Why do they always play this song so fast when they play it live?? The album version has a nice groove at 140bpm, and here they play it at 154bpm and I think it sounds awfully rushed (and goes by too quickly!).
this version is more catchy than the studio version,,i like the bass playing by stevie,,he did a lot of improvisation on the verse part..and the french horn solo is awesome,,very soft and melodic!!!!as always thanks to stuart for butchering the lyrics,,,he did a great part as a singer :-)
It's funny that any mess up in any live performance is always Stuart. The is one piano note at the beginning of the outro here that just makes you go "eek". Apparently he is just notorious for butchering lyrics at every show too. Funny as he writes most of it. Either way, best band of all time.
@mombus I met Stuart in HMV the other day and he said they had taken 18 months off, some of them are now parents, but they are going back in to the studio in January for a new album.Have seen them about 20 times, before they made it was the best.Peace from Scotland.
Sorry, replied from my dads computer so user name was different. But i seen them in Millport years ago and we got the last ferry home and me and my mates got the last ferry home with them and had a few beers and a sing song with them.Hope you are really jealous now!Peace from Scotland.
Lol, you hope I'm really jealous now? That's a strange thing to say. Regardless, you are indeed lucky to have experienced that, and you're lucky to be from Europe to begin with. Also, you Scots have wonderful accents. Mine is just a general American one.
The violins are so nice, together with the harpsichordy keyboard. The flute sounds like it should sound for this song. The lead singer sings better than I was afraid of. All in all very very good. Bit of a 60ties feel in the music
I had a dream B&S came to NZ but I couldn't find the venue and I was driving all round town getting lost and worried I was missing them. Man I wish they would come to NZ. Scotland is lucky.
Gay country?I think you're getting confused with your current residence! Not that it's a bad thing, you should be proud of being homosexual, but it's not good staying in the closet...you slip up sometimes, as you can see.
i compulsively listen to this album, still today. it's just so amazing, the feeling that every B&S song transmits is just great. i can't go by the weeks without listening to them.
man...even god was watchin b&s that day...the clouds part and right at the perfect moment ...the sun started shining..have to admit here that i have been addicted to this performance for weeks now...and today was moody day for me..and this performance has really moved me in many ways ...thanx for the upload...
great sound quality, especially for a live feed. Solid upload, i wish they would come to the states again; i missed an amazing tour of them and the new pornographers about 2 years ago.
I was in the crowd, right at the front with no mates. I squeezed every bit of musical goodness out of Glastonbury. Quality Line-up. I also liked the Divine Comedy on the same stage doing Queens of the Stone Age.
I never understood this song until I became a Christian, though it was always one of my favorites. It's about how Murdoch, who describes himself as "the model with the tragic air" wakes up to Jesus -- "I thought you were historical from all the books I've read / But I thought you could be bluffing" -- but too late to save his first love. Meanwhile, the "blind kids" have good sex at the "fancy dress," i.e the fallen physical world. Truly great lyrics.
I was there, sunday afternoon at glastonbury, and everyones on a come-down... This set really cheered everyone up, was beautiful and happy and lovely...Best bit was in about ten minutes time when there was a bloody great down-pour, and the lead singer just jumped in the crowd with us... Nuff respect...
Their newstuff is still good, its just different, like most of the songs on dear catastrophe waitress are still really good, the life pursuit isnt quite as good an album but still very nice! If you're feeling sinister, is a peach of an album! basically most stuff by them is amazing! all i can say is that i think stuart sings more in tune now, as some of the earlier stuff is a bit flat. but yah! hope that helps, Lynsey xxx
Awesome! Never heard Murdoch talk before, what an adorable accent. And when he started singing he sounded more Scottish than he does in the studio...Great song. One of my favorites.

Is it just me, or do they always speed this up a bit too much when they play it live? It's such an amazing song, but it loses much at this tempo.
