  • Dude this review was brilliant...in-depth, great background info, video-capture/scenes and was hilarious.

  • I really hope they get to remake this game, update the graphics and stuff...

Fucking rogue lost the source code, but i'm glad some peeps got to reverse engineer it :)

Thank you ZDoom team and SvStrife team!!!

  • I loved the demo of this game ! Too bad I never got to play the fullversion of this back in the day...

  • The stealth aspects were mainly in the Town, the Commons, and the Powerplant There's a secret path in the Powerplant that would allow you to avoid the majority of enemies and obstacles, although you'll end up setting the alarm off anyway once you blast the crystal (but then at that point all you have to do is high-tail it out of there).

  • Quake was better in terms of technology, but Strife had a far, far superior story. It also featured an RPG-style stat system and plot-altering dialog with other characters. Having said that, Quake wasn't superior to Strife in EVERY regard.

  • ROFL! you sound like the key master! (no offence, but you do)

  • @DarkDemon677

    LOL, good observation

  • I LOVE jasons voice

  • Blackbird=navi

  • Love this game. The multiplayer IS a lot like Doom, but every player gets a beacon, so it has a RTS feel in it too.

  • I played this game Multiplayer with serial cable long time ago, this game is great

  • My favorite quote

"You can actually talk to people instead of mindlessly blowing shit up.

  • Because she's whore, they don't shut up, they're too busy *Communication Interrupted*

  • I like the sudden change in tone at the end :D

  • I like your reviews and all, but you sound like Karras from Thief 2: The Metal Age

  • nice game, underrated and shadowed by quake.

btw, i don't dislike the useless comments of blackbird, it's like a personality filler for that character.

  • The updated version of Strife that you can find on the internet is a little shitty due to the fact they made the grenade launcher useless. In the original version, the grenades stuck to enemies. In the patched version, the grenades just bounce back to you and kill you.

  • had a poor demo of this game, kinda liked it, but couldn't get a full version.

so i missed it out completely.

and that's a shame.. it really looks like a good game.

  • I enjoy your reviews very much, though I feel that the profanity is unnecessary and sounds awkward and forced.

  • I agree, the reactions are also much worse then the cause.

  • This game is missing a weapon just like EVERY other FPS. Thanks to ZDoom's DECORATE however I was able to fill the gap.

  • What weapon?

  • Sniper Rifle. Silenced in this case.

  • "Why can't you shut the fuck up you fucking whore!"

Haha nice one! Also, if this is abandonware does that mean someone can link me a download? :)

  • Do a google search.

  • This game was so fun. Unlike others, it also kept my attention... Heretic and Hexen were also great.

  • Really underrated fps hybrid game. I played it to death when it came out. It came out in a bad period when fps was transitioning from 2.5d games to full 3d polygons and got overlooked.

  • game great

  • there is a stealth option in some parts .. in the factory with the crystal.. the secret base with the costume you need .. there are more .... but i dont know annymore ..

  • If I'm not mistaken, the only parts of the game where you CAN'T go stealth are those in which civvies are specifically not allowed (like beyond certain markers or in some Order buildings).

  • my bad he says that ha ha

  • this was also one of the first games to heve alternate endings

  • Thank you so much for posting this up bro! ^^ One of my all time fav games from back in the day!

  • you sould review Powerslave( aka exhumed) !!!

  • yea, that's good idea.

  • Amazing game, VERY underrated...one of my all time faves...oh and this review not only owned but it was hilarious. 5 stars.

  • This is an awesome game, I enjoyed playing it when I found out and got it. I liked the stealth aspect, though it was a shame when you came across those annoying security doorway.. green scanner thingies (Though I was able to slip past one or two by use of a flaw ;) ) but they are necessary and logical, though it was REALLY annoying when you were trying to stealth in some levels and you had bots trying to kill you X.x. Didn't anyone tell them you're not hostile?

  • U can actually save the game in a different slot, but that's only in Skulltag or Gzdoom something like that. Only if u got the Strife wad...

  • Wow, dude. You've got women issues.

  • Looks complicated...

Never seen a first person shooter like this one.

  • complicated as it is. It was a fun game with a pretty good story. Kinda nice of the developers to use the modified Doom engine that was used for Hexen

  • COOL

  • i love this game its like. and early Deus Ex

  • but i like blowing shit up

  • This is truly one of the most underrated games out there. I remember playing it with my cousin on his Compaq computer around the time it was released. If it hadn't had to compete with Quake it would have gotten a lot more recognition.

  • Finally a video game reviewer that isn't one of 9 million AVGN rip offs and doesn't think every game sucks!

  • this gmae like stalker

  • Best...game...ever.

  • What a game. I remebered playing it when it first came out. I actually forgot what the game was called so it took me 2 hours clicking through Wiki's reading descriptions of FPS made pre 2000. Anyway, just wanted to say that in its day it was massively influential in my opinion. It brought RPG elements into the FPS genere as well as adding a great storyline (playing HL2 reminded me of this). Definately worth a play! I only wish I could get it to work on Vista or Linux.

