I've been reading books on farming, how to clean and keep game, survival living. Goods stuff to know. Imagine if the dollar collapsed? How would you get by? I'd take the last of my fund and buy land far out in the country and live off the land.
The "Grapes of Wrath" should be shown and the book required reading in all schools. My grandparents lost all and my father earned $l.00 a day in l939 glad to get it. Today, we have unemployment, welfare and other safe guards, but they are running out - God help us and the new President ruff times are ahead.
Great Video! My grandfather and his brothers survived by making moonshine and running moonshine. They were in the mountians of East Tennessee....hillpeople...I have pictures of them in suits, barefeet, on horse back holding mason jars of whitelightening....
Everybody should do this with their grandparents, to preserve personal histories. This is real--not an idealized, clichéd view of history. Older people all have fascinating stories to tell, and all we have to do is ask them to. But how many of us ever do? Great video.
I really enjoyed that! A big thank you to Mr. Neil Bain and everyone else involved in the making and posting of this video. I do hope the current trend of members of the older generation making and posting video accounts of their lives continues, watching them is like looking through a window into another world...
What a wonderful story - and, typical of his generation, a humble, honorable and straight-on simple man. We all could learn so much from him and his generation.
This was actually really interesting, kind of like reliving that era. I had heard stories about the Depression from my grandpa before he passed away last year, but everyone's stories are a little different! The only crappy thing was the music in the end.

Interesting, I bet before he died he realised that history was starting to repeat itself in regards the US economy.
