  • there is something about his hair and those opening chords that just works so well

  • Ce concert à été joué le 31 décembre 1988. Karajan avait 80 ans. Kissin en avait 17.

  • in one word - mighty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think this was in 1988 when he was 17.

  • its certainly molto maestoso.

  • Noticed the conductor instructing the orchestra to listen to the pianist... the two interact with great respect. Very cool.

  • wowww!!tchaikovsky is playing violin!!

  • @rojo840

maybe you're talking about Christian Stadelmann - leader of the second violins

  • Kissin is a piano giant, but compared to Lang Lang he looks like a spot in the horizon.

  • @Louxorios - cute. He was only a spot in the horizon here. But now, Lang Lang could not TOUCH Kissin. To each his own...

  • this is great! where is the second video?????

  • is this a little slow compared to argerich's

  • Magnifique...

  • аж дух захватывает

  • totally amazing!

  • I'm not a Tchaikovky fan at all, but maestro von Karajan was one of the greatest in my life time. The fact that 43 years after the ll-nd world war he was still investigated for his past is beyond the joke. For heavens sake he was a MUSICIAN, not a "Feldwebel or a Feldmarschall"!! Pure madness, when will this extortion ever end? May he rest in peace.

    Kissin is superb.

I know I know. Director Roman Polansky still can not come back to the US....after the fact how he lost his wife...which was tragic...... he cna not come back, not even to get an Oscar nomination or award...after some 35-40 years they are still trying to get him. My friend I was not saying that Maestro von Karajan had anything to do with that regime. I merely stated some facts from history.

  • Kissin = Music

  • @oitotheworld23

Oh yes he is. Big time. The best living pianist from who is alive today. His artistry and deliverance, virtuosity superceedes anyone else's in all those three qualities.

  • @TheBlissfulSpirit

    for sure

  • Herbert von Karajan conductor in 1988, Kissin is 17 years old, so this is 1988...so this is one of Karajan's last appearances before he died in 1989. This is in 1988 while here in the US Karajan was under investigation by the US Justice Department over allegations of involvement in Nazi persecution. The case against him was dropped when he died in 1989 a year after this was recorded. Strange world. But great musicians regardless.

  • He's playing at 17 years old with a Philharmonic Orchestra....Started at age 2 ...so in those

past 15 years he was still learning, studying ...Kissin is a true prodigy. As if he was an extension of that grand piano himself....Amazing....WOW.

  • BRAVO-BRAVISSIMO, GENIUS MAESTRO EVGENY KISSIN!!!! GIFT OF GOD, GOD BLESS YOU!!!!

  • such a masterpiece!

  • This is fucked. He's so young, but the piano is perfect. It's so easy to see how he hears the music in his head. Very expressive. I understand what he 'means'.

  • @983215ljhlkadbspig6y my thoughts exactly.... it's like he's either possessed or he's a 60 year old man full of crazy life experience trapped in a 17 year old body

  • q gran musico es un musico del ayer

  • Nicely done!

  • outstanding. who is the conductor

  • @jc2971 The conductor is Herbert von Karajan =)

  • I'm jealous.

  • oh my god. karajan and kissin? I can't believe this.

  • And similarly, conducted by a master leading a superb orchestra!

  • This brings tears to my eyes! So splendid, so magical. An unequaled performance save that of Cliburn surely!! And Evgeny being so young at the time! Sublime!

  • I'm a little confused. The conductor looks like Karajan and conducts like Karajan but it says this was performed by the London Festival Orchestra. I never knew Karajan lead the London Festival Orchestra,, Any help here?

  • @SpartanG600 It's Karajan, Kissin and the Berlin Philarmonic Orchestra, I recognize 2 of the peformers. Sorry if I'm wrong.

  • @edtskyline

    you are not wrong. :)

  • OH REALLY GREAT, I CRY IN THE FIRST NOTE WHEN I SEE THIS, GREAT PIANIST, GREAT ORCHESTRA, GREAT SOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    it's Tōru Yasunaga.

