there are performances with duos, pairs, some using weapons - they judge the technic and also the creativity. i´m not sure how much of freestyling is permited.

They "fought" in goreographed pairs so they decide wich pair is "coolest" and that pair wins. There is also a "series" where you do stuff alone and they decide wich one is best of that. :)

No, this is most definitely martial arts. It's called a duel. It's pretty much a choreographed fight. Trust me, that's very, very well done. I practice Wushu (style called Five Forms), and we do that occasionally. Not quite as acrobatic, but Ramin is famous for his acrobatics.

Elbow him in the ribs until he lets go. Jam hard enough there, and a rib's bound to break. There's a number of things that you could do in a position like that. The problem is that most of those things goes out the window when that happens because of the panic of someone choking you.

It looks like the replies got mixed up.. but disregard it. They don't have to spar in order to practice martial arts. You just need to focus on those keywords "martial art". It's an artform after all.

It's beautiful. This form is in motion and the artists take it seriously and have fun with it. I think that's good enough for this to earn respect.
