The match is a little slow, but keep in mind that these guys are over 40 and also look at WAllace, he's gassed already but just by watching this fight, you can tell that he's packing quite a lot of power behind those kicks.
What happened to the legit, credible karate like in the 70's/80's? We had people like Chuck Norris, Bill Wallace, Joe Lewis, Benny Uriquidez,Billy Blanks,Don Wilson and Van Damme-most of them did point fighting and won full contact; suddenly point fighting has a bad rep!
my theory on this mma talk about ground in the street is it comes from brazilians who are generally latins, italy and portugal descent, mostly lightheavies at best.so they dont punch as hard so they throw a couple then grab and grapplin usually ends on ground.Where Im from most fights end in standup, two three punches and its over, lot of big heavyweights in my country, samoans, tongans, maori all heavy hitters
@KobraXXD I met him in Ju Jitsu World Championship in Croatia on 28.08.2011 , he held a seminar there , men , he was amazing ! He still can kick ! And + he is a great guy ! and also very relaxed
@LedWilde 1990. Since 1970 the fights had become softer and more rules were added. Even though the PKA still fought with points, the Sport was still way to brutal.
What is with all these comments cutting down fighters? None of these guys were or are cowards. They all added something to the sport or art. When you step in the ring with one of them, then you can talk smack. Until then STFU about who did or said what, and be thankful that generation brought us this generation.
The first thing I do when watching bouts like this, is mute the audio because I hate listening to the moronic drivel of the sports commentators. Bunch of 'has been, washed up, wannabes with big mouths" yeah, I know they're just trying to make a buck because they are washed up and retired due to some lame injury, but they aren't accurate at all and mostly they are just irritating. -Jeeem-
@mikeshredder233 Point fighting FULL CONTACT are you kidding?Well its obvious you have never laced on gloves or for that matter been in a fight. Why dont you ask JOE LEWIS if he thinks POINT FIGHTING is actual combat.I know what he will say.NO.Why dont you watch some of Chucks KARATE KID MATCHES because thats what they were and then watch say someone like BENNY the JET URQUIDEZ or BILL and JOE.Yeah they all competed in POINT matches but all of them stepped up to the next level except CHUCK.
@escrimaguy Are you kidding me dude? Just an action star? DO your research Bruce lee knows Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do. He was trained by Yip Man A very skilled fighter. Bruce lee could take both of these guys. Joe and Bill are such slow fighters and Bruce lee is fast. Go watch his old training videos and stuff.
@escrimaguy CORRECTION**** BILL AND JOE WERE fighers in th ring. They were in competition. Bruce did not wast his time with the sport aspect of fighting, he was a street fighter. The closest thing to what bruce did was MMA. Bill OR Joe would not have been good MMA fighters. Bruce was WAYYYYY more rounded as a fighter then they were. Learn about bruce lee before you comment. The mear fact that said that Bruce was just an action star shows your ignorance.
@escrimaguy Well, I beg to differ. I don't know what the outcome would have been, but Bruce's self-made style of martial art plus his devoted training would definitely have made an impact. It is well chronicled his attack on an opponent in a U.S. gymnasium, where he knocked a guy (not sure whether he kicked or punched him) practically the length of the gym and ended up hospitalizing him. The sheer power of Lee was phenomenal...guess we'll never know. -Jeeem-
@sirupate. Hello Simon, it's a waste of time trying to educate some people. The Bruce Lee worshippers will always believe that BL was the greatest fighter ever.
@escrimaguy Not Bruce Lee worshipers, just COMMON SENSE and intelligenece. I would say bruce would take any of these guys in a REAL fight. What is wrong with that? so does the majority of the martial arts community. Especially the PROVEN street fighters of the day. They said that Bruce could take anybody, anywhere, any size and it did not matter how good the other guy claimed to be. They fought bruce daily and knew how good he really was. They could not touch him. GET EDUCATED
this fight was yrs ago.Joe was 46 and Bill was 45 here and they are both in their 60's now or even 70 now.Pretty good fight although Joe say's he was told before the fight to hold back.
@mannybrucesalvador, it was in 1990, they were doing a demo fight, they were both under an obligation to hold back lol, although Bill's left hook punch certainly hurt Joe.
why do you call Boxing... English Boxing ? but in fact boxing was first used by Sumerians evening the Romain had it before the English... but all you english done for the sport was create prizefighting Bare knuckle boxing and add some rules into the game.. and you think you have the right to call it English Boxing...
@foleybarbarian It's called English Boxing (Usually called Western Boxing by Easterners) because the English made it a international thing. People who were around during the time of its "flowering" didn't have the tools to go that far back into history any time they wanted, so how would they know who first created it? Thing are named by what the public wants to name it, if Sumerian Boxing caught on it would have stuck, besides ,you understood what he meant by English Boxing so why correct him
@MrRagaRaga Why no just call it pugilism then. i don't care what some one calls boxing, But don't come out and Say Bruce Lee has nothing! He trained with one of our time Greatest Master Yip Man, Bruce Lee, trained in four kinds of Kung Fu and Boxing, he was the person that showed the World MMA, he was the main Creator of MMA.. Yes hes Career took him more into Film making. and made him, he also created one of the best fighting style around. Jeet Kung DO
With all due respects for the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. If a BJJ practitioner fought according to these rules, you may find they would get their ass handed to them by some of these guys. It's the reason BJJ was kicking ass in the UFC at the start. When boxers and kick-boxers learned grappling, Royce Gracy got his ass handed to him. BJJ no longer dominates; Why?
@xprezitgmail that's because NO style no longer dominates, most people train in multiple styles particularly striking and grappling. me personally I train bjj as a white belt and muay thai. it's all about the fighter, not the style of course
We invite the fans of Bill Wallace to see his complete 12 rounds of his retirement fight on CBS by visiting xwarrior.tv and click on the legends section
Goddamn! Bill Wallace lost a testicle during a competition when his cup was struck at an unfortunate angle. He had to lose a ball for an average Joe to even come close to being half the man he is, this guy is a serious badass.
@JeetKuneDoKa haha i like how easy you show things. just a few muay thai kicks to the front leg and he is done! you think this guy cant evade you? what a joke
@JeetKuneDoKa : Bill Wallace was undefeated as a middleweight kickboxer, with 13 out of 23 wins by knockout, several of which came from kicks. He would probably not have been well equipped to face a skilled Thai fighter, given that he didn't have comparable shin conditioning, and only had one good leg (the right one is in a brace, that's why he does all the kicking with his left,) but his kicks definitely had knockout power. Think lead straight, not jab.
@JeetKuneDoKa, You talk from ignorance about Bill, he won the 1974 World Championships, when his opponent Bernd Grothe hit his left leg with a round kick to the hamstrings, Bill used the momentum to knock out Gernd with a hook kick, amazing control and skill, plus if he was allowed to use his Judo as well against a Thai boxer, Thai boxer would loose, and if you don't think I know what I'm talking about, I have had many champions in both Kick and Thai boxing.
@JeetKuneDoKa, oh so wrong, Bill's winning kick in the 1974 World Champions, was when a kick hit his hamstring, and he used the momentum to knock the guy out with a hook kick, also what is to stop him using an underhook and right cross?
Maybe I asked the wrong question. Does everyone think Bill's style would work as far as self-defense against some big fat bully with punching power concerned?
With all respect for both of them, I've seen Lewis in Amsterdam. But against a low kicks K1 fighter from today they don't stay to long, that's the power, speed and effect behind it! Hope to see a American fighter back in K1. They were great in the 70-80's.
Hypothetical question for you old school martial artists: Say there was a tournament with the following fighters, in the their prime, who would win in your opinion?
In point fighting, it would be a toss-up between Norris and Wallace only if the rules favor more kicks and less sweeps. In kickboxing, it would be Don Wilson, who had the better oppositions and more fights than the others in the list.
Poor Superfoot, he had 2 things going against him....He's only 166 lbs vs. 199 lbs. And, Superfoot's strength was speed and Joe Lewis' strength was strength... At mid 40s, the first thing to go is speed and the last is strength.
This was an EXHIBITION match. It had NOTHING to do with either man's legitimate kick-boxing record. Wallace was a MIDDLEWEIGHT, Lewis a HEAVYWEIGHT. The weight difference precluded a legitimate full-contact bout. Don't go bananas over who scored the most points, whose kicks were better than whose punches, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Neither man went all-out, and neither should have --
hes been coming to my taekwondo school every year for the past 4 years. my sensai is one of wallaces students and theyre good friends. last time he was at my school was last weekend. he taught us the secret of sparring.
well, wallace definitely scored often with his left leg. I wouldn't say that either of them were taking it easy, but all this fight was, was for show.
I didn't know about Joe's ego, except for seeing someone with a "I TRAINED WITH A LEGEND" shirt from some seminar. I don't know about Superfoot's either, but I'm not a fan of his column in Blackbelt Magazine. Seemed arrogant. Fuck it! They earned the right to boast.
I think Wallace's well known eating habit might have contributed his gray hair. Wallace has been known for eating hamburgers and french fries as his primary food sources. For some unknown reason, the eating practice has worked well for him.
