great lookin plane frank. I agree with SomeUselessGeek on the canards. If you make them full floating with a gyro that thing will fly like a dream. Not saying it doesnt fly like a dream now. It will always feel slightly pitchy with stationary canards at higher speeds. Its like putting little parachutes on the front. Good luck with the rest of the build cant wait to see it finished.
good job Frank !!!! That plane was moving pretty quick at one point I think it’s going to be fast after you get it all trimmed up you’ll be able to have a full speed run
You're not done yet. Leave the elevons just as they are. Move the nose wheel servo and its bulkhead farther forward if at all possible. If you can give that huge battery some more forward room you won't need any balancing weight. Relocate the nose wheel if you must.
The real trick is with the canards. Cut them loose and make them full floating, then hook 'em up to an inexpensive rate gyro. This is how real fighter aircraft operate, so it's good enough for us, too. PM me to discuss it.
Forgot to mention, you also want to smooth the inlets, carving the foam on the inside to blend to the outside surface. That way the air gets compressed as it comes in the inlet. You aren't burning fuel, but the fan will have denser air to work with, and that'll make the plane go faster.
I would probably just trim the canards 50% and see how it flies then (just because I like the look of canards). I like its floatyness too. congrats on a great maiden Frank. please don't make us wait another year to see the paint job with the canopy!
certainly tail-heavy even on the second flight => slows it down => makes it climb less. Don't cut the control-surfaces. Paul might be right about the canards, if you can test it without them.
95% Expo, 50% travel and you'll be good XD

Good job on the plane man, I have been waiting for that thing for a long time. That plane is huge, nice work though on the blue foam.

Hey Frank, I must say that this is in my view your best build yet, love the mirge/eurofighter/F-102 style to it. Great job man.
FlyHighRC386 8 months ago
you should put a kf airfoil on the wing and canard
and check if the canard is level it looks weird in the video
and you could probably use the canopy it self as nose weight
:)