  • download a program called dosbox. its a dos emulator...just drag the strife exe file over dosbox icon to run it. or you could mount c drive and all that in dosbox. simple

  • Or, since it uses the doom engine, you could download either zdoom or gzdoom and play it without the hassle of using an emulator.

  • This game is not bad.But sometimes big labyrinth

  • This game is SO under-rated. Even with the newer games available today, Strife is still one of my top favorite games of all-time.

  • I wanna choose different sluts to fuck up too :(

  • COOL

  • The grenade launcher with different types of grenades including Phospor grenades to incinerate your enemies. I've burned out the Programmer boss with these. Uber weapon called Sigil. When it's completely assembled it truly kicks fat ass.

One of the greatest creations! Truly a work of computer gaming art.

  • I had walked through this game in 1998. It took ~7 days. This game is my favourite!

It is the first FPS with RPG elemnts. So as you can see shitty S.T.A.K.E.R, is not the first game of such type. The big town where you can always return to previus places and see them changed! Half-Life wasn't even planned. Massive battles perfromed by NPCs are also present.

  • You've never played System Shock 1 or Ultima Underworld 1&2, which predate this, I take it. Granted the UU games aren't exactly shooters unless you are using bows or slings, etc.

SS1 is very much a precursor to Deus Ex; some of the same key people worked on both, and the augmentation system works like the hardware devices in SS1. The damage system and story are much deeper than pretty much any FPS for a few years afterwards. This game's great too though. Deepest game out of the Doom engine.

  • Of course the damn comment system has to place this out of context in the default view with the video, so it looks like I'm replying to the video, not another comment.

  • This game rules.

  • Just finished the game :-) In two days. It's fantastic.

And yeah, blackbird's mine from now on dudes :-P

  • I like how the reviewer gets annoyed by Blackbird :)

I find her comments sweet :)

  • ...

You're a goddamned idiot. id is a Freudian concept, not a disorder.

  • no comment on the weapons?!

  • I love your reviews.

  • Can't believe I had missed this game when it was released back in 1996. Incredible what they squeezed out of the old Doom engine! All that's missing are highres textures/models like for Doom.

I really enjoyed playing Strife, although navigating through the maps can get confusing, especially towards the end. However, the "good" ending knows to please. Especially male players. ;) Two thumbs up for both the game and the review!

BTW: Use GZDoom engine when playing this, it enhances the game a lot!

  • I never even heard of this until I saw your review. Now that I've played it I can say that it's a pretty cool game though navigating the landscape can be confusing.

  • LOL your too funny but yeah that cunt was annoying...Wow this game brings back memories awsome game though one of the games that lead me to be so addicted is fake sick to stay home from school and play it :)...I loved how you could go to stores and buy shit gave you the RPG feel overall sick game and i recommend it to any fan of older games..I just wish i hadnt sold the game in a garage sale i wanna play it lol..!

  • sad to say this but after quake, the world forgot about strife

  • great review, Love the ending

  • Awesome game with multiple alternate endings (at least 3, maybe even 4, I don't remember) and many unique features that I still miss in modern games. A few years this game was my favorite.

Too bad it's not on sale anymore and too bad there is no modern sequel for that based on, say, Doom 3 engine.

  • sjeez, eye-dee? It's *id* as in "did" or "kid"!

  • hell yeah, strife is an awesome game.but i didnt mind blackbird's talking coz it gave me the feeling that i really have a companion and wasnt going against the order alone-no other game(as far as i can remember)at that time had a similar feature.but she does sound a little silly sometimes =)

  • Nope, the engine was made for "ken's labyrinth" and before duke it was used for Witchaven and Tekwar if I'm not mistaken.

  • I noticed that while playing this that the allied soldiers look exactly like sprite edits of the Doom Marine. Nice use of repeating sprites.

  • I liked that Microsoft joke :p

  • "You can see through the com unit? Shut the fuck up" lol

  • i always thought this was more based on the duke3d engine

  • There is no Duke3D engine. Duke3D, Blood, and shadow warrior run on the 'Build' engine.

  • Good review, although you failed to mention the fact that this game can also be played on the ZDoom source port of Doom.

  • Congratulations for this Review! It was really a nice game and it's very good to see somebody doing a so well-made review! Thanks!

  • Very good review. I'm impressed, keep it up.

  • You talk like a sailor sometimes, and I don't like that.

  • same every review sounds the same

  • Whether I can't comment on how similar each review sounds, they all are done very well.

  • that is also very true, i enjoy the thoroughness of each review, seems like he plans each review out for a like a week before he does it.

  • get cybermage on here too

  • You sounded kinda robotic and way too geeky. Are you asian?

Jk, nice review. A game I thought I was the only one to play. :D

  • Nice review. Gonna subscribe to yah. :)

  • gr8 review, I has good structure and you supply a lot of information on it. Only one complaint (i really hoped you were one of the few the don't use f*words). Keep it up, I like to see more good abandonware dos reviews from you in the future.
