour and science!
No one will ever come close to comparing with George Carlin...his mind was simply imazing, he remembered everything!!! a truly brilliant man! and like Lifeis a Glitch said...Man, I miss this motherfucker!!!!!!!
Carlin is the best Catholic ever. period. also, include all other religions... he is just the best. He could have made anything funny and close. Because religion is BULL SHIT!!!!
I often reference George's thoughts and observations on everyday life when the need arises. His comments made, and still make so much sense in a world that seems to be more complicated each year that passes.
So many times we need a good dose of Carlin Common Sense!
For an inteligente guy, he was very ignorant about christianity. They say not to judge unless you know all the facts of what your judging and he didn't know all the facts yet he said his bullshit about it. That is even more funny to me. He i a funny guy. I wonder where he is in the afterlife. haha
@sayhellotogoodbye Well he could spell so maybe you don't want to compare your intelligence to his. Also, Christ attacked the cruel, the mean and shallow bullies which means that Carlin will be welcomed in Heaven a long time before you
@sayhellotogoodbye That is his point. People believe in their religions based on no facts, and he loved to point that out. You can't say he "had no facts" that there is no god, etc.. There are no facts that god definitely exists, therefor, you dont need to prove he doesn't exist.
I miss him :( ... He was the most brilliant man I've ever laid eyes on and listened to. If he were here now he could tell me to "Shut the fuck up, I don't care if your 20 and sad about life, get over it."
I seen him twice. The last time was about 13 months before he died. He was swolen, his hands were shaking and he had to read much of his material but you know what? He had me GASPING for air! It was the closest I have come to pissing my pants in public since I was 3! He was without a doubt the best in the buisness.
@smoothboner.......I don't know about that....Larry Fine's interview was spectacular, especially considering that he was still suffering the effects of a stroke.
He was one of those guys who I just thought would be around forever...his work not only made me laugh hysterically..but think differently. The eternal advocate of free thinking and questioning everything...george..you will be missed...
Eh, he'll live on forever, there's no use mourning his death, better to celebrate his life. Amazing comedian, he opened a lot of eyes and I'm sure he will for years to come, no matter where he is ( Though I like to think he's somewhere in the sun, hanging with Joe Pesche.)
I've listened to George since I was 12. I'm 30 now. He is like the crazy uncle who cracked me up with his sarcasm, cynicism, truth and fart jokes. When life gets a little crazy, I find myself wondering what he would think of the situation. Even though nothing specific comes to mind it still makes me smile to remember the good times laughing at Toledo Window Box, Class Clown and the others. All on cassette mind you! We didn't have Youtube back then! lol
George Carlin, funniest comedian ever and wises sage ever. He lit the candels of free thinking in minds all over the world. I love you George. How I wish you were still with us.
When I heard of George's passing, I felt like I had lost an old friend. Thanks for all the laughter and words of wisdom over the years George.
George's take on religion almost makes the tragedy that lies in its wake justifiable. We live in a time now w/ a lot more connected intelligent people afoot & it won't be long until the retarded religious nut-jobs will be outnumbered and we can finally get down to business.
That's it, I'm going to get back into comedy and keep our Carlinian beliefs alive.
The next time somebody asks me that dumb question about having dinner with 3 people from history I'm going to slip George into Jesus' seat.
wow, the ending about how he wants to be remembered. in that section you KNOW he was a great person. and hearing his thoughts on begginer comedians just made me decide to try it. remember folks if you dont laugh at my jokes its YOUR fault ha ha . his work was truly that of a master. Space beyond the magnetosphere is even less hospitable to organisms. Interplanetary voyages remain as fantasies until the problem of cosmic radiation is seriously addressed.
"The Room" is a comedian's term for the place they play. The nightclub (or comedy club nowadays), generally. He's speaking figuratively of course. Lenny Bruce always talked about "the room".
A conjecture does not meet the definition of the word "science" whose derivation is fr. the Latin verb "scire" meaning "to know." To suppose, theorize, guess, as had Darwin & his boot-licks, is not scientific. Darwinism is a relic of the 19th century. It fills a religious void in the warped minds of Western-Civilization-destroying "atheists."
With all due respect, we do not know anything by your definition. Whole knowledge base we accumulated through the centuries is an assumption, based on another assumption, and so on.
In fact, according to principles of scientific method, we cannot "prove" anything beyond a shadow of a doubt. Science IS doubt. Best we can do is, based on our current limited understanding of the world, is to make educated guesses.
"To suppose, theorize, guess" is EXACTLY what science does.
Not true. I mean, we absolutelly, 100% KNOW that when you drop an object on Earth, it falls. PROVEN science. I think what you mean is phylisophical and mythilogical things, such as religion.
hdmal: I assume what Carlin meant by "too hip for the room" was that he was "hip to" or "privy to" the truths that most humans are (as of yet) blind to. "The room", I suppose, is the world in this day and age. Kind of a "too cool for school" kind of thing. He was definitely too hip for the room.
George Carlin was a slimy corporate tongue-wagger. He was a part of the problem. He made his money off media cartels. He was no outsider. He advocated infanticide and Marxism.
ahh, i think i know the basis of your insulting comment...i saw the amateur attempts at comedy on your channel...not too shabby, i s'pose, but definitely not even close to carlin-caliber. jealous, perhaps? :P
He never advocated infanticide. If you take the seemingly extreme nature of some of his comedy as sincere, that's unfortunate. As an artist he had the right to sell his labor power, and he did so on HIS terms towards the end, which was honest and noble. As for Marxism...get a life. He never advocated Marxism, and since when is Marxism subversive? Oh yeah, we live in a Capitalist society that has an ethnocentric intolerance of communists.
the way one portrays him/herself through a comment that the individual is making trying to so hard that either they or those that decide to indulge in reading this comment find exaustion, as a result of using words out of context or making as much sense as a caveman applying to an accounting firm for an execuctive positon says to those othe than the simple layman that the person making the said comment should refrain from making comments until they are inteeligent enough to make SOME sense!
Media Cartels? Are you talking about HBO? Yes, they helped him by giving him airtime. But George's comedy ripped on everyone. I certainly don't remember him promoting any corporate "tongue-waggers" or advocating infanticide and Marxism. Your opinion is always welcomed, but you can keep the slander.
Excellent. If you look at Carlin as a whole he was a thinker along the lines of Thoreau. I used to classify him as a libertarian, but that wasn't quite correct. He was more of a libertarian anarcho-capitalist (system) who disliked the ugliness of the existing power-grubbing mixed economy (that is falsely classified as "capitalist"). Props.
The BEST COMIC EVER! He is the greatest! He was true to himself and US! He said it plain and simple, it is what it is! There are those that call them as they see them and that is that, HE was just that! I LOVE him for being him!
But I guess an all around dopey douchebag like you will be in heaven? What a lovely thought. An entire army of arrogant obtuse boring malevolent cunts ... all occupying one space, and they presume to call it "Heaven".
@ShahidMiller wow i scrolled down lookin for a little commentary on hte greatest stand up comic this side of rich pryor and what do i get..the great santa debate. enough bullshit..tell that fucker whats what. btw no god never was. it doesnt take a comedien to say it..he had a nice way to put it though
ya so is everyone who has ever had any fun or any influence, politicians lie and rockstars do drugs, hell is where all the fun is and its nice and warm

