Hilarious. Haha. And c'mon. Did some people think this was reality? Why would they film him going out into the parking lot to destroy the French horn if it were "real"? And why would the movie put up their website if this wasn't ad space for them? Use your noggin.
from cello to firewood... from f horn to cor anglais...
to REDPORTIAONE: all music today is FROM classical music. saying classical music sucks you may as well say that all music sucks. and with out classical music, you'd have NO MOVIE scores, no VIDEO game scores and basically NO music whatsoever. so, get some culture you useless creature.
smashing instruments here is not intended as punk usually did, that is mere destruction ... what's done here is not actually destroying them but "modifying" them ..... ... of course a la Mothersbaugh .. :)
@rnrbishop yes sure Bishop.. they were mistaken for punks for a long time but their actual background is somewhat different from punk ...punk is about rebellion and refusal of society and conventions.... Devo is something totally different, is opening eyes on what's generally avoided by common human beings .... is realizing accepting the human's status as a puppet ..and realizing that "Rebellion" only turns a puppet into an unaware one ...
@bugiewugie1234 You gotta remember that punk is about whatever someone want's it to be about. I think in their own way, Devo was punk. I think they rejected norms just as much as the next "punks". Musically they weren't particularily punky, but in terms of attitude and style, they were punk. Or maybe I'm an idiot and I don't know what I'm talking about.
You are right...Devo was a punk band. Just like many punk bands of the late 70s who transitioned into New Wave. Blondie is another good example of this transition.
Sorry, dude. Devo was originally a punk band. They are like the band Blondie, who started as punk, but became New Wave. This is a spud talking, I know this band well, big fan.
@reichmarshall We are all Devo in a De evolved world. They were so right about De evolution. The BP 'Oil Spill' and the general shape of the world proves it!!
Lets see, judging by the fact there is a camera in front of him the entire "piece" is edited I'm going to assume this is scripted for the sole purpose of promotion.
for the longest time I wondered why mark mothersbaugh doesn't smile in any interview or picture or any of that, and then I actually got to talk to him back stage, he smiled at something.
BWAAAHAHAHAHA! His tone when he says: "Yeah, they seemed a little sharp. I know what you're saying." Fucking brilliant. XD

Mothersbaugh acts pissed off but he actually took the guy's advance. In the movie the French horns are gone and it's much more electronic-sounding.

That's more or less the Dizzy Gillespie story, too, horn-wise.

First of all, Mark did not "flip out," as you suggest. It's DRY HUMOR - and the title only serves to cheapen the skit.

He´s not just a great singer, a great musician or even a great composer.
He DOES ACT and he´s also a GREAT COMEDIAN.
That´s why i´m a great fan of his and his bandmates, since the now distant 1984. I had the GREAT PLEASURE AND HONOR of talking to him over the phone.
I hope DEVO never retires. The world needs them more and more EVERY SINGLE F***ING DAY! ; )
