  • Don't forget the version sung by eric burdon on the album love is

  • Yeah, this is pretty fucking killer.

  • This song mimics the experience of LSD perfectly. The intensity comes in waves with short bursts of clarity after each wave. This is easily one of my favorite favorite psychedelic songs of all time.

  • I'm high as fuck....

  • Used to be played on Radio Caroline.I bought the 45 on a London market stall for 25 pence in the mid 1970's. Great record.

  • Just traded 3 of my lp's with local record shop owner for an original UK A-label promo copy of this single in top condition! I am so happy!! Woohoo!!

  • 2:00 so chill!!!

  • Many thanks. Took me back to the summer of 67, starting at Sussex and this being played in all the best places. Lovely.

  • Wonderful to hear Andy Summers distinctive style loud & clear, especially in the breaks between verses. Great stuff!!

  • Great song !

Is this the original version or is it Burdon on " Love Is " ?

  • @plastiqueadapte This is the original, written by band members Zoot Money and Andy Summers (The Police). Recording it later with Eric Burdon and the Animals.

  • I was introduced to this track on

    Eric Burdon's "Love Is" Album.

  • Sublime, a wonderful moment in British psyche. Thanx for a great post. Pow!!

  • Dig it!

  • Andy must play with Zoot once in life!

  • Great Stuff, heard Velvet Frogs' Jehovah yet ? That's spacey too!

  • i want to download this album...where can i get this!!!

  • Is this track called "Listen to the madman" correctly??? Btw thanks for the video.

  • Title on the single is 'The madman running through the fields'. Pleased you liked it.

  • In my book this is one of the best Psychedelic recordings ever.

  • absolute classic can be found on nuggets album tower records

  • This disc is now regarded as a high point in British psychedelia. The Chariot used to appear on stage dressed in white with white instruments and a psychedelic light show projected around them. Zoot Money and Andy Summers joined Eric Burdon's LA based New Animals when this outfit folded. This line up recorded an LP entitled "Love Is", which was released as a double LP in the States. It included a reworking (and quite a faithful one) of the Chariot's Madman Running Through The Fields.

  • Thanks for posting this. Great psychedelia, and it's great to hear Andy Summers' pre-Police things.

  • In his book Andy Summers mentions the "ringing eleventh chord" (at 00:56 in the video) which he uses years later in the intro to "Walking on the moon"...

  • @dw479 I'm reading the book right now and at this very mention of this chord I decided to look that song up on YT :)

  • @Arjozof I did the same and checked out most of the music he mentioned :) it's so nice to read about all that :)

  • A great stab of British Psych.Thank you.

  • very cool stuff; zoot mooney and colin allen recently back together again with maggie bell in british blues quintet....saw them, all sound and look great...

  • Great track,love it!

    Thanx!

  • Oh Wow. not heard this in 40 years. got a feeling one of the band members used to live in Crayford, Kent not far from me as a boy.
