That is why Hadrian, when he assumed the throne, almost immediately withdrew from conquered lands in Mesopotamia. At any rate, the wars ended up being tragic for both sides. Rome fell to the barbarians, and Persia, a few hundred years later, exhausted over the wars with Byzantium, fell to the Arabs. All that fighting for nothing. :/
