i've been playing the violin for 7 years now, since i was 12, and joshua bell has always been my idol right from the start as far as being a violinist, and it breaks my heart that i'll never be a violinist of his caliber. :'(
@Jesstheperson just having such a deep appreciation for good music is a valuable and rare commodity in this day and age. I enjoy playing piano and guitar and even singing a bit though I'll never be a concert level performer. ;)
I dont understand why he ommitted to play the very end of the piece which is the most touching part when rusalka yells at the moon as it dissapears..... ???????
This has got to be the ultimate instrumental version of this most beautiful piece of music ! Joshua Bell produces a most remarkable violin tone in his his most sensitive rendition and he certainly has a close affinity with romantic pieces ! A highly gifted violinist and should get due credit for his great performances !! I know we have Heifetz : Perlman: Menuhin, Kreisler etc who belong to the pantheon of great violinists !but Time matures artists and these are modern times !!
such a wonderful song talks to us in a high level of beauty that we don't understand the exact meaning of it. it's sublime and i think we have the full perception of this feeling when we are in heaven.
Every time i hear Joshua play this song something just clicks inside of me and i have to start practicing my violin skills so that someday i could maybe play as beautifully.
I love this song. This piece is such a romantic music. Rusalka isn't it? The time when she sang and begged the moon to tell her feelings to her love one.
This is just beautiful. I am singing this aria, and trying like mad to learn enough Czech well enough to do it justice. It is a pleasure to just relax and listen to the beautiful melody.
this song makes me so depressed...there are these peoples I am sort of in love with...but they're actors from Czech....certain actors ;D anyways, this song reminded me of them because it's Czech music, and also this song just how happens to be about unrequited love....lol.
violinmusicfan, "musical creatures who are for some reason obsessed" .. With music as beautifully played as this is, who could not be obsessed? alicyat1 should have asked Joshua to come and play at her wedding. Apparently it is not too difficult to get his attention :) When I want to just get lost in a piece of music, this is what I play! BRAVO!!!!
Too funny :) I don't know if he actually does. Perhaps you could tell me!! It is possible that my ASSumptions are incorrect, hopefully not! If "he" is playing in Florida this year, my wife and I will definitely get tickets. She is a musician (Piano and Harp) and surely would love to meet him, as would I.
@violinmusicfan yeah, all the time! and for just $75.00 plus a free dinner!! ... if you throw in an extra $25.00 he'll play polka music at the reception while you naive rubes dance around for a couple of hours
This is such a beautiful version! I play the violin too in a youth orchestra, and we recently performed this piece with a soprano on a concert. This version makes me want to play this too. I'm going to try but I guess it won't be easy, especially playing it as beautiful as this ^^
'Song to the Moon' is my favourite aria of all time, and this instrumental version is absolutely stunning. I'm going to have it at my wedding in a few months as i'm walking up the aisle! Beautiful work from Joshue Bell.
I am so glad you have enjoyed this recording. People are musical creatures who are for some reason obssessed with sounds organized over time. I am impressed that you love this piece so much that you are going to play it at such an important event of your life. Thank you for sharing and I wish you and your marriage all the best.
You think so? Well, I think there are certain clasically romantic pieces like Salut d'Amour, and O Sole Mio and this that some people find intrinsically cheesy and schmaltzy. This is a piece for all the hopeless romantics out there! :D :P
Although people do criticize him for his comparatively lean tone and occasional slips in intonation, I really love his traditional and romantic style.
I don't know a lot about classical music but there's no doubt - this is AMAZING

I certainly love his Rusalka' aria, but here I prefer Sarah Brightman' voice. When she sings this aria, I am forgetting to breath.

@bornczech All of Sarah Brightman's performances and her weird hand movements are best seen on the radio or CD.

Bell is a genius at adapting music from other 'voices' to the violin ... this is extremely evocative of the full moon (last night) touches the divine

I agree, his playing is naturally romantic and sultry. He is probably the best violinist to play such lyrical works.
