So it is very likely that Virgil can return to his original corporeal form after he gains enough power through Nero.
Demons can't die.... defeated sure, but since a demons don't have separate physical and spiritual bodies (one and the same). There are 2 official DMC light novels sanctioned by capcom, there is nothing in those about Virgil having a son(though in the first novel Dante "kills" Virgil AGAIN). The insinuation in DMC4 was that Virgil possessed Nero's arm. This is why Nero doesn't have his own DT, but becomes completely posessed when he enters DT (hence the big blue posession specter).

We know Vergil from DMC3 but not more. What about his past, his feeling, his thouhgt. We don´t know him that much to say, that he is just evil. And to say, that Nero is not like Vergil....well Dante is not like his father, Lady is not like her father. Kids are different.
@000666000 Actually, Vergil and Dante gained seperate traits from their father; Dante gained his father's rebelliousness and Vergil gained his honor and calmness. Also, Vergil doesn't have to be Nero's father in order for Nero to have Sparda's blood, there are a number of explanations. Maybe Nero was tested on by the Order or Sparda may have had other descendants.

@dathtyler13 I don't remember Lucia's grandmother ever talking to Dante about Sparda other than their deal and at the end of the game where he tells her that she doesn't need to tell him. Now, there is one possible reason why they didn't know he had demon powers, maybe they did experiment on him but he was probably a failure. Anyways, he can't be Vergil's son, the age difference between the two of them is too small.

This is what happened Vergil's spirit got sucked into Yamato and that's why you see a blue spirit behind Nero in DMC4 when he unleshes Yamato. But one thing I don't understand is how they took fragments of Nelo Angelo and placed them inside Bianco and Alto Angelo since there was nothing left to salvage, maybe they took parts of his soul.

I read the DMC4 novel, the ghostly-like figure that Nero has behind him is HIS soul, not Vergil's. I just want to clear that up, I'm sorry to those that think it's Vergil or Nelo Angelo. And from what the novel hints, Vergil is Nero's father, which I am not very proud about :/

nero's DT looks just like vergil's yamato DT, with the sheath on his left arm, plus remember when dante wanted yamato back and said "its gotta stay in the family" then gives it to him.
Alright guys here's a theory, very similar to Ryussa's comment. Vergil, at the end of DMC3 went to go fight Mundus, having just lost to Dante he was defeated and enslaved as Nelo Angelo, who was later killed by Dante in DMC. Vergil's soul, being strong in will to continue existing did just that, wandering the lands until he found Nero, about to have his incident where he was injured protecting Kyrie, Nero wanted power to protect, power being something Vergil always wanted, he bestowed to Nero.
@BlackandBlue1993Jc How would that even work? Vergil does not like human kind near enough to sleep with one and even if he did, when would he have? Nothing is explained about him before DMC3 and during the game he's bent on wiping out mankind, after which he dies fighting in the underworld. BTW, not trying to shoot you down, this is just something I've personally thought a lot about and I enjoy debating it.
@joeyd504 See, in my opinion I figured that Yamato reacted to SPARDA's power. Who else could give him an arm like that? Not even Virgil had that arm or anything of the like. So when Yamato broke (does ANYONE KNOW WHY YAMATO BROKE? PLEASE send me someone who knows...) Nero cannot be the son as he does not inherit the arm from virgil. He isn't possessed by him (or at least I think) either because he was already born with his physical features. My guess: Sparda had more than one mate.
@DavidX346 Yamato broke when Vergil lost to the king of the underworld, also, look at the image behind Nero when he devil triggers and then look at Vergil's devil trigger. It totally IS Vergil that's in there if anyone, and about the looks? maybe that happened after the accident, you never see Nero before it happenned anyway

BTW I don't even know how people are getting this background info...I never once seen or heard about this accident. Nero actually has the blood of Sparda, or at least says sanctus. I figure that Vergil binded his soul to Yamato, the arm is a memento of Sparda, and that Sparda had another mate/lover. My conclusion anyways.

@LorysFan As each fight progressed Dante got stronger cos he discovered his demon form which is why he got a bit stronger than the first fight.In the second fight if you saw the cutscene it was a draw since they both ended up injuring themselves .
In the last fight Dante is stronger than Vergil.He used both the force edge AND all his weapons.you make it sound like he didnt use the yamato in the last fight >.> I would say they were evenly matched after dante found his demon form.
DMC 3 - dmc 1 - dmc 4 - dmc 2.<-- by this it was supposed to be an end.Nobody knows if thers a sequel.But its pretty much sure that in this scene,Dante remembered the past when he retreives Vergil s amulet.Which was the other piece of the amulet Dante s mom gifted the two.

