i don't know why people are hating on this version. unless you're new to glee, you know that what they do is take an amazing song and take their own spin on it. Cyndi Lauper's version is fun and young, Glee's version is sad and there is clearly a meaning beyond the words. Laswell and Glee had to buy the rights from the original artist in order to cover.

After both bought the rights, they can do whatever the hell they want with it.

Were Glee producers inspired by Laswell to do it this way? Maybe, but Laswell doesn't need to be credited by Glee because it wasn't his song originally. It was Laswell's creative choice to perform it like this, as well as it was Glee's.

I thought this was a really awesome version of this song. Until I heard EXACTLY the same song and version being sung by Greg Laswell on the last couple minutes of an episode of Damages (from Fx) - episode "Tastes Like A Ho Ho", I'm sorry, but the song sounded identical - the rhythm of the song, the inflection of the singer's voice, pauses in the same place. Why would the Glee folks do this and try to call it their own? Not cool... :(
