Well final mastering (the "grey+green" window you see in the video) is not Ardour, it's an external software called "Jammin", linked to Ardour out channels using Jack mixer :)

Well, I use:
- rosegarden (MIDI sequencer)
- hydrogen (drum sounds and pattern creator)
- ardour (mastering / mixing tool)
I think these 3 programs can be a good starting point :)

Well, u can try playing with PC keys, but I think it would be better to use a musical keyboard.
I mean:
- if you want to play "live" music and record it with PC, I think you need a music keyboard (also you need to be able to play it, indeed :p)
- if you want you can also make music just "writing" notation on PC software, so you dont need a musical keyboard