About Nero is Vergils son:
If Vergil just lives in Nero´s arm, it doesn´t explain that Nero has Spardas blood. I mean, if he is possesed, he would not have the blood. Also some people say, it is not Vergils character. We know Vergil from DMC3 but not more. What about his past, his feeling, his thouhgt. We don´t know him that much to say, that he is just evil. And to say, that Nero is not like Vergil....well Dante is not like his father, Lady is not like her father. Kids are different.

@000666000 Actually, Vergil and Dante gained seperate traits from their father; Dante gained his father's rebelliousness and Vergil gained his honor and calmness. Also, Vergil doesn't have to be Nero's father in order for Nero to have Sparda's blood, there are a number of explanations. Maybe Nero was tested on by the Order or Sparda may have had other descendants.

@dathtyler13 I don't remember Lucia's grandmother ever talking to Dante about Sparda other than their deal and at the end of the game where he tells her that she doesn't need to tell him. Now, there is one possible reason why they didn't know he had demon powers, maybe they did experiment on him but he was probably a failure. Anyways, he can't be Vergil's son, the age difference between the two of them is too small.

@BlackKingOfLords It has been confirmed that Nero is Vergil's son. Also it was a really old log or whatever that told how Nero acquired the Devil Bringer, he was protecting Kyrie in Mithis Forest and a demon slashed his right arm that had awakened the demon inside of him.

This is what happened Vergil's spirit got sucked into Yamato and that's why you see a blue spirit behind Nero in DMC4 when he unleshes Yamato. But one thing I don't understand is how they took fragments of Nelo Angelo and placed them inside Bianco and Alto Angelo since there was nothing left to salvage, maybe they took parts of his soul.

I read the DMC4 novel, the ghostly-like figure that Nero has behind him is HIS soul, not Vergil's. I just want to clear that up, I'm sorry to those that think it's Vergil or Nelo Angelo. And from what the novel hints, Vergil is Nero's father, which I am not very proud about :/

Alright guys here's a theory, very similar to Ryussa's comment. Vergil, at the end of DMC3 went to go fight Mundus, having just lost to Dante he was defeated and enslaved as Nelo Angelo, who was later killed by Dante in DMC. Vergil's soul, being strong in will to continue existing did just that, wandering the lands until he found Nero, about to have his incident where he was injured protecting Kyrie, Nero wanted power to protect, power being something Vergil always wanted, he bestowed to Nero.

Nothing is explained about him before DMC3 and during the game he's bent on wiping out mankind, after which he dies fighting in the underworld. BTW, not trying to shoot you down, this is just something I've personally thought a lot about and I enjoy debating it.

@joeyd504 See, in my opinion I figured that Yamato reacted to SPARDA's power. Who else could give him an arm like that? Not even Virgil had that arm or anything of the like. So when Yamato broke (does ANYONE KNOW WHY YAMATO BROKE? PLEASE send me someone who knows...) Nero cannot be the son as he does not inherit the arm from virgil. He isn't possessed by him (or at least I think) either because he was already born with his physical features. My guess: Sparda had more than one mate.

It totally IS Vergil that's in there if anyone, and about the looks? maybe that happened after the accident, you never see Nero before it happenned anyway

@joeyd504 Huh? You see, the game never actually told what happened. It left out some questions to answer. What you say is an assumption. You could be right, but who knows? BTW I don't even know how people are getting this background info...I never once seen or heard about this accident. Nero actually has the blood of Sparda, or at least says sanctus. I figure that Vergil binded his soul to Yamato, the arm is a memento of Sparda, and that Sparda had another mate/lover. My conclusion anyways.

dante has style too, and in the end gets strogner than vergil, since V. sorta died at some point while D. continued in gathering strength and skills, so DMC4 D. > DMC3 V.
hower if compared in DMC3 V. >>> D., proven on multiple ocations, V. lost in the end mostly cos he got carelss and fought with a new weapon that he wasn't used to

but in the final attack he used force edge and you cna clearly see that before even lowered his blade enough to cut dante, relion allready performed a wide angle slash - dante was simply faster this time, yet vergil is the faster twin - explnation he waasn't used to force edge, if he'd use yamato this time he would have succeded

@LorysFan As each fight progressed Dante got stronger cos he discovered his demon form which is why he got a bit stronger than the first fight.In the second fight if you saw the cutscene it was a draw since they both ended up injuring themselves .
In the last fight Dante is stronger than Vergil.He used both the force edge AND all his weapons.you make it sound like he didnt use the yamato in the last fight >.> I would say they were evenly matched after dante found his demon form.

Vergil is dead.The story line goes like this
DMC 3 - dmc 1 - dmc 4 - dmc 2.<-- by this it was supposed to be an end.Nobody knows if thers a sequel.But its pretty much sure that in this scene,Dante remembered the past when he retreives Vergil s amulet.Which was the other piece of the amulet Dante s mom gifted the two.