i think some royce gracie's stand up techniques were effective he had a good headbutt and knee strike allot of these fighting legends are no match for todays fighters who are bigger faster stronger and are taking nutritional supplements and possibly steroids
@jblaze708, Gracie's stand up was pretty awful, his Judo was pretty good, but both Joe and Bill were excellent wrestlers to, something people tend to forget!!
@sirupate BRUCE no match for them? STOP listen to your Self, Bruce Lee, CREATED MMA,, BRUCE LEE has one of the Most Damaging Fighting Styles ever Made JE KUN DO HE TRAINED WITH THE GREATEST MASTER OF ALL TIME "ip Kai-Man" he Trained BRUCE with the Best Figthing Style China Knows today Wing Chun, Wing Chun is a Street fighting Style to help people overcome bigger people.. you dont have Clue what your Blowing on about.. go back Sucking Gracies BALLS
@foleybarbarian,LOL your ignorance is amazing!!! MMA has been going on for hundreds of years, even in England in 1898 they had a mixed MMA style called Bartitsu, and way back in Greek and Roman times they superb overall systems.
If Wing Chun is so good why did Bruce have to change it? it is a very limited style, also you don't see pro fighters using Wing Chun stuff, cause it ain't good enough!
I have never met Gracie, but his groundwork Judo is good.
@sirupate you dont see pro fighters using any Kung Fu Style do you? but i would'nt go very far stating its limited. Sharlion Kung Fu has its students using their body the way the West can not image to use it.
Bruce lee and same goes for Norris got their names from being in Movies, but were Fighters but came to be knowing more for their Films.. Bruce Lee took up alot of Arts, and took what he need for himself. only American would State that Bruce lee would not Stand anychance with Lewis etc.
@foleybarbarian, Of course Wing Chun is limited, that is why Bruce Lee added to it! Chuck Norris made his name by being a professional Tournament World Champion, unlike Bruce, who never fought at top level, and Lee never sparred with any of those guys!
@sirupate Chuck Norris a pro are you kidding me!! A pro at what KARATE KID POINT MATCH TOURNAMENTS please give me a break. Those fights from the 60's SUCK especially CHUCK NORRIS matches!!BRUCE at least fought REAL FIGHTS between 59-64 he was challenged numerous times by KARATE Experts wanting to shut his mouth and then being challenged and beating the best KUNG FU MAN in the bay area.Bruce fought for real.He didnt have time for CRAP KARATE KID matches where you cant slug a guy in the mouth!!
@mannybrucesalvador, Lol, the best Kung Fu man in the bay area? who told you that, Bruce? lol Fact Lee did not spar or fight any top USA pro fighters, including Chuck Norris. Fact Bruce Lee never fought in any points competition. Fact Bruce Lee never fought in any full contact competition. Fact Bruce Lee was a Martial Arts film Star. Fact Bruce Lee was a Martial Arts Teacher.
@sirupate Thats right he was challenged for teaching NON-CHINESE a NO NO at the time.He was presented with an ultimatum by Elders from the Oakland chinese community if he lost close the school and stop teaching.HIGH STAKES wouldn't you say?The Kung Fu man he fought was named WONG JACK MAN.BRUCE had been challenged before in Seattle by Karate men but this fight was a life changing event for him. This was the fight that made him question his ART.You are right he never competed in KARATE KID MATCHES
@sirupate because to him that wasn't real combat.Full contact fighting didnt exist here in the states till the mid 70's and BRUCE was DEAD.CHUCK NORRIS hates to admit it today because he is famous but he was a student of BRUCE LEE's and they did spar where CHUCK got schooled and he never did it again. He also said way back in the day that BRUCE would kick his ass but he has amnesia and wont ever admit to that now. There is a documentary called BRUCE LEE- The Intercepting Fist on YOUTUBE watch it
@mannybrucesalvador, don't give me that crap, full contact had existed in Japan from the 60's, Thailand many moons before that, and in the states from 1970, Lee had plenty of opportunity!!
That is complete bollocks, Chuck Norris has never been quoted as saying that. You also seem to ignore the fact that Norris is the one that converted Lee into the potential in high kicking, but you don't see Norris using using any Bruce Lee stuff, do you? before Norris met Lee, he was already combining styles!
@sirupate Just hype well tell that to the WONG JACK MAN in Oakland.Low grade Karate -ka Chinese & Japanese stuntmen in BANGKOK THAILAND yeah right you really think they had that kind of budget to bring stuntmen from HONG KONG NOPE they hired from right there on location.Chuck Norris was famous before he met BRUCE LEE REALLY NOW.He won his 1st belt in 68 and he was still unknown. That belt is meaningless like all those KARATE KID FIGHTS he had. Chuck wasnt a house hold name until he appeared in
@sirupate Bruce Lee's movie. Bruce was old school he called himself a student master and in the old days the master's would challenge and be challenged hence the Karate Men in Seattle & WJM in Oakland.Their was no money, title or trophy just the prestige from winning.SORRY but JOE LEWIS himself said he and CHUCK NORRIS were his students but CHUCK is famous now and will never admit to that. You really need to do more research on BRUCE MATE.Why would a fighter like JL study under a guy he can beat
@mannybrucesalvador, I have talked to Joe Lewis about mate lol, he said that they worked out together, yes he wanted to see what Bruce had to offer, and vice versa, but he found Lee's teaching contradictory, so he stopped working out with Lee, Joe Lewis is a gentleman, and a great Philosopher, and a real fighter, certainly Lee did teach him some stuff, and Lewis would always give credit were credit is due, a shame Lee didn't do the same!!!
@sirupate I wouldn't would you?I mean this is MA I would expect for my teacher to be a BADASS more than me!!Well Chuck never had a REAL FIGHT at least JL was a boxer under CUS Damato the man who led MIKE TYSON to the HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE.CUS thought he could make JL a Champion during the ALI exile yrs 67-70 but JL decided to compete in the KARATE KID TOURNAMENTS.NO DUMMY HE.You dont get hit there.Yeah you gotta point Bruce didnt believe in kicking above the waist and CHUCK said a MA should be able
@sirupate to kick anywhere.Bruce agreed but CHUCK has never been in a REAL FIGHT where their are no RULES.BRUCE is the only one who fought real fights and you and I know if you fall to the ground for any reason you will probably get your ass kicked!!BRUCE knew the danger in kicking high in a REAL fight but CHUCK doesn't.Yeah Bruce had his chance and if he had lived in Japan or Thailand maybe he would have competed in the sport but not the CRAP here in the USA.Chuck had a chance & never tried.
@sirupate CHUCK retired in 70 strange he always mentions when he went to do the movie with BRUCE he still held that weak ass belt and you say there was full contact fights in 70?I dont think they were all out yet but if CHUCK was retired or if he was still the CHAMP like he say's he was then he should have stepped up to that next level. But NO WAY were talking about CHUCK here.Have you ever seen his match with SKIPPER MULLINS?Well if you never have you can see it here on YOUTUBE.This is a weak
@sirupate exhibition like all those fights from that era but this fight shows how weak your hero was also.Chuck gets hit in the mouth by accident with a weak right hand and immediatly grabs his mouth everything stops to give him time to recover. The funny part about it he looked HURT!!SORRY MATE YOUR BOY HAD A GLASS JAW!!Bruce kicked anywhere to the body but wouldnt recommend it if you were not a good kicker and suggested to keep your kicks waist high.JOE shouldnt have been in the ring with BILL
@sirupate for this match he outweighs him by 33lbs.This really should have been CHUCK fighting BILL but again NO WAY!! I heard that CHUCK QUIT after 30 seconds of SPARRING with BENNY the JET URQUIDEZ way back in the day!!SOME CHAMP.I tell you what if BRUCE knew his days were numbered he would have probably tried to call everyone he knew to say thank you its a shame that some of those friends now try to downplay and belittle his talent and contribution to the arts.Your two hero's CN & JL SUCK!!
@mannybrucesalvador hey, why don't you go find JL and tell that to his face, he's prolly about sixty years old now, maybe you can take him, if he ties one arm behind his back!
@mannybrucesalvador That's because Bruce Lee was not a fighter. In fact, when he "trained" with those guys he wouldn't even spar with them at all. He was just trying to hype himself up and further his mystique among Kung Fu movie fanboys who knew nothing about fighting. These two legends, on the other hand, were actual fighters and champions. They actually DID what Bruce Lee could not do. To compare Bruce to THEM is disgusting.
@Ljenkins9000 your joking right? Bruce was much deadlier with his hands than either one of these guys.Joe and Chuck Norris hate to admit it today especially Chuck but they both called him teacher at one time. They call it working out together now but they are lying.those of us who have been around for a while and have watched their careers no-better.
@mannybrucesalvador No, for both sentences. Even Davis Miller, author of Tao of Bruce Lee quoted unstantly 2 persons who could beat Bruce ( Lewis and Lebell ). Also credited him as Marial Artist and as having knowledge, but not as tested fighter. They didn't called him teacher, actually Bruce wanted to know them and ran to them, not vice-versa.According some sources ( Miller, Wall) they thaught Bruce to kick.
@vaggoner Sorry WRONG!! Joe Lewis himself called Bruce Lee one of his teachers he learned from over the yrs.Gene Labelle and Bruce were friends and never fought. They met on the set of the Green Hornet series where Gene was a stunt man.He recalls the time he grabbed Bruce and threw him over his shoulders and ran up and down a flight of stairs.Bruce was pissed he says but they never fought instead became friends and began working out together where Bruce began working on his grappling with Gene.
@vaggoner According to Gene he would put Bruce in a rear naked choke where he says Bruce would not Tap or Pass out. They would argue over whether Gene would release him if he bit him.Gene says he wouldnt but they never fought for real so the scenario never played itself out instead they worked out together and Gene says Bruce loved to wrestle and grapple.Personally I think Bruce was a deadlier Martial artist than Gene was.He had better hands which made him very dangerous in a real fight.
