So, functionally, what is the difference between using electric and magnetic fields to deflect the ions? Probably not going to be in my exam, but I'm very curious about a lot of things.
This is great! I have an exam on modern analytical techniques for organic molecules today. These vidoes are a lifesaver; I can actually understand how these machines work.
5:02 it's not the mass that is shown on x-axis, it's the m/z ratio! Depending of type of ionization, molecule it sell it can often have same numeric value like molecular mass but it's not always the case!
@SarettoRain I will have to discuss this with my colleagues. I will respond to you as soon as possible. Can you let me know how you will be using this video?
@wwwRSCorg I will change nothing in the video, neither the sound or logo. Only I add a subtitle file in italian. This idea born in me when I studied for entry in a PhD and I couldn't find anything in italian.
Now I know why our lecturer is soo insistent to show us these videos ! ...That's a decent one though compared to the others I have seen.. ( I think they should not be uploaded even.. too ridiculous to watch lol.)
Lots of ways. Think about it, if there's a unknown substance found at a crime scene. Or if they are unsure of the hydrocarbon used to start a fire in an arson case. MS will help with these kind of things.
wow we were learning about this in class. The book tries to explain what this machine can do but actually seeing it in this video makes it a lot clearer. Thanks for posting this video up.
Very informative

The video is good but I would advice you spek strictly of masse to charge ratio and not mass.
