I remember seeing car based ambulances and hearses when I was a kid. In the town where I lived, the ambulances were based at the funeral home. Every once in a while you might see an ambulance based on a van or a Suburban, but most used a car chassis.
Believe it or not,the US Army & Air Force used to have some of these? (They used them on post and such,Base Hospital dispatches...not in the field....that's what a 5/4 "crackerbox" is for?) Surplused them out in early 1980's.
It's not that I find hearses spooky or anything. Actually I think most pre-1970 heases are works of art. My point is, some coach builders built "limousine hearses", why? The only time i'd want to be in the back of a hearse is on my way to the cemetary, and not on my wedding day or a formal night out.
how did you get that? i have S1 and S2 and was pretty sure the hearse was in an episode from the 3rd season which isn't out on DVD yet. i found a pic of it on imcdb and it is a 1970 from season 3 episode 3.
A 70 Olds ambulance was used in an episode of CHiP's within the first two or three seasons. It was driven a group of surfers and used to haul surf boards. It was used in a chase scene and Im pretty sure it was wrecked by episode's end.
Nice, being a big Buick/Olds wagon fan I really like this - notice the seville model kind of ironic since the best known hearses ambulances were Cadilliac 's - alot of Pontiac's in the late 60's too -- dont happen to have those brochures do you . rob
I got all this stuff online. I send you a couple of links. Yeah Olds didnt make a big wagon from 65-70 like Buick and Pontiac. Kinda strange. Guess it helped the Vista Cruiser sales.
THIS .... is a cool youtube video. Nice work sir !

You could consider changing the background song to D.O.A. by Bloodrock. It's on the U Tube.

as nice as they are, and they are really nice, for passenger treatment during transport, how effective would they really be?

I remember seeing a 68 or so olds ambulance on CHiP's. IIRC some surfer dudes owned it and it got rolled in a drag race or something

I recently came across a mid 60's Olds Combo car..Sadly the owner will not part with it. It was great to see her in her mostly original state.
