My stepfather was there in the late 1950's and early 1960's. He used to help dig the graves for dead patients. When we visited him, we bowled and played ping pong and shot pool. He died there. I went to work there as my first State job and was an intake secretary. When I had to go to one floor (for the criminally insane) the keys to open the door were huge!
My grandmother...my father's mother...was committed here. She abandoned my father when he was 9. She committed suicide at Binghamton by ingesting cleaning fluid. 'Back then' they could not treat her after ingesting the poison. Took her 3 days to die. I just recently learned this as we dug through our family history. This video haunts us....it shows us rooms...halls...corridors...that she saw...in her addiction...in her madness....
has it been in any way proven to haunted, i mean i am in the area till like monday and wished to pay a visit because i had heard there are spirits that MAY be present there, but i havent been able to get much info on its paranormal history, and everyone i ask about it locally wont admit its haunted.
I remember the first time I saw this building. I was a college student at the time, in the summer of 1989, and I had just gotten a summer job at a radio station as an overnight engineer. Since I didn't have a car, I had to bike to the station at 11:00 P.M. It was pitch black. All of a sudden, I came across the state hosital, this massive, spooky gothic building. Up to this point, I had no idea that such a place existed in my college town.
My Mother used to work at the Binghamton Psychiatric Center from the early 1970's until she was forced into early retirement in 1989. I spent a lot of time at the Center, when I was not in school, and I eventually became a summer volunteer there while I was in High School (1982-1986). I volunteered in Garvin Hall (where the hard core wards was located), Broadmore Hall (where the non dangerous males were housed), the Main Building (The Castle) and the Rehab building.
I lived right on Riverview Ave-- about 7 houses down from this place. One halloween we walked around up there and found a scary cemetery with some unmarked graves. Also --been to that school on Bunn hill several times. (way scarier than the Psych Center)
@JennaTulls40 Hi, I'm trying to do a project on the old asylum for one of my college courses. Do you have any stories about anything unusual happening in or around the castle (including in the cemetery)? Anything that might be supernatural in someway would be appreciated! Thank you!
@BlackRoseOfWar I do! My Aunt was instatutionalized and died there. !st hospital to recognize alcoholism as a disease. they beat and tortured mentally ill people in the castle. If they died they threw the bodies into (sometimes) mass graves with nothing but a number etched into a rock. Someone told me the number represented how many bodies were in there, because many of the rocks have the same number.....
@JennaTulls40 Thank you for this story! It's the most helpful piece of information my group has so far! Do you know of anyone seeing any ghosts or feeling the presence of ghosts? Maybe something along those lines.
@BlackRoseOfWar the 4th floor is where the most violent criminals and sex offenders are kept -they cannot be rehabilitated and will never again see freedom--its pretty scary to stand outside looking up at them lookinmg back at you.
That halloween my friends and I stuck our way into the 'cemetery', we all got really neaseated when we found it and the smell was awful (but there may have been a dead deer near) To my knowledge there has NEVER been any reports of anything paranormal
Another scary place around here is this old schoolhouse way up Bunn Hill Road. It's like a one room school where the teacher went crazy and locked all the students in the closet before burning the building. Nearby theres a small graveyard with the graves of some of the sudents. If you live around here, check it out, its creepy.
My father worked for the NYS office of mental health and worked in the building up until 1993 when it close then moved across the street to the VA hosiptal. All I can remember was going to work with him sometimes with my brother and running all over that place on the weekend, especially the attic area and seeing all sorts of old equipment used to treat the patients.
My gf and I used to hang out in front of the Masonic temple we had always wanted to see the inside of that place. I heard somewhere on the outside I believe it says blessed be, or something like that? Very impressive looking building though. Definately wanna go inside the old state hospital the is prolly some fucked up energy in that place.
My favorite building in all of Binghamton. I want soooo bad to go inside and get pictures but have had NO luck in doing so. It sucks I want to get the images prior to the repairs that are going to happen.
oh holy shit nvm its the saw 2 theme haha oh and dude i live in binghamton and thers a place called the masonic temple thats all abandoned and its a creepy place if u want me to make a video of it and show u i will

yes I did the sets for the movie I was given a tour and showen the box of things removed from anuses ears and noses so we would know not to let our things out of sight and I saw the divet in the flore wear the man rubed his socked foot into the hardwood floor also thear was a natural halogram of a face in a glass window wear an old lady would stare out side with the sun on her face that was kinda creepy the box of things was gross knives chains pens pencels screwdrivers change.............