@mannybrucesalvador that was for sure an friendly applying of a rear naked choke from Lebell. If someone is put in a rnc (supposed to finish the fight) he woult tap out or will pass out.No matter is is Bruce, Fedor or Batman. Any living being needs to breath. There are cases with brawls when the attacker was under drugs and was able to fight with broken jaw and completely destroyed by strikes. And the other one solved the situation with a choke.
"Have you ever seen his match with SKIPPER MULLINS?Well if you never have you can see it here on YOUTUBE.This is a weak "
don't looks like too much, indeed, but neither Bruce 1967 full contact Sparring : watch?v=AVD1KQ2EVog
At least in point fights there was supposed to be under control (and no sparring gear). Is far behind compare to next era of full contact, but so is Bruce's sparring as well compare with this match above. And once again, he wore protection.
@mannybrucesalvador Joe Lewis and Chuck Norris were already champions when Bruce Lee showed up. All he had done were movies. And that's all he ever did. You know as well as I do that Bruce Lee teaching them is as ridiculous and Steven Seagal teaching Anderson Silva and Machida. It was a bullshit publicity stunt which helped Bruce Lee's mysticism grow. Because of it, people like you believe actors like him were better than professional fighters. His fighting prowess is more fantasy than reality.
@Ljenkins9000 Champions in what? Karate Kid tournaments.Cmon.Sure Bruce was an actor on tv but he was also a SIFU in the martial arts community. He was teaching before his acting career took off in the states.Joe Lewis himself agreed with Bruce that the point match tournaments he and Chuck Norris competed in was not real combat.Bruce is also the only one out of the three to get into real fights. Both Joe and Chuck have never been in a real fight in their entire lives. Bruce was challenged several
Joe Lewis was the founder of American Kickboxing. Yes, Chuck Norris was a Karate champion. That's better than having done absolutely nothing, like Bruce Lee. However, Karate in the US back in the 60s was full contact, often bare knuckle, and VERY competitive. It wasn't pussified until the 80s.
"Joe Lewis himself agreed with Bruce that the point match tournaments he and Chuck Norris competed in was not real"
Yes, and then he went on to INVENT American Kickboxing. Bruce Lee refused to compete in this as well.
"Both Joe and Chuck have never been in a real fight in their entire lives"
Everyone has been in the kind of real fights Bruce Lee has been in. Fighting untrained skinny Hong Kong bums or getting in fights in high school does NOT compare to competing with professional fighters.
@Ljenkins9000 Karate full contact in the 60s and competitive.Have you seen the footage of that crap.Every fight looks the same. They look like they are playing TAG.The reason they are bare knuckle is because their is no striking to the face.Watch Norris vs Skipper Mullins and notice what happens when Chuck gets hit in the face.I laugh every time I see it. You really think Karate Kid tournaments make someone a pro.Sorry I disagree.Joe Lewis is a pro but not someone like Chuck Norris.
@mannybrucesalvador "You really think Karate Kid tournaments make someone a pro.Sorry I disagree."
No I never said that. All I said was that competing there is better than never competing in anything, like Bruce Lee. Joe Lewis was a Kickboxing champion and legend. That's a bit different from point sparring. He was light years beyond Bruce and I think deep down you know it.
@Ljenkins9000 You must think that I think Bruce could have put on gloves and step into the ring and go rounds with Joe.NO I DONT!! Bruce would get knocked out in the 1st rnd.I do believe Bruce's Kung Fu was better than Joe's Karate. In a real fight Joe would have been hurt because MA like Bruce work on their art daily waiting for real challenges.Thats how it was done in the old country and Bruce lived that way.Bruce met Joe and Chuck Norris in 68.By then he had been challenged to real fights
You really never saw something like this, like this exercise, it"s something new? It sounds something cheap if the people cling on this thing in order to prove something about Bruce.
"Bruce met Joe and Chuck Norris in 68" well, so this is set.Could you explain me this aspect? : Bruce met Chuck in Nov 1968, when CN won his first title. When you go to the video " CN, Joe Lewis and Mike Stone...students of Bruce Lee?" there is on the screen the Bruce's note paper....continue
...and there is write as CN would have been scheduled for training at 14.30 pm. But in the note paper stay the date 19 January, Friday. So, how could Bruce train a man which he meet first 10 Months later? This does not sound like some false notice in order to upset this aspect for the future? I asked the video owner the same question, my post is still uploaded there.
and once again...between JL and BL was the same and predictable scenario uke-nage, not a free sparring. If there would have been a sparring (no matter if then or with other occasions) and Bruce could have been better, there would have been tons of evidences and footage about (would have been one of the best possible proof on how great fighter Bruce was).As far that never existed, and Bruce never tried, resorting just at uke-nage scenario is a sign then Bruce knew something.
@vaggoner Yeah well like I said Joe first says he sucker punched me then later says no we were working on timing. But you are right Bruce knew something and I think Bruce's Kung Fu was superior to Joe's Karate.Joe challenged Bruce to a fight and Bruce accepted but they never fought. In a real fight Joe gets his leg broke. The date your asking for is probably a misprint because they met in New York.
"In a real fight Joe gets his leg broke." once again, we can presume this or that. How many people, as many assumptions. But there is a very simple reasoning:
--many people (and for good reason) call into doubt the worthy of Bruce's opponents. For example "Uechi" is mentioned as "a black belt". Nobody in the world has any idea if he ever fought before meet Bruce. Gary Elms was hyped, from a schoolboy they called him "british boxing champ". Several unknown guys (continue).
"Joe would have been hurt because MA like Bruce work on their art daily waiting for real challenges."
Without sparring or competition you are not really working on anything useful. Similarly, if you shoot hoops all day, every day for a million years but never actually play basketball with other people, you are not going to be able to beat the LA Lakers. Understand?
MA without sparring is like learning to swim on land. And yes, the Olympic swimmers will still beat you in the deadly ocean.
@Ljenkins9000 Hey he sparred enough with some of his closer friends and trained like a mad man.Chuck Norris himself said No One in Ma trained harder than Bruce.LaBelle said he loved to wrestle and grapple.Dude the man ran 6 miles twice a day.Dan Inosanto said he and Bruce were talking about how good Joe Lewis was and Bruce remarked yeah I am going to teach him BUT I wont teach him how to beat me.The man was confident in what he could do.Thats why he worked with Lewis and Norris for over 2 yrs.
...aren't the Bruce's invention. For instance, karate Okinawa include something like this, thing which Lewis practiced and was black belt. It seems you confuse him with an untrained people.
--If you still worry about his knee, they could use sparring gear, as far Bruce used that in his 1967 sparring with Taki Kymura
--talking about that sparring, it's really not impressive. After all story's told about him up that moment, there was a lot more to expect.Of course....
@vaggoner spent his whole career concentrating on ring work.Thats a different approach to the arts from what Bruce was doing.MA like Bruce Lee and William Cheung trained on a daily basis on how to literally destroy someone the fastest way possible.Kickboxers prepare for fights in a ring bound by rules. Both Lee and Cheung would never lace on gloves and face Lewis he would knock either one out.But in a real fight Bruce and Williams Kung Fu is deadlier than Joe's Karate.I choose to be the deadlier.
...we can argue for and against, there could be written many text lines about that. But perhaps the most notable post there are those who ask "which of them is Bruce Lee?". So neutral people who don't know details about what's happen there are unable to make a clear difference of skills between the greatest ever and a man nowhere recognized and cited as great. What could you say them?
@Ljenkins9000 do some research on Bruce.Chuck Norris himself said no one in MA trained harder than LEE. believe it or not but their was a time when Chuck Norris would admit readily he could not beat BRUCE.Those days are long gone left in the 70's.
@mannybrucesalvador Bruce Lee may have trained hard, but he did not spar and he did not compete. He's the guy who was always afraid to get in the water at the pool and practices swimming on land, yet thinks he would beat Olympic swimmers as long as it's not in the pool where there are rules, but in the deadly ocean.
@Ljenkins9000 Well put except he wasnt afraid to get in the ocean.Dan Inosanto recalled when he and Bruce met back in the mid 60's he had competed in a tournament and placed 2nd.He proudly showed Bruce his trophy and Bruce said pretty good but thats not real fighting.Dan argued so finally Bruce said ok come at me with your karate. So I did says Dan and found out right away he was right as I got my ASS Kicked.Bob Dylon the singer after a show in VEGAS said Bruce Lee kicked 2 of his bodyguards ass.
...by Lebell (and it continues to be trained) they cancelled the scheduled event ( a fight between him and Royce). I don't know which is the true version (and perhaps they are very few who know), but would be no big wonder if Urquidez version would be true.
@vaggoner Yeah I doubt Boztepe is a skilled grappler also but someone like Gracie now he would be a challenge for Bennie.Too bad they never fought that would have been a great match.Gracie would be NO match for Bennie in the stand up but on the ground. That would be where he would like to take the fight no doubt.Bruce Lee said most fights end up on the ground so I would have to give the edge to Gracie but I would be cheering for BENNIE.
@mannybrucesalvador Yet two more accounts of street fights nobody else saw and again conveniently were not captured on film. I wonder why he was never arrested for going around and beating up all these guys. Maybe the cops knew their tazers and guns could not work on Bruce and were afraid.
No fkin lowkicks... Pfffff....

