I actually did a persuasive speech on why Filipinos like me should choose to learn Japanese instead of English. One of my main points is that the set of Japanese syllables (kana) is actually very close, if not a subset, of the set of Tagalog syllables (baybayin). This makes it easy for us to pronounce Japanese words. You on the other hand will have a harder time since Tagalog syllabry is larger. English syllabry is even bigger, so it's harder for both of us to speak English sans the accent.
