mh i think you're confusing Willie Colon with Hector Lavoe... the latter was a heroin junkie. yet, I agree with you on the fact that Colon was wrong about Byrne.
Thanx for this video anyway, do you have any other video of this performance?
RUHOORUHOO, there was a fantastic live show from 1993, I think. Most of musicians were the same that appear in this video. There was a wonderful live version of Make Believe Mambo song (he also performed Mr. Jones, Life During War Time, She´s Mad). ¿Could someone find something about this? I think it is really a treasure.
(Great Great, I thought I wouldn´t ever see any video of this Byrne´s album posted here on youtube, especially this song, one of the records that I liked to listen all the time while I was studyin University) Thanks for uploading this and great thing you keep the VHS
I remember this performance well. Suppose I can credit Byrne with introducing me to Latin rhythms / Cuban music before Ry Cooder did his (excellent) B.V.S.C.
Saw this show, Ruhoo..twice in Glasgow in 1990 then a couple of years later in Edinburgh. The backing singer, Margareth Menezes, was sensational when she performed her own stuff.
A rare gem indeed! Rei Momo was a landmark, a cult item for those who believe that the afro-cuban experience goes beyond mambos and cha-chas, but it has influenced all music in a definitive way. I think at the time no one really understood what Byrne was doing. Watching this images, recalling that night of 1990, I see that time has given Byrne all its benefits.
Thanks a lot. Wished he had done a concert movie of this instead of between the teeth. Not because BTW is bad but this tour was brillant and it you are right it is lost to the world forever.
Gran melodia!!! tantos años y aun vigente.