my theory on this mma talk about ground in the street is it comes from brazilians who are generally latins, italy and portugal descent, mostly lightheavies at best.so they dont punch as hard so they throw a couple then grab and grapplin usually ends on ground.Where Im from most fights end in standup, two three punches and its over, lot of big heavyweights in my country, samoans, tongans, maori all heavy hitters

What is with all these comments cutting down fighters? None of these guys were or are cowards. They all added something to the sport or art. When you step in the ring with one of them, then you can talk smack. Until then STFU about who did or said what, and be thankful that generation brought us this generation.
ajabberwock 8 months ago
The first thing I do when watching bouts like this, is mute the audio because I hate listening to the moronic drivel of the sports commentators. Bunch of 'has been, washed up, wannabes with big mouths" yeah, I know they're just trying to make a buck because they are washed up and retired due to some lame injury, but they aren't accurate at all and mostly they are just irritating. -Jeeem-
jimbad1 9 months ago
@mikeshredder233 Point fighting FULL CONTACT are you kidding?Well its obvious you have never laced on gloves or for that matter been in a fight. Why dont you ask JOE LEWIS if he thinks POINT FIGHTING is actual combat.I know what he will say.NO.Why dont you watch some of Chucks KARATE KID MATCHES because thats what they were and then watch say someone like BENNY the JET URQUIDEZ or BILL and JOE.Yeah they all competed in POINT matches but all of them stepped up to the next level except CHUCK.

