Do you happen to know if 0.9.5 is floating around anyplace? The latest only accepts ELF files and I don't know of any ISO-to-ELF converters... I heard of MagicISO, but I don't know how to use it. o_O
This is a PS2 emulator, not a PC game. Emulators work like that, 120 FPS = 2x the normal speed if it's a NTSC region for example. So that's why Tidus in this video is running at like 3.34 - 6.67 times faster than he "normally" would on a PS2.
You can just try it out yourself if you don't believe it.
It's not speed up, the game is among the less demanding games and using all speedhacks etc and a Core 2 Duo E8400 overclocked to 4.0 GHz will get you speeds like that. This is quite a high fps area too but I'm getting like 150~200 FPS average speeds in this game and ~100 minimum and ~400 FPS maximum if I don't limit it on my comp. I'm a longtime overclocker and tweaker, I know how to get things running as fast as possible. ;)
Nice! I'm only using a Pentium 541 Prescott 3.2 w/HT @ 4.0-4.25 ghz and I tried this game but only got about 20 FPS on the PAL version.
I'm buying a Q6600 as soon as I can and I'm hoping I can reach at least 3.6 ghz, I only have a 8600GT though which is 2 1/3 times slower than the 8800GT, I might get a bottleneck in framerate.
"Graphics cards are severely underused in emulation"
Until CUDA and Open-CL came along. Soon plugins or entire emulators can be coded to run the code on the GPU as well as rendering. GPU's can do several cycles at any point in time due to the raster operation units and stream processors (shaders). My 8600GT has 10x the mathematical capability of my Pentium 4, and it preforms 7-10x faster in conversions, 38-42x faster in Rendering (compared using Swiftshader 2.01)
GPU's are many times faster than traditional CPUs. The trend may either go towards more compatable general purpose GPUs or CPU/GPU integration.
The Playstation 2 had 2 vector units, a floating point processing unit, a graphics synthesizer with 4 MB embedded DRAM for frame buffers, textures and z-buffers, polygon and fillrate operations are very quick therefore, all shapes supported, and the DMA controller which manages the traffic of information across this bus.
damn, i just dont get it, i tried to emulate FFX on my pc, but I got 40 fps and shitload of graphical glitches. Plaiyn on PCSX2 0.9.4 with ZEROGS Kosmos 0.97.0. PC specs: gigabyte GeForce 9800GTX+, Gigabyte S-series Motherboard, GA-MA696G-S3H, AMD Phenom 9550 quad-core 2,2 ghz, 4 gb of RAM, runned on 32bit win XP, please haaaalp ;p
i have a shitty homecomputer which is like 3ghz don't know why it cant even play halo fast on lowest res, while my 14.1 inch lappy 1.33ghz dual core can play very fast on high res (no joke could make sense if someone did the math)
quad-core, that should make a breeze for pcsx2 especially. Maybe its just settings...
First you need a copy of your game as .iso file on your computers harddrive. Then you open up pcsx2,go to File -> Run CD/DVD and navigate to the location of your game .iso and open it up.But in order to do it this way you need a cd-rom plugin that supports .iso files.Usually there is one with pcsx2.
Not at all.The emulator only renders as fast as the cpu can go,so it only uses available resources without any chance to damage the hardware.Only if your cpu is overclocked while running a emulated game, while missing proper cooling.Only then it might be risky for the hardware :P.Get the latest beta from pcsx2 and set the fps limit to 0 to let it set the best fps by itself,or any other number, i.e. 60 for 60 fps.
No, this is totally untrue especially when it comes to gaming. With a higher clock frequency your processor is able to feed much more information in a clock period. This truely sees benefit when you have a SLi or CrossFire setups. Because those types of setups bottleneck the cpu, having a higher clock frequency will help overcome the bottleneck. An e8400 @ 4.0Ghz with Dual GTX280's are gonna give you better MINIMUM FPS than the same setup but with the processor @ 3.0Ghz.
Hahaha awesome, I'm getting that exact same processor in a couple days :D
Do you have yours water-cooled, stock air cooled, or what? I'd like to know what kind of overclocking I can expect. I've heard of 4.5ghz on stock fans, but it often varies from chip to chip
You don't hook up, you get a rip/image of the game disc and you play it thru an emulator which acts as close to the original PS2 as possible. It takes a fairly good pc for it to even work though.
No, but a pretty good gaming PC can already run FFX on PCSX2 on around 70-80 fps, the only thing is that even at those fps FFX looks a little too fast (original game speed is 60fps) so you have to limit using the emulator's options.
I'm sorry, but why do I need a top of the line computer to play a game from the PS2?? I mean, hasn't the tech improved since the PS2 came out? Am I to understand that my brand new pc comes is 2nd to a damn PS2? That just doesn't compute in my head. Can anyone explain this to me?? Please...
because its emulation.. sure my pc runs crysis at max settings but when it comes to ps2 emulation, i can only get average 40-45 fps for final fantasy X bec. my cpu frequency is a little bit low.
When talking about Emulation the best way to think about it is your PC having to run at least 3x what it's trying to do. The PS2 chip architecture is extremely complex and the developers have to transfer it to the PC which is no easy task.
The computer has to emulate the system (including every single component) PLUS the games themselves AND on top of that the PS2's architecture is kinda complicated (propietary) so it needs a lot of power to be emulated right (just like with the Saturn emulation), if the architecture was normal and not complex, you would only need a normal or less powerful PC to run the emulator, like with the Dreamcast, N64 and Plyastation for example.
70 is too much for this game, it will look sped up (specially the music) and bad, if you can run it at 40-50 that's perfect. I think the game's native speed is somewhere around 50-60 fps.
I'm Begging you!!! pls make a tutorial on how to use it!!! Can I use my ps2 DVD or should i extract it and make an ISO? or should i donwload it? plssss
I downloaded it as ISO, then mounted with Daemon Tools into a virtual drive, then used PCSX2 to open it, changed CDVD configration so he will load from the virtual drive, then I lower the Graphical Settings to speed up the game, Im happy it finally works but sometimes in menus and so I got very fast speed while at movies and when there are many events on the screen I got very much lag (20 FPS)
Gimme some tips how to fix this fast/slow change please!
hey dude...that game sucks..the more speeds up the game the more it become bored to play....know that.. you guys should buy the playstation 2 console.....peace rock rules
I heard that to run pcsx2 is all about cpu power. is that true? How much does the graphics card effect it you think? So you were able to get that high frame rate with a dual core. That means that a quadcore OC to 3.8 ghz should run this game flawless too.

