We defeated them in the Battle of Britain which made them abolish their plans for an invasion of Britain, after that Hitler's commanders told him it was impossible to invade Britain so then he focused on the Eastern front. We weren't two weeks away from surrendering because we defeated them in North Africa as well. You Yanks really are dumb.

(for its time) germany - 3 world cups and 3 UEFA european cup.... England, 1 world cup and thats it. as for bases. the cost of running those bases are hundreds of millions. we waste that money. those bases acheive nothing. we run jack shit in germany. only thing German we run are all the amazing cars we buy from them.

@xxxSLITxxx (final continued)... you dont realise how ahead of its time the german army was. so much of what it pioneered is the foundations of the world largest armies today. football wise they have had so much more success. won far more and runner up in 7 major championships.... thats incredible. also the german economy is much larger and stable than ours. our economy is a mess germany is relatively stable. germany beats the UK in practically all areas. im british but i at least admit it...

@xxxSLITxxx france actually helped the germans more than they did the british. all the americans did was send supplies to the uk, most of which were destroyed by u-boats until the enigma machine was cracked. they also nuked half of japan, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people. the russians were just watching from the sidelines waiting for someone to attack them. when germany did, the russians annihilated them

as for the football, i agree with you - germany have had much better sides than our's in the past. the 1966 world cup however was hardly a sham, please ellaborate.

@ungface true, but economically they would have cut us off from the rest of europe and africa and asia. eventually is britain would have declined, germany with its new terrotiory and power would have grown and annihilated us. a few yers later. if america had not have entered the war then germany would have eventually beat us or forced us to sign a peace treaty which would have stripped us of many of our foreign colonies depriving us of materials and trade. we needed america. read up!

As for football; you're forgetting Platts wrongly dissallowed goal in 1990 v West Germany and that England outplayed them in 1996; in fact in both of the those semi-finals.

I have studied under the most influential historians on the Great War. It was the British that played the vital role in the Spring Offensive and the Hundred Days Offensive. Three-Quarters of the casualties were British and French, and British did more damage than the other nations put together in those three decisive months. You are pig ignorant.

It is not a controversial statement. At least not to someone who knows what they are talking about. Football: Geoff Hursts dissallowed goal in 1970, the disgusting Anschluss game with Ausria in 1982; Platt's dissallowed extra time goal in the 1990 semi-final, German luck in 1996. If justice was done it would be three cups.

@xxxSLITxxx (continued) USA's contribution to the allied war effort was massive. at a pivotal time in the war where both sides were exhausted. the addition of weapons, materials, food stuff and 4.5 million+ men is pretty substantial. of course it had an effect and a large one at that. would the allies have won without america? maybe. could they have lost? maybe. but to say USA's contribution was meaningless is crazy. we needed USA to ASSURE victory. without them it could have gone either way...
