They needed to get credit for this episode by making Superman the 'bad guy' of it. Luthor played on Superman's hatred of him to attack and beat down a fellow super hero and Leaguer which led Marvel to resign at the end. Superman had nobody to blame but himself: he got PLAYED....BADLY. I felt bad for Marvel at the end: "You guys aren't my heroes anymore." Ouch. And who could blame him?
