true, they take a long time but you can reduce cooking time dramatically by pre-soaking them for at least 24 hours. the short answer is about 4 hours but realistically it depends on the conditions of course. i'm from texas and you can easily over-cook things here if you're not careful. btw, i can make some mean pork ribs in the solar cooker too.
Be careful with red, white and other beans. Some beans literally become poisonous if they are not brought up to high enough temperatures once they have been soaked.
