Some of the trains are for moving cars but others are not. The camps do exist as documented in Congressional Bills. They were used on the west coast to hold innocent Japanese people in WWII.

Uh...they're not boxcars. They're "Autorack" cars. These things date from the late fifties, and started out as simple flat cars. In the seventies, with crime on the rise, companies began sheathing the sides to prevent vandals from damaging the cars. Eventually they were roofed over also. The type you see today is a direct descendant of that, which you would know if you checked the wikipedia article titled "Autorack".

The holes are there for ventilation. One of the problems with loading automobiles, is the fact that they have to be running. Over time carbon monoxide can build up in enclosed spaces and cause issues. Even with the end doors open. Also, there are no lights within the cars, so you have to get light somewhere. The main issue was to prevent things like cinder blocks. If you want to see one stopped, check my own video. I've got images of them being loaded, and with their end doors open.

I've been painting graffiti on trains for years. The first time I saw that footage of the concentration camp I had to laugh at it since it was not long after we had snuck in to paint AMTRAK engines.