I'm still wondering how this is considered a kickboxing fight. Looks more like a N.A.S.K.A fight
kingmanny57 10 months ago
Bruce Lee would have stood no chance against either of these guys. Bruce was just an action film star. Lewis and Wallace were full contact champions.
escrimaguy 11 months ago
@escrimaguy Are you kidding me dude? Just an action star? DO your research Bruce lee knows Jun Fan Gung Fu and Jeet Kune Do. He was trained by Yip Man A very skilled fighter. Bruce lee could take both of these guys. Joe and Bill are such slow fighters and Bruce lee is fast. Go watch his old training videos and stuff.
ShadowManV3 11 months ago
@escrimaguy CORRECTION**** BILL AND JOE WERE fighers in th ring. They were in competition. Bruce did not wast his time with the sport aspect of fighting, he was a street fighter. The closest thing to what bruce did was MMA. Bill OR Joe would not have been good MMA fighters. Bruce was WAYYYYY more rounded as a fighter then they were. Learn about bruce lee before you comment. The mear fact that said that Bruce was just an action star shows your ignorance.
viper2808 11 months ago
@escrimaguy Well, I beg to differ. I don't know what the outcome would have been, but Bruce's self-made style of martial art plus his devoted training would definitely have made an impact. It is well chronicled his attack on an opponent in a U.S. gymnasium, where he knocked a guy (not sure whether he kicked or punched him) practically the length of the gym and ended up hospitalizing him. The sheer power of Lee was phenomenal...guess we'll never know. -Jeeem-

