Saw Bob Berg at Ronnie Scotts years ago, after the gig at about 3 am i chatted with him for a good 10 mins about his sound,mp,reeds etc.The guy had blown the house down with 3 sets and yet he still had time to talk,a interstellar player and a true gent.RIP Bob.
@TailsOfA Ever heared the sentence: The two most common mistakes made by young jazz-player are too many different ideas that tear a solo apart and not enough of playing out the full potential of an idea they have?
Listen to Coltranes Giant steps, many many repetitions without those you wouldnt even be able to identify whos solo that is, kenny garrett: his solos are meaningful and there are examples of solos with 3-4 main-ideas in a total of 10 minutes so dont judge him that superficially
Got to see bob play in Liverpool, if I had to guess around 2005, wow he performed 2 completely different sets the 1st was a technical display that blew me away, the 2nd half was a groove fest that was a joy to watch! despite my 23k BMW being key'd outside during the performance.....no regrets!!
@saxplayer59 indeed I do I live in south Manchester, I'm just happy I got to see Bob before he died, fuck the BMW it was a company car and got repaired in a week.
I was introduced to Bob Berg through "TIme Warp", which is now probably one of my top four fav albums...as much as i do like his own stuff, in my own personal opinion, Chick Corea wrote better songs for him than he did himself.
R.I.P. I hate that I never got to see him play live. One of the biggest influences on my playing. You should check out "Time Warp". It is my favorite album with Bob in it.
I´m so sorry man--i didn`t know that he`s passed away--a friend of mine told me yesterday that he`s died by an accident-I was very shocked about that--God bless him
Bob was amazing, and I feel truly blessed that I got to see him play several times. RIP Bob.

He was a powerful player with a great sound and great timing. However, in this video he keeps leaning on the same licks over and over again.

Had to have been earlier, Bob died back in 2002. His car got hit by a cement truck, sadly. So sad too... such an unbelievable player.

Yes, that's true. He died 5th December, 2002. His wife is my cousin and she survived, tho she was badly injured...

I have to say, Dennis Chambers and James Genus have to be one of the best rhythm sections of all time.

Berg was one of the gratests sax players.

He´s really a great player--but listen--today he`s only trying to play like Michael Brecker.
I loved his way of playing in his early days--Eastern Rebellion was such a great record--and at this times he had really an own style.
