  • The children are singing Òran do Cheap Breatuinn ('S e Cheap Breatuinn...). The men (men do it in CB, but not in Scotland) are beating wool, not nets, to shrink it (trad. soaked in stale urine) and are singing a milling song "Ho Ro 'S Toigh Leam-Fhìn Thu" as bb3ca201 mentions. It's actually not a milling song, but a love song. They're just cramming it into a regular metre to go with their work. It's quite beautiful when sung as a song.

  • What is the meaning of the song that accompanies the to and fro motion on the table?

Was this the way that fishing nets were worked to clean/ soften them up back in the days of the brave fishermen?

    Thanks.

  • I would be able to look for the lyrics if I knew the title of the song...

  • Uabhasach éibhinn a dh'éisdeachd nam fear a' seinn an òrain "Ho Ro 'S Toigh Leam-Fhìn Thu"; b'àbhaist dha na cailleagan a dhéanamh...

  • the children's choir:

'S e Cheap Breatainn tìr mo ghràidh, Tìr nan craobh, 's nam beanntan àrd'; 'S e Ceap Breatainn tìr mo gràidh, Tìr is àillidh leinn air thalamh.

Chan urrainn dhomh-sa leth dhuibh ìnns',

Na tha mhaisealachd 's an tìr; Stadaidh mi bho'n tha mi sgith, Beannachd leibh, is oidhche mhath leibh

  • Labhair i agus mairfidh i.

  • Very well said, mo chara

  • I badly want to know the lyrics to the song that the family sings...I know the two milling songs are Ho Ro 'S Toigh Leam Fhin Thu and Dh'olainn Deoch A Laimh Mo Run.

  • The lyrics are available. I'm sure that, if you Google the titles, you'll come up with the lyrics. Good luck, mo charaid