LVSWTZ 11 months ago
@escrimaguy Not Bruce Lee worshipers, just COMMON SENSE and intelligenece. I would say bruce would take any of these guys in a REAL fight. What is wrong with that? so does the majority of the martial arts community. Especially the PROVEN street fighters of the day. They said that Bruce could take anybody, anywhere, any size and it did not matter how good the other guy claimed to be. They fought bruce daily and knew how good he really was. They could not touch him. GET EDUCATED

why do you call Boxing... some Ego your having,
foleybarbarian 1 year ago
@foleybarbarian It's called English Boxing (Usually called Western Boxing by Easterners) because the English made it a international thing. People who were around during the time of its "flowering" didn't have the tools to go that far back into history any time they wanted, so how would they know who first created it? Thing are named by what the public wants to name it, if Sumerian Boxing caught on it would have stuck, besides ,you understood what he meant by English Boxing so why correct him

BJJ no longer dominates; Why?
xprezitgmail 1 year ago
@xprezitgmail that's because NO style no longer dominates, most people train in multiple styles particularly striking and grappling. me personally I train bjj as a white belt and muay thai. it's all about the fighter, not the style of course

@JeetKuneDoKa haha i like how easy you show things. just a few muay thai kicks to the front leg and he is done! you think this guy cant evade you? what a joke
HermesDo 1 year ago
@JeetKuneDoKa : Bill Wallace was undefeated as a middleweight kickboxer, with 13 out of 23 wins by knockout, several of which came from kicks. He would probably not have been well equipped to face a skilled Thai fighter, given that he didn't have comparable shin conditioning, and only had one good leg (the right one is in a brace, that's why he does all the kicking with his left,) but his kicks definitely had knockout power. Think lead straight, not jab.
Desertopa 1 year ago
@JeetKuneDoKa, You talk from ignorance about Bill, he won the 1974 World Championships, when his opponent Bernd Grothe hit his left leg with a round kick to the hamstrings, Bill used the momentum to knock out Gernd with a hook kick, amazing control and skill, plus if he was allowed to use his Judo as well against a Thai boxer, Thai boxer would loose, and if you don't think I know what I'm talking about, I have had many champions in both Kick and Thai boxing.
sirupate 1 year ago
@JeetKuneDoKa, oh so wrong, Bill's winning kick in the 1974 World Champions, was when a kick hit his hamstring, and he used the momentum to knock the guy out with a hook kick, also what is to stop him using an underhook and right cross?
sirupate 1 year ago
Maybe I asked the wrong question. Does everyone think Bill's style would work as far as self-defense against some big fat bully with punching power concerned?
TheNinjaKickboxer 1 year ago

With all respect for both of them, I've seen Lewis in Amsterdam. But against a low kicks K1 fighter from today they don't stay to long, that's the power, speed and effect behind it! Hope to see a American fighter back in K1. They were great in the 70-80's.

Hypothetical question for you old school martial artists: Say there was a tournament with the following fighters, in the their prime, who would win in your opinion?
Bill Wallace
Joe Lewis
Benny Urquidez
Don The Dragon Wilson
Mike Stone
Chuck Norris
MrPomeroyWatson 1 year ago
In point fighting, it would be a toss-up between Norris and Wallace only if the rules favor more kicks and less sweeps. In kickboxing, it would be Don Wilson, who had the better oppositions and more fights than the others in the list.

Chuck is probably 10 years older but looks younger than wallace. Why's his hair greying at 45 or 46?

I think Wallace's well known eating habit might have contributed his gray hair. Wallace has been known for eating hamburgers and french fries as his primary food sources. For some unknown reason, the eating practice has worked well for him.

Bruce Lee film actor & trainer, not fighter!
sirupate 1 year ago
@sirupate you dont see pro fighters using any Kung Fu Style do you? but i would'nt go very far stating its limited. Sharlion Kung Fu has its students using their body the way the West can not image to use it.
Bruce lee and same goes for Norris got their names from being in Movies, but were Fighters but came to be knowing more for their Films.. Bruce Lee took up alot of Arts, and took what he need for himself. only American would State that Bruce lee would not Stand anychance with Lewis etc.
foleybarbarian 1 year ago
@foleybarbarian, Of course Wing Chun is limited, that is why Bruce Lee added to it! Chuck Norris made his name by being a professional Tournament World Champion, unlike Bruce, who never fought at top level, and Lee never sparred with any of those guys!
sirupate 1 year ago
@sirupate Chuck Norris a pro are you kidding me!! A pro at what KARATE KID POINT MATCH TOURNAMENTS please give me a break. Those fights from the 60's SUCK especially CHUCK NORRIS matches!!BRUCE at least fought REAL FIGHTS between 59-64 he was challenged numerous times by KARATE Experts wanting to shut his mouth and then being challenged and beating the best KUNG FU MAN in the bay area.Bruce fought for real.He didnt have time for CRAP KARATE KID matches where you cant slug a guy in the mouth!!
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago
@mannybrucesalvador, Lol, the best Kung Fu man in the bay area? who told you that, Bruce? lol Fact Lee did not spar or fight any top USA pro fighters, including Chuck Norris.

