  • Though I'm posting this late, I wanted to remind "kanbandu", which I guess is a short for of Kannada Bandhu, that Purandhara Dasa was not a Kannadiga or for that matter Oothukkadu Venkata Subbu Iyer was not a Tamil. They were all devotees of their chosen form of the "para- brahman". It was totally inconsequential what their tounge was. Atleast in music (which is without doubt Divine) don't bring in the rotten regionalism. Keep it to your demented and inferiority-complex filled and filthy brain.

  • Purandara dasa did not make any provisions for other songs. Purandara dasar's contribution to carnatic music is great but to some how saying that he is the only one who made carnatic music possible is just regional pride. Where will the music world be without Dikshithar, Thyagarajar, Swathi Thirunal, Mysore Maharaja, Vasudevachar etc. etc. Venkata mahi had a great part in this too. Ofcourse all the singers who continue the tradition are equally if not more important.

  • Ultimate one... I might had given half of my Rajya for this song to the gr8 Aruna Sairam...

  • It is nice to have some light songs even in serious concerts of Karnataka Music. Great that Sri Purandara Daasa when founded the Karnataka Music made provision for such songs and humor which demonstrated through own compositions. Attractive performance by the artist. In 50s Kannada dramatist Sr. Hirannaya had diligently adopted these kind of songs to stage dramas.

  • Beautiful folk song. I heard this Ms. Aruna Sairam singing this song in Karnataka Sangha music festivel on 04/01/2008. These songs attract younger children to carnatic music. I sang the first few lines of this song to my 7 year old song. I heard him murmer those lines during his sleep. Such was the impact. Hats off to Aruna Sairam.

  • Hi,

Even I was heard this song on 4 jan 08. By the way who is the author of this song? Can anyone say?

  • Oothukadu venkatasubbiyer

  • is this not thiagaraja aradhana? even if people ask for other composer's songs, why is she singing? can't she tell them that it is thyaga brahman's aradhana and it is only improper to sing compositions of other than thiagaraja?

  • I don't know if you've ever attended the aradhana, but if you have, you would know that the concerts don't need to ONLY consist of Tyagaraja songs - but the main pieces are customarily Tyagaraja compositions. Personally, I don't think 'improper' to sing kritis by other composers, but whatever - to each his own.

  • My daughters fav song...
