i have a fahaka living in a 200 gal ive kept him for 4yrs now and he feeds on mystery snails, mussels, crayfish, feeders(rarely) and if im too lazy to get him live food i feed him frozen scallops/prawns. i love him to bits and hes been with me for so long he can recognise me when i come by the tank! he starts swimming up and down lol hes the best!
hmoobxi0ng you don't really know what you're talking about, 120 is minimum to keep one of these happy and healthy, stunting a fish by putting it in a small tank with bad water quality is not at all good for the fish, if you don't have the space for one, don't get one.
its hard to raise one in an aquarium to get 18"+ and sometimes it does happens, but ocassionaly very hard, they need a super duper amount of swimming space like a POND. so a 120 is not needed...they can live in a 30-50 gal for years and years and stick around 10-12" with a much much slower growing rate :P
no they don't need a 120 gal for a freshwater puffer...thats probably one of the largest freshwater puffer (from what i know) and only need 30-40 gal to house a full grown adult of that species puffer by itself...50gal plus if u want more than one but best to keep by itself...its highly aggressive toward the same species
I wish i didn't sell my 120!! I had oscars. But now i don't know if i want a fahaka or another oscar. what would you do?? I'm leaning toward a fahaka to try something different though.
i would get me another puffer...but a 120. i go ahead find myself an african pike if you can afford it to feed live stuff. those things are real nice in colors :P
but i would take a puffer again if i was to choose between a puffer and an oscar...i use to have an oscar, they are hardy but too much eating :P well maybe same for puffer but its harder to take care of...
they should be alright, not too too hard...they are a hardy fish...i use tap water for mine, well all of mine fish =P i just let my filter do the chlorine cycling...make sure u get the dechlorinate bag thingy for ur filter to cycle out tap water so no need to add dechlorinate stuff and wait for 24 hrs, other then that, it should be all fine as long as u can afford to feed it, they have a bug appetite =P

not true...120 is for a preferable choice only...but you can house them in 30-40, mine lives in a 55...16½" and it has very dark and nice coloration...lives pretty happy to me, no signs of stress
my fahaka and mbu are my 2 prized puffers. I also started with figure 8's, then green spotted, then palembang puffer, and pig nose puffer, and target puffer, red eye, and snowflake puffer. I think that's all of them.
yes, I know. We have been selling our smaller tanks to make money for a 120g. We're going to eventually turn his 55g into a salt water tank. We had him in a 10g, then a 20g, now a 55g. We move him into bigger tanks as he grows

Hey do you know a Fahaka or a MBU Puffer would live well with an Eel. I have a Tire Track Eel and
I want to get a puffer. Respond if you know. It's strictly fresh water if that helps.

120gal is the MINIMUM you should be looking to house a fahaka, even then you will want to upgrade after 3 or 4 years
