Tumsabai: It still makes me swoon (no more energy for screaming); but I could feel the tears; there so much feeling in these love ballads, and this is one of the best!
@frosty7530 I caught and liked your comment here. I love and (and as a teenager used to) swoon over the pathos, the longing, in these songs. 'I almost lost my mind' listening to The Channels sing 'The Closer You Are." I'm at that age too where there is no more energy for screaming. I saw that you like the early Ann Rice. Are you referring to the Sleeping Beauty books?
One of the many popular New York/New Jersey groups of the late 50's and early 60's.
They had three successive hits from 1959 and 1960 beginning with "Just to be with You, I only want you, and Gloria." All made Billboards Top 100 and "Just to be with you became a Top 10 National Hit.
My favoite group and song of all time! It took me until 2004 to find one of their CD's and I had been looking since the 1960's. I found out from their discography that they used to perform in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn when I lived there. Maybe I passed them singing on the corner!
I'm going to check their website out, if they have one. These are some handsome, beautiful guys. I wonder if they know the impact their music they had & have on all of us fans. Can you imagine meeting them face to face. Swooning time.
Hey, was this taken from oldies 98 street corner sunday? At the end it sounded like Harvey Holiday (DJ for the station)? I live in Philly and listen every sunday night!
I'm too young to remember this as a current song (I was about 7 or 8 at that time). I know this an oldie "standard," but how popular was it at the time? Was it a hit? Or perhaps a local hit?
Hey M1- don't worry about idiots like BigJohnnySmith- it seems to me he's got some issues, especially since he comes across knowing so much about the subject of homosexuality. Love the songs, keep up the good work and thanks for the memories.
Deressing, definately not! The reson why i listen to it is because it gives me that warm feeling inside that real music is supposed to give you and is really soothing. Secondly, we cant all give in to rap (which is really bull S**t), just because its what the mass media listens too. Create your own story and enjoy what you like and be proud of it. Doo wop delivers the best sound imaginable in music for me, oh sure I like 80s rock too but nothing beats the wonderfully UPLIFTING sounds of doo wop.
LOVE THIS !

This music was mostly about guys romanizing girls.
And the girls loved it. The guys dressed nice in their
suits and sang romantic, harmonized songs to the girls.
That was 1956 to 1963, the doo-wop era. Of course their was
danceable rock and roll too!!