This was the fight that made him question his ART.You are right he never competed in KARATE KID MATCHES
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago
@mannybrucesalvador, just hype which you which to believe lol
sirupate 1 year ago
@sirupate because to him that wasn't real combat.Full contact fighting didnt exist here in the states till the mid 70's and BRUCE was DEAD.CHUCK NORRIS hates to admit it today because he is famous but he was a student of BRUCE LEE's and they did spar where CHUCK got schooled and he never did it again. He also said way back in the day that BRUCE would kick his ass but he has amnesia and wont ever admit to that now. There is a documentary called BRUCE LEE- The Intercepting Fist on YOUTUBE watch it
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago
@mannybrucesalvador, don't give me that crap, full contact had existed in Japan from the 60's, Thailand many moons before that, and in the states from 1970, Lee had plenty of opportunity!!
That is complete bollocks, Chuck Norris has never been quoted as saying that. You also seem to ignore the fact that Norris is the one that converted Lee into the potential in high kicking, but you don't see Norris using using any Bruce Lee stuff, do you? before Norris met Lee, he was already combining styles!
sirupate 1 year ago
@sirupate Just hype well tell that to the WONG JACK MAN in Oakland.Low grade Karate -ka Chinese & Japanese stuntmen in BANGKOK THAILAND yeah right you really think they had that kind of budget to bring stuntmen from HONG KONG NOPE they hired from right there on location.Chuck Norris was famous before he met BRUCE LEE REALLY NOW.He won his 1st belt in 68 and he was still unknown. That belt is meaningless like all those KARATE KID FIGHTS he had. Chuck wasnt a house hold name until he appeared in
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago
@sirupate Bruce Lee's movie. Bruce was old school he called himself a student master and in the old days the master's would challenge and be challenged hence the Karate Men in Seattle & WJM in Oakland.Their was no money, title or trophy just the prestige from winning.SORRY but JOE LEWIS himself said he and CHUCK NORRIS were his students but CHUCK is famous now and will never admit to that. You really need to do more research on BRUCE MATE.Why would a fighter like JL study under a guy he can beat
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago
@mannybrucesalvador, I have talked to Joe Lewis about mate lol, he said that they worked out together, yes he wanted to see what Bruce had to offer, and vice versa, but he found Lee's teaching contradictory, so he stopped working out with Lee, Joe Lewis is a gentleman, and a great Philosopher, and a real fighter, certainly Lee did teach him some stuff, and Lewis would always give credit were credit is due, a shame Lee didn't do the same!!!
sirupate 1 year ago
@sirupate I wouldn't would you?I mean this is MA I would expect for my teacher to be a BADASS more than me!!Well Chuck never had a REAL FIGHT at least JL was a boxer under CUS Damato the man who led MIKE TYSON to the HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE.CUS thought he could make JL a Champion during the ALI exile yrs 67-70 but JL decided to compete in the KARATE KID TOURNAMENTS.NO DUMMY HE.You dont get hit there.Yeah you gotta point Bruce didnt believe in kicking above the waist and CHUCK said a MA should be able
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago
@mannybrucesalvador, strange that in Bruce's book on self defence you see him doing round kicks to the head lol
sirupate 1 year ago
@sirupate to kick anywhere.Bruce agreed but CHUCK has never been in a REAL FIGHT where their are no RULES.BRUCE is the only one who fought real fights and you and I know if you fall to the ground for any reason you will probably get your ass kicked!!BRUCE knew the danger in kicking high in a REAL fight but CHUCK doesn't.Yeah Bruce had his chance and if he had lived in Japan or Thailand maybe he would have competed in the sport but not the CRAP here in the USA.Chuck had a chance & never tried.

@mannybrucesalvador; Chuck had retired in 1970, so no he didn't.

But NO WAY were talking about CHUCK here.Have you ever seen his match with SKIPPER MULLINS?Well if you never have you can see it here on YOUTUBE.This is a weak
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago 3
@sirupate exhibition like all those fights from that era but this fight shows how weak your hero was also.Chuck gets hit in the mouth by accident with a weak right hand and immediatly grabs his mouth everything stops to give him time to recover. The funny part about it he looked HURT!!SORRY MATE YOUR BOY HAD A GLASS JAW!!Bruce kicked anywhere to the body but wouldnt recommend it if you were not a good kicker and suggested to keep your kicks waist high.JOE shouldnt have been in the ring with BILL
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago 3
@sirupate for this match he outweighs him by 33lbs.This really should have been CHUCK fighting BILL but again NO WAY!! I heard that CHUCK QUIT after 30 seconds of SPARRING with BENNY the JET URQUIDEZ way back in the day!!SOME CHAMP.I tell you what if BRUCE knew his days were numbered he would have probably tried to call everyone he knew to say thank you its a shame that some of those friends now try to downplay and belittle his talent and contribution to the arts.Your two hero's CN & JL SUCK!!
mannybrucesalvador 1 year ago 5
@mannybrucesalvador hey, why don't you go find JL and tell that to his face, he's prolly about sixty years old now, maybe you can take him, if he ties one arm behind his back!
blugularis 11 months ago
@blugularis DUDE I think he is older than that and BILL kicked his ASS!!
mannybrucesalvador 11 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador That's because Bruce Lee was not a fighter. In fact, when he "trained" with those guys he wouldn't even spar with them at all. He was just trying to hype himself up and further his mystique among Kung Fu movie fanboys who knew nothing about fighting. These two legends, on the other hand, were actual fighters and champions. They actually DID what Bruce Lee could not do. To compare Bruce to THEM is disgusting.
Ljenkins9000 9 months ago
@Ljenkins9000 your joking right? Bruce was much deadlier with his hands than either one of these guys.Joe and Chuck Norris hate to admit it today especially Chuck but they both called him teacher at one time. They call it working out together now but they are lying.those of us who have been around for a while and have watched their careers no-better.
mannybrucesalvador 9 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador No, for both sentences. Even Davis Miller, author of Tao of Bruce Lee quoted unstantly 2 persons who could beat Bruce ( Lewis and Lebell ). Also credited him as Marial Artist and as having knowledge, but not as tested fighter. They didn't called him teacher, actually Bruce wanted to know them and ran to them, not vice-versa.According some sources ( Miller, Wall) they thaught Bruce to kick.
vaggoner 9 months ago
@vaggoner Sorry WRONG!! Joe Lewis himself called Bruce Lee one of his teachers he learned from over the yrs.Gene Labelle and Bruce were friends and never fought. They met on the set of the Green Hornet series where Gene was a stunt man.He recalls the time he grabbed Bruce and threw him over his shoulders and ran up and down a flight of stairs.Bruce was pissed he says but they never fought instead became friends and began working out together where Bruce began working on his grappling with Gene.
mannybrucesalvador 9 months ago
@vaggoner According to Gene he would put Bruce in a rear naked choke where he says Bruce would not Tap or Pass out. They would argue over whether Gene would release him if he bit him.Gene says he wouldnt but they never fought for real so the scenario never played itself out instead they worked out together and Gene says Bruce loved to wrestle and grapple.Personally I think Bruce was a deadlier Martial artist than Gene was.He had better hands which made him very dangerous in a real fight.
mannybrucesalvador 9 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador that was for sure an friendly applying of a rear naked choke from Lebell. If someone is put in a rnc (supposed to finish the fight) he woult tap out or will pass out.No matter is is Bruce, Fedor or Batman. Any living being needs to breath. There are cases with brawls when the attacker was under drugs and was able to fight with broken jaw and completely destroyed by strikes. And the other one solved the situation with a choke.

