WHEREAS: CCSF proudly and profoundly impacted the immediate and the future of a majority of its students and community by reaching to the past and respectfully placing a representation of the Aztek Calendar at its Mission Campus.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED: March 12th is recognized as the Mexika New Year at CCSF.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: that this day be observed and celebrated by CCSF, as a day of recognition of Indigenous Cultures beginning this year, March 12, 2010, 6am.
WHEREAS: March 12 is celebrated as MEXIKA NEW YEAR; based on the one date that is substantiated by both European and Mexika calendars, August 13, 1521.
WHEREAS: Based on careful observation and patient study, first nations adapted the cyclical renovation of the earth into their model of co-existence and governance.
WHEREAS: This calendar system, Olmek, Toltek, Maya, Aztek, is recognized by modern science to be the most precise system.
WHEREAS: The culmination of that study and experience came to rest on what is commonly known as the AZTEK CALENDAR, which now rests in the Museum of Anthropology and History in Mexico City...CONTINUE

WHEREAS: The ancient calendar systems of pre-America were established with the participation of thousands of Peoples and Nations across thousands of miles in this hemisphere and over thousands of years.
