@K3KCT Some of the most amazing singers in the world do it too. Joplin did it, Joe Cocker does it, Ian Curtis did it. If that's the case, it works for me.
@Rushynet Mate, those people you mentioned did it from the very beginning of their careers, Eddi introduced it later and became such a dick. 'Perfect' was great - no hands or pseudo arty gestures. I bet she alienated a whole section of her audience with this shit?
Someone really ought to advise her - where the hell are her so-called friends?
Eddi takes her music to the people that love her and she loves them straight back. She sings from her heart and if she wants to wave her arms like she does,I would suggest it's the least of your problems.
its a good song and i like her voice, but i bet i can tell you why shes not selling platinum albums and making music videos .... that stupid thing she does with her right arm - its weird
Oh dear..this song has made me think about what I should be doing..but I'm not. Many years ago I shared a squat in London with Eddi for a few weeks and TD asked me to support a few times whilst I was a singer called ME and before I started wearing blue and brown and started working for the clampdown. Eddi had the voice of an angel then ans still has. If you don't know she is the voice singing the REALLY GOOD bits on early Eurythmics songs such as sweet dreams
The song is on 'Mirmama' - her first solo album, & a real cracker.
I don't know everything she's done, but 'Bell, Book and Candle' from Angels & Electricity is great watch?v=7lXAfqY0CEo & the whole 'Eddi Reader' album is very good.
& going back a bit, the Fairground Attraction album, "First of a Million Kisses" was very good too.
Certainly one of my favourites, it just sounds like she put her all into it.
Her new one, while IMO not perfect, is very good & has some really sweet moments on it.
The sad but beautiful story of how she came to write & record it is on her myspace.
I saw Fairground Attraction play 20 years ago & they were just sublime, then I went to see Eddi, drummer Roy Dodds, Boo Hewerdine & band last November & they were amazing too.
They're on tour now - go see! (details on myspace & Eddi's web)
I think it's an OK version... but why can't I find 'That's Fair' on Youtube?

Wtf! This is a terrible version of a great song. Sorry Eddie, you are a great singer but this version sounds lacklustre.

For those of you bothered by her hand gestures.....close your eyes!!!

it just looks like shes trying to disperse a fart. Its not in sync with the music and is just random.

What the hell's she doing with her hands? She is such a dick for doing this.

@davy4457
she has a wonderful voice but she expresses herself in a cringeworthy artificial way, as though acting natural, just acting.

I'm a big fan of Thomas Dolby.
Genious.
First saw Eddie Reader many years before she was signed, singing at a Jazz Gig in Kilmarnock some...27? years ago?
Nice singing Eddie and so you know, the Scirrocco souls are all still knocking about.
Larry, Spike, Clark etc.
Even The Longhorns are back together looking for gigs. ;)

I listen to her every morning... this singer and this song especially make me feel more active and think different, I guess.

Did Si Kahn ever record / release this?
I'd be keen to hear it, if he did.
A superb song.