In my opinion George Carlin is in the top 10 minds of the 21st century.
He's definitely around 4-5 place. He was just so revolutionary with his anti-religious comedy and Philosophy.
I personal have listen to him ever since i was elementary school.......
Now im 21, and have practically all of my out look's on life based upon his Philosophy.
I wish i could shake his hand just one time and let him know that he freed my mind. And that i am a product of his words.

"The Room" is a comedian's term for the place they play. The nightclub (or comedy club nowadays), generally. He's speaking figuratively of course. Lenny Bruce always talked about "the room".
rkg77 2 years ago
and of course speaking figuratively George's "room" was the planet ;)

Or he proved himself right. In which case he thinks nothing, is nothing, knows nothing and does not exist anymore. Hmm....

AsEasyAsEasyIs 2 years ago
With all due respect, we do not know anything by your definition. Whole knowledge base we accumulated through the centuries is an assumption, based on another assumption, and so on.
In fact, according to principles of scientific method, we cannot "prove" anything beyond a shadow of a doubt. Science IS doubt. Best we can do is, based on our current limited understanding of the world, is to make educated guesses.
"To suppose, theorize, guess" is EXACTLY what science does.
SinOfAugust 2 years ago
Not true. I mean, we absolutelly, 100% KNOW that when you drop an object on Earth, it falls. PROVEN science. I think what you mean is phylisophical and mythilogical things, such as religion.

Can someone please explain the "too hip for the room" thing? thank you.
R.I.P Goerge Carlin. For me you are the greatest.
hdmal 2 years ago 8
hdmal: I assume what Carlin meant by "too hip for the room" was that he was "hip to" or "privy to" the truths that most humans are (as of yet) blind to.

TheManWithTVEyes 2 years ago
ahh, i think i know the basis of your insulting comment...i saw the amateur attempts at comedy on your channel...not too shabby, i s'pose, but definitely not even close to carlin-caliber. jealous, perhaps? :P
rtarbinar 2 years ago
your part of the problem
kjw17384 2 years ago
He never advocated infanticide. If you take the seemingly extreme nature of some of his comedy as sincere, that's unfortunate. As an artist he had the right to sell his labor power, and he did so on HIS terms towards the end, which was honest and noble. As for Marxism...get a life. He never advocated Marxism, and since when is Marxism subversive? Oh yeah, we live in a Capitalist society that has an ethnocentric intolerance of communists.
ShamusMacGuffin 2 years ago
the way one portrays him/herself through a comment that the individual is making trying to so hard that either they or those that decide to indulge in reading this comment find exaustion, as a result of using words out of context or making as much sense as a caveman applying to an accounting firm for an execuctive positon says to those othe than the simple layman that the person making the said comment should refrain from making comments until they are inteeligent enough to make SOME sense!
8keno9 2 years ago
Media Cartels? Are you talking about HBO? Yes, they helped him by giving him airtime. But George's comedy ripped on everyone. I certainly don't remember him promoting any corporate "tongue-waggers" or advocating infanticide and Marxism. Your opinion is always welcomed, but you can keep the slander.
AeroRiley 2 years ago
Yeah if you don't know that George Carlin went after EVERYONE! Anyone that says otherwise does not know his stuff.
mabans 2 years ago
Props.