  • @alex21mitu

where do you know that from? ._.

  • @guismiti

    search for Berliner Philharmoniker

    you'll find their site, too.

  • This is Karajan about six months before his death :(

  • Perfeccion

  • how can somebody who appears to be 14 years old, play like a MASTER???

  • @waterbird91 He is the son of the god. He can do this.

  • @worras2007 So then anyone can do this?

  • @tjtheplay what do you mean? why people here are so dumb and cannot understand even a simple thing with an indirect sense? esp. those who listen to the classics.

  • @tjtheplay Any Catholic then..

  • @waterbird91 I think it has to do with God-given talent and hard practice.

  • @waterbird91 Kissin is a genius! That's how.

  • 16:51 <3

  • "How" to bow to taught to professionals, and he always does it perfectly.

  • Always incredible...

  • incredible young kissin and a brilliant karajan with an awesome berlin philharmonic orchestra (lets not only talk bout the piano :)

  • Inredible young Kissin! Love this performance, so powerful yet subtle.

  • @cheval63sg LOL: Inredible -> Incredible

  • chiudi gli occhi e sogna...lasciati trasportare...sulle ali della fantasia...+ dolce...

  • It's great performance . It's pleasure to look at his hands.

  • Tchaikovsky creates the most amazing stories, and Kissin the most amazing narrator.

  • Absolutely AWESOME!!! *****STARS ARTIST !!! Beautiful video & music. Love it :)))))

  • What could be added? This is the final version and basta! Breathless...

  • i think we can safely forget lang lang. In football terms, he's no more than a journeyman! Take the big buck, and convince millions of his chinese compatriots that he's a real western musician who can play bach, beethoven, liszt, brahms, schubert, and convince those poor parent-pushed tryers that they're Horowitz, Richter, Kempff, Curzon, Solomon, Rubinstein in the making! Does he relly think that his facial expressions while playing, can convince us that he's anything more than a charlatan?

  • Perfect performance!

  • he is the best pianist of his generation ... forget lang lang ...

  • @MikeriderTV Agreed!

  • @MikeriderTV i agree

  • @MikeriderTV -- You sir, are correct! Well said.

  • @MikeriderTV Even though I don't like Lang Lang, he's pretty talented as well.

  • @MikeriderTV

Dont forget that Valentina Lisitsa exists...

  • @MrUnforgiven066, and you are a total idiot.

  • @MrUnforgiven066

    you too :)

  • @MrUnforgiven066

    you are just jealous

  • @MikeriderTV forget your comment, how about that! asshole.

  • Happy birthday to Kissin on the 100-year birthday of Taiwan!

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVGENY KISSIN!!!!! 10/10/2011

  • Best playing,best filming,best orchestra,best regie.Best of bestes.

  • I love Evgeny Kissin's performance of this. omg I love this conductor too. 3:37 - 3:43 he looks like he's sleeping.

  • @ewyeep karajan probably could have conducted anything while sleeping

  • Fantastico ... Um dos Melhores que Já Presenciei !!!

  • @shunjinco2009 vc estava la?

  • Brahms at the violin just behind Evgeny!

  • Thank you Karajan, you are a God!

  • thanks for adding as a friend..you have nice videos too....

  • Hmm. I actually like that he's taking a conservative tempo. It makes it sound more showy and more like he's enjoying the beautiful melodies Tchaikovsky composed. This concerto still bores me, but that may just be my problem. Bravo to the young Kissin and the masterful Karajan for producing beautiful music!!

  • Kissin did a great service to Karajan in this beautiful performance. No wonder it brought tears to his eyes at the end of the performance. Two thumbs up.

  • Thank you for uploading this apokalipsa91. Evgeny Kissin is really amazing!

  • Thank you so very much for uploading this! You don't happen to have the 2nd and 3rd movements, too, do you? Kissin is my favorite. I admire and am inspired by him more than words can tell...
