By the way: no, I've not dived with a sawfish. But I've dived with several species of rays and sharks along my life. Enough to have the knowledge not to call them "monster" and not to fish in a place where critically endangered animals live.

Why did they removed from the video the moment when the sawfish is released? Did they just cut the line and let the animal with the hook?

how is this an adaptation? why would they have to evolve this way to survive?

@joemcbobinite The 'saw' has many pore-like organs which can detect minute electric fields around small prey. That said, mutations may have given the initial pores then the fish evolved a longer rostral area to detect prey more accurately via natural selection. Eventually the area would reach a point where it would be injurious to be longer. So more mutations are likely to have developed the 'teeth' so now it can dismember fish instead. Just one idea, there are many ways it could have happened:)

People always assume I am male because I have a guy's name. lol Anyhow, I know it's all for fun, but if it is a rare find & catch as they say in the video, I still would have sent it to an aquarium or somewhere where it could be studied and enjoyed by tons of people while it lives out the rest of it's days. (Just don't know how they would get around that chainsaw looking nose tho'! Now we know why it's called a saw fish!) Lol. :-P

endangered fish..who cares about sawfish?? u want to kill these things off anwyays they eat every other kind of fish and are endangering many species....any person that knows anything knows sawfish should all be killed anytime u can kill one

@aotearoastyle An endangered fish species is not necessarily restricted or harmed in catch and release format, granted, i'm sure charters that cater to the sportfishing of specific species like that would have to be licensed to catch and release that particular species

I was actually fishing with this same captain a few years ago and he put me and my dad on a couple sawfish when we were looking for sharks. My dad still has the video of his fish, but Capt. Wilcox def. knows his stuff. Great experience, really cool to see this vid. up!
