Look at windows 7 for example, Why would anyone in their right mind spend £200 for an operating system that is a glorified vista, it is practically EXACTLY the same.

You are correct on the prices, some are cheaper, i chose to go for the most expensive one as an example, the best one is £190.

If you buy windows 7 you'll find the main differences between windows 7 and vista is 2 seconds booting time, 10% less physical memory used for being idle and a windows button that glows.

Now in my honest opinion the 10% less physical memory is quite good, but honestly not worth spending £200 on. The rest is copied from vista. Shame they never fixed vista.