don't looks like too much, indeed, but neither Bruce 1967 full contact Sparring : watch?v=AVD1KQ2EVog

@mannybrucesalvador "Champions in what? Karate Kid tournaments"

Ljenkins9000 8 months ago

Ljenkins9000 8 months ago
@Ljenkins9000 You must think that I think Bruce could have put on gloves and step into the ring and go rounds with Joe.NO I DONT!! Bruce would get knocked out in the 1st rnd.I do believe Bruce's Kung Fu was better than Joe's Karate. In a real fight Joe would have been hurt because MA like Bruce work on their art daily waiting for real challenges.Thats how it was done in the old country and Bruce lived that way.Bruce met Joe and Chuck Norris in 68.By then he had been challenged to real fights

@mannybrucesalvador

@mannybrucesalvador
...and there is write as CN would have been scheduled for training at 14.30 pm. But in the note paper stay the date 19 January, Friday. So, how could Bruce train a man which he meet first 10 Months later? This does not sound like some false notice in order to upset this aspect for the future? I asked the video owner the same question, my post is still uploaded there.

@mannybrucesalvador
and once again...between JL and BL was the same and predictable scenario uke-nage, not a free sparring. If there would have been a sparring (no matter if then or with other occasions) and Bruce could have been better, there would have been tons of evidences and footage about (would have been one of the best possible proof on how great fighter Bruce was).As far that never existed, and Bruce never tried, resorting just at uke-nage scenario is a sign then Bruce knew something.
vaggoner 8 months ago
@vaggoner Yeah well like I said Joe first says he sucker punched me then later says no we were working on timing. But you are right Bruce knew something and I think Bruce's Kung Fu was superior to Joe's Karate.Joe challenged Bruce to a fight and Bruce accepted but they never fought. In a real fight Joe gets his leg broke. The date your asking for is probably a misprint because they met in New York.
mannybrucesalvador 8 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador

Ljenkins9000 8 months ago
@Ljenkins9000 Hey he sparred enough with some of his closer friends and trained like a mad man.Chuck Norris himself said No One in Ma trained harder than Bruce.LaBelle said he loved to wrestle and grapple.Dude the man ran 6 miles twice a day.Dan Inosanto said he and Bruce were talking about how good Joe Lewis was and Bruce remarked yeah I am going to teach him BUT I wont teach him how to beat me.The man was confident in what he could do.Thats why he worked with Lewis and Norris for over 2 yrs.
mannybrucesalvador 8 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador
...aren't the Bruce's invention.
After all story's told about him up that moment, there was a lot more to expect.Of course....
vaggoner 8 months ago
@vaggoner spent his whole career concentrating on ring work.Thats a different approach to the arts from what Bruce was doing.MA like Bruce Lee and William Cheung trained on a daily basis on how to literally destroy someone the fastest way possible.Kickboxers prepare for fights in a ring bound by rules. Both Lee and Cheung would never lace on gloves and face Lewis he would knock either one out.But in a real fight Bruce and Williams Kung Fu is deadlier than Joe's Karate.I choose to be the deadlier.
mannybrucesalvador 8 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador
...we can argue for and against, there could be written many text lines about that. But perhaps the most notable post there are those who ask "which of them is Bruce Lee?". So neutral people who don't know details about what's happen there are unable to make a clear difference of skills between the greatest ever and a man nowhere recognized and cited as great. What could you say them?
vaggoner 8 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador "Hey he sparred enough with some of his closer friends and trained like a mad man"
We don't have proof of this. We also have reason to doubt he ever sparred anybody.
Ljenkins9000 8 months ago
@Ljenkins9000 do some research on Bruce.Chuck Norris himself said no one in MA trained harder than LEE. believe it or not but their was a time when Chuck Norris would admit readily he could not beat BRUCE.Those days are long gone left in the 70's.
mannybrucesalvador 8 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador Bruce Lee may have trained hard, but he did not spar and he did not compete. He's the guy who was always afraid to get in the water at the pool and practices swimming on land, yet thinks he would beat Olympic swimmers as long as it's not in the pool where there are rules, but in the deadly ocean.
Ljenkins9000 8 months ago
@Ljenkins9000 Well put except he wasnt afraid to get in the ocean.Dan Inosanto recalled when he and Bruce met back in the mid 60's he had competed in a tournament and placed 2nd.He proudly showed Bruce his trophy and Bruce said pretty good but thats not real fighting.Dan argued so finally Bruce said ok come at me with your karate. So I did says Dan and found out right away he was right as I got my ASS Kicked.Bob Dylon the singer after a show in VEGAS said Bruce Lee kicked 2 of his bodyguards ass.
mannybrucesalvador 8 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador
...by Lebell (and it continues to be trained) they cancelled the scheduled event ( a fight between him and Royce). I don't know which is the true version (and perhaps they are very few who know), but would be no big wonder if Urquidez version would be true.
vaggoner 8 months ago
@vaggoner Yeah I doubt Boztepe is a skilled grappler also but someone like Gracie now he would be a challenge for Bennie.Too bad they never fought that would have been a great match.Gracie would be NO match for Bennie in the stand up but on the ground. That would be where he would like to take the fight no doubt.Bruce Lee said most fights end up on the ground so I would have to give the edge to Gracie but I would be cheering for BENNIE.
mannybrucesalvador 8 months ago
@mannybrucesalvador Yet two more accounts of street fights nobody else saw and again conveniently were not captured on film. I wonder why he was never arrested for going around and beating up all these guys. Maybe the cops knew their tazers and guns could not work on Bruce and were afraid.