lol ^^ I assume this is with a PS2 emulator because I have never heard of it. I suppose it is because I haven't searched! Hmmm! Time to upgrade ePSXe to this then! :D
Just remember you need a very powerful system for PCSX2 so that's why I stated system specs in the title to avoid "fake" spamming. FFX 3D is one of the fastest running 3D games and also this part of the game I showed runs pretty fast as well (inside the tents are the fast spots for this game) and in the tent in the beginning I have even 405~410 FPS but as you see not very demanding graphics in this spot. :p
Damn, how to play? or feel it when playing it with this kind of speed.

Graphics cards are severely underused in emulation, you'll find that the CPU has so much more effect on performance when you upgrade it.
I can play the game at around 400% normal speed, which is about 200+fps.
Obviously, I limit it to about 60 or 70 fps, because I don't like the slow running speed, but don't want to kill the sound.
And you may also find that a Core 2 Quad cpu will do worse than a Core 2 Duo cpu, not sure why, but they do.

Improper multithreading optimization, otherwise the C2Q should preform appropriately.

i got my e6700 to 4ghz, but it was never so fast like this,
either the performance of 45nm cores are a lot better than the 65nm ones or you just used an tweaked PCSX2 build :p

lol ^^ I assume this is with a PS2 emulator because I have never heard of it.
