  • BWAAAHAHAHAHA! His tone when he says: "Yeah, they seemed a little sharp. I know what you're saying." Fucking brilliant. XD

  • PACC (People Against Cruelty to Cellos) is going to be all up in Mark's shit for this.

  • Hilarious. Haha. And c'mon. Did some people think this was reality? Why would they film him going out into the parking lot to destroy the French horn if it were "real"? And why would the movie put up their website if this wasn't ad space for them? Use your noggin.

  • lol i think that french horn is a little flat now

  • i guess when your name is Mark Mothersbaugh you just do whatever you want and oops just happen to rule at it. ok now i get it.

  • that was a pretty expensive looking cello too

  • Well, I gotta say, the French Horn put up a decent fight.

  • When Mark yells at me, he throws in the F__K word.

For me, this isn't unusual at all.

  • from cello to firewood... from f horn to cor anglais...

to REDPORTIAONE: all music today is FROM classical music. saying classical music sucks you may as well say that all music sucks. and with out classical music, you'd have NO MOVIE scores, no VIDEO game scores and basically NO music whatsoever. so, get some culture you useless creature.

  • was this "Staged"?

  • That's a perfectly good cello! Well...I hope not...

  • @RedPortiaOne, classical music doesn't suck. Fuck you :p

  • I like his way of solving problems.

  • fvcking awesome

  • smashing instruments here is not intended as punk usually did, that is mere destruction ... what's done here is not actually destroying them but "modifying" them ..... ... of course a la Mothersbaugh .. :)

  • I understand I really do -but in my work I get less creative freedom and I just can't afford to act like that. So forgive me if I feel unsympathetic.

  • I just think its hilarious how he's 60 years old and still destroying stuff

  • This is not an appropriate soundtrack for a film called "cloudy with a chance of meatballs"

  • O M G ! What are they doing ! ^^

  • ahaha. dude is awesome.

  • Pete Townsend-eat your heart out!

  • Mothersbaugh acts pissed off but he actually took the guy's advance. In the movie the French horns are gone and it's much more electronic-sounding.

  • That's more or less the Dizzy Gillespie story, too, horn-wise.

  • No more SHARP french horn. Now just totally flat!!!

  • My sweetheart and I saw BORN TO BE FREE at the IMAX tonight, Thursday

14 April 2011. Loved it and loved your Music, Mark. Excellent. Fight on! Ken DelConte, USC Grad

  • You can tell by the look in his eyes. This is a joke

  • Mark!!!!! You are the best drug I've ever had. LOVE YOU!!

  • Mark definitely had a punk flash-back .... in spite of never having been really a punk...

I guess he repented a little after, when he tried to revive then horn .... de-evolution is this , too ...

  • @bugiewugie1234 Umm Mark and DEVO not punks?

  • @rnrbishop yes sure Bishop.. they were mistaken for punks for a long time but their actual background is somewhat different from punk ...punk is about rebellion and refusal of society and conventions.... Devo is something totally different, is opening eyes on what's generally avoided by common human beings .... is realizing accepting the human's status as a puppet ..and realizing that "Rebellion" only turns a puppet into an unaware one ...

  • @bugiewugie1234 You gotta remember that punk is about whatever someone want's it to be about. I think in their own way, Devo was punk. I think they rejected norms just as much as the next "punks". Musically they weren't particularily punky, but in terms of attitude and style, they were punk. Or maybe I'm an idiot and I don't know what I'm talking about.

  • @MrTrty5

You are right...Devo was a punk band. Just like many punk bands of the late 70s who transitioned into New Wave. Blondie is another good example of this transition.

  • @bugiewugie1234

Sorry, dude. Devo was originally a punk band. They are like the band Blondie, who started as punk, but became New Wave. This is a spud talking, I know this band well, big fan.

  • First of all, Mark did not "flip out," as you suggest. It's DRY HUMOR - and the title only serves to cheapen the skit.

  • This is great, but a) he did not "flip out" and b) why give the surprise away in the title? It totally ruins it.

  • This is great, but a) he did not "flip out" and b) why give the surprise away in the title? It totally ruins it.

  • I LOVE this song, its friggin beast and the actors an idiot :)

  • @giantrobot503 Lame.

  • That b flat horn is really flat now

  • Mark Mothersbaugh = Genius and classical music sucks...

    Thats all

  • @RedPortiaOne Booooo.

