@LuftfahrtFan if you are a serious photographer D90 will be better for you. but if you love to take many casual photos then 550D will be better but yet they are very close to each other and you cant say which one is better or worse. they both are awesome. but 550D is cheaper
I love my D90 its something I don't regret! I don't use video very much. live views good for shots where you can't exactly get a good look through the view finder.
crimsoninhumanblood@deviantart find some samples here of it :D
I can't really figure the usefulness of the video feature if you have to manually focus etc. I just got my D90 but I doubt I will even use that much touted feature. If I want to take vids I will get a dedicated video camera.
impressive HD vid feature except for its plastic body which is noticebly the downside of it. The cam itself look so amature in size. Overall its OK though. They should have made it more sturdy for ergonomics considerations. I'd rather have Nikon D90.
if i remember correctly, our naked eyes will be fooled into a motion with 50fps in normal lighting. in cinema tho, the dark lighting environment makes it easier to fool the eyes at only 24fps.
I really need help on choosing a camera. Im choosing the Nikon d90 for its image quality and the Canon T1i for its video quality. Which one should i choose?
@Piacco2706 honestly though, i have a canon eos t2i, which records 1920 x 1080 full hd. It also takes amazing photos in 18 mp RAW+jpeg with an iso of 100-6400 expandable to 12800. I LOVE it. and, in a kit with a 18-55mm and a 55-250mm telephoto zoom, it was cheaper than the kit in this video.
I have a d60. I also have a 18-55 vr and a 55-200 vr. Do you think it would be better to buy the d90 without the kit lens and keep my 18-55 and 55-200 or just pay 300 bucks more and get the 18-103 vr kit?
If you're willing to pay 300 more, I would get the 18-105 because it's a fun lens to play around with. But the bad thing is that it wont zoom as much as the 55-200. It just depends on your budget. Because 55-200 is a great lens too.
@azn1221 neh unless you get a big professional one a DSLR camera with HD recording will be much better than a camcorder because of the BIG sensor the DSLR camera has.
Weird and bizarre that people hatefully frantically press the thumbs down button on the utter bona fide carved in stone indisputable fact that the D90 has an intense rolling shutter problem.
Not very factual or scientific, your average uu-tyooob crowd...
The movie mode on this camera is useless. If you want to capture video, get a camcorder. Don't count on capturing good quality video with this camera.

What type of Nikon camera would be good for a beginner photographer like myself? I;m almost 18 and loves taking pictures. I hear Nikon is like the "God" of cameras. Please respond.
I'd say a Nikon D40 or Nikon D60. I just recently upgraded from a D40x (which has been replaced by D60) to a D90 and although I do love the D90 dearly, the D40/D60 are in some aspects easier to use and therefore an excellent beginners camera. Also, as a beginner, you probably wont use the more advanced features of the D90.
Depends on what you're thinking of doing with your photopraphy. If you want to excel in it then the D80/90 would be great since they are both semi-pro great quality cameras. Yes people say that D40 would be better for beginners, it's easier to use but any camera is with practice. If you choose the D40 by the time you decide to upgrade, the D90 would have dropped in price and maybe some better cameras out so there is still a reason to choose the D40.
I bought the D300 because of the better AF system and because I thought it would be more durable. #1 , shutter life . 150,000 rated for the D300 , 100,000 for the D90 ..
#2 , memmory . CF cards , as compared to SD cards . Much faster transfer rate , and more storage. D300 100% viewfinder coverage
AF. MLU, 10 pin and PC Sync ports, larger buffer, 14 bit files, and ability to meter with non-chipped lenses (such as older AIS lenses and the PC-E lenses).
I wanted one so bad. However, the D90 takes pictures that look just as good, so I am settling for that. The build quality of the d300 is better and it has a few features that rock such as 51 pt af, and it takes cf cards and of COURSE the 100% view finder. You are lucky!!! Enjoy.

It's doing my head in.
MrAmazingmagic11 3 months ago 6
@MrAmazingmagic11 take the D90!
I have had the D3100 for 2 months now and it is very slow in low light though set with the high iso mode!
D90 can take all the good lenses and also the DX lenses I think!!
No motor for lenses in the D3100 like a nikkor 85 1.8!

Forget about the video recording. Rolling shutter problem makes anything that moves jiggle like YOU_WOULD_NOT_BELIEVE. Yes, it is *THAT* bad.
24 fps is also unacceptable slow.
a1mint 3 years ago
No my friend, 24fps is enough. It's a cinematic standard even.
The problem must be the (way of) capturing I guess.
Still DSRL aren't made for video-recording.
DiScuppa 2 years ago
No my friend, 24fps is NOT enough. The cinematic standard is bullshit. It is ancient and based on cost.

DiScuppa 2 years ago
In order for 24 fps to look somewhat smooth, each frame would have to be taken with a slow shutter time, making motions blurry.
Compare 24 fps with 60 fps and you'll see that 24 fps simply is not adequate, period.
a1mint 2 years ago
You don't know shit about video. 24FPS is what gives the cinematic effect. It doesn't make motion blurry, only choppy. Film makers do this deliberately.
jodellstasic 1 year ago
You're very wrong. I've experimented with 24 and 60 fps, and 60 fps is needed in order to get true smooth motion without having to blur things.
It's really you that doesn't know shit about video.
The only reason we're seeing 24 fps is because of cost, and decisions made nearly 100 years ago.
Look it up. Even James Cameron agrees with me.
a1mint 1 year ago 3
You are right when you said that 60fps is needed in order to get true smooth motion. I completely agree. However, I never said that 24fps gives you true smooth motion. What I meant is that 24fps is enough to give the illusion of motion and is the motor on those expensive Arriflex cameras are deliberately set to frame rates around 24fps when shooting movies, which is why Nikon calls it Cinematic D-Movie mode.
jodellstasic 1 year ago
There is this whole bullshit branding around 24fps. "Cinematic". wooptydoo. It sucks.
a1mint 1 year ago
Too bad for you. I find it useful.
jodellstasic 1 year ago
60fps is still much smoother than 24fps.
a1mint 1 year ago
Now before you barf up more religious film zealot antiquated bullshit, check out the Wikipedia page on Frame_rate and also the page on Showscan.
"dramatically smoother and more realistic in its rendering of motion"
The stupid pathetic 24fps film cult must end. But, the cost is too high, and there are too many ignorant fools clinging to it.

Enjoy.

I use the Nikon 2.8/F pro lens so the bild quilty is better around the rings to support hever lens.

Thanks for the video. I´m going to buy one, but I have a doubt... Does that kit (or the body-only) comes with memory stick already?
Thanks!