  • fake. The cello strings woulda snapped and whipped him in the face.

  • @WumWip "fake" hahaha...duh it's not supposed to be real, it's a skit, a joke....

  • @TobeUK

Duh to you too... I was being sarcastic.

  • @WumWip Shut up.

  • @MusicAfterSilence

    Ladies first

  • Whatever.

  • What ensemble is recording the soundtrack?

  • He´s not just a great singer, a great musician or even a great composer.

He DOES ACT and he´s also a GREAT COMEDIAN.

That´s why i´m a great fan of his and his bandmates, since the now distant 1984. I had the GREAT PLEASURE AND HONOR of talking to him over the phone.

I hope DEVO never retires. The world needs them more and more EVERY SINGLE F***ING DAY! ; )

  • Cripes, I never knew he could be an enfant terrible!

  • nice! lol

  • this was staged but he trashed some nice instruments. they didn't look cheap

  • "Too much Cello, not enough Cowbell."

  • What could be more perfect?

  • He just gets more and more epic.

  • HAHAHAHA!!

  • I very definitely disapprove

  • I had no idea they let high school kids direct major motion pictures. Who is this snotnose brat?

  • @JMillerbigass That's Mark Mothersbaugh, founder of DEVO. Recognize!

  • @reichmarshall We are all Devo in a De evolved world. They were so right about De evolution. The BP 'Oil Spill' and the general shape of the world proves it!!

  • this vido is amazing, and crazy

  • ..... he's wearing Alistar Hennessy's glasses....

  • @strokesfan1107

    your RIGHT!

  • Mark knows exactly what to do with a cello.

  • mark ftw

  • Whip it good!!

  • It's pleasant to see an unusually poised composer-- not taking it out on the musicians for a change.

  • @JadyLester You know it was rehearsed dumb ass!

  • this was extremely painful to watch. that poor cello. ;(

  • que capooo que ess!!!

  • then he plays the horn after, lol

  • I don't care if this was staged or not.... its EPIC WIN!

  • I actually laughed at the end. Great music, great man!

  • Lol that was funny

FYI no fucking shit this was staged.

  • Oh nooo!)))

    2:00 no comments.

  • LMAO poor cello and french horn! Mothersbaugh is pure genius and such a creative composer.

  • if i was in the room as he did that to the cello... omg i would beat the living shit out of him!!!

  • mark mothersbaugh. what a guy

  • I literally do not think there is any way for a french horn to be LESS damaged by being run over by a car.

  • Lmao.

Physical wordplay making the french horn "flat"

  • Mark Mothersbaugh is a GENIUS I so want to meet this guy it's unbelievable. The other Devo members are great but Mark to me is the main man.

  • Is this for real? PSYCHO!

  • @pharmguy78

    uhhh...NO?

  • Lets see, judging by the fact there is a camera in front of him the entire "piece" is edited I'm going to assume this is scripted for the sole purpose of promotion.

    What do you think?

  • for the longest time I wondered why mark mothersbaugh doesn't smile in any interview or picture or any of that, and then I actually got to talk to him back stage, he smiled at something.

it was really, really, really scary.

  • Oh,no...there's a little more still....bwaaaa haaaa haaa. Funny!

  • Hysterical. This man always makes me smile. Love you, Mark!!

  • This is probably just fake for the sake of comedy.

  • PLEASE come to the next DEVOtional Mark.

  • Mark Mothersbaugh is still a freakin genious till this very day, Legend of his time.

  • I love him so..

He just made my day. again.

  • Ha! Proof of what I've been saying for years that composers are all insane!

  • Haha! I cracked up!

  • outstanding haha

  • so THATS how you make a french horn sound flat.

    Good good

  • lol i wonder if he acted like this while scoring "rugrats"

  • hahahaha Mark is still hilarious.

  • wow! i,so that what happens when marks mad! i guss you should never tell him that the instruments sound bad in a mothersbaugh song!

  • haha what a guy

  • My God, I love this man more everyday!

  • @Trendkillertrendy ME TOOOOOOOOO

  • LOL that's AWESOME (and I must declare I only use 'lol' once every millenia)

  • Cool i'm still waiting for the soundtrack to be on sell in stores.

  • genius at work !

  • this man is an artiste!

  • He will do anything to get the right sound.

  • You can tune a piano, but you can't tune a Mothersbaugh.

  • running over the horn is so awkward and hilarious.

  • Close to first.
